Of course the beeb haven’t mentioned it yet since atmit, it isn’t in their interests to do so. I have no doubt though that the tellymediums who’s views are in tune with the Torygraph will be making a good ol’ song and dance about this.
Like you, I am very anti EU but I wouldn’t imagine it’s for the same reasons. What many people don’t understand is that Britain will never be a vainglorious superpower ever again and ‘proud Brits’ should just accept this and get on with their own lives. You’re not your country.
Since naval superiority is a sunken ship as it were, Britain is the bitch of every superstate going. Fact!
Hi everybody!
It has been a very long time since I’ve posted on here and boy the landscape has changed. I have too. Since the NH season is creeping upon us, I reckon I’ll start posting on here again. Thus, it would be nice to find out who’s new and who’s still here. Me first;-
I’m kotkijet, I’m funking awesome and there isn’t a person or scenario out there that can intimidate me. However, I want to make sure right now that my confidence is not misconstrued as arrogance because I don’t believe that I’m better than a single person on this planet. My many hobbies include hitchhiking around England, meeting as many people as possible, standing up to bullies, music (mostly metalcore, dubstep and classicle) comedy, studying history (I will eventually become the best history teacher in Britain) and watching sports. In particular, Horse Racing.
I have been watching this ‘sport’ since I was 9 years old and I’ve found it to be utterly awe-inspiring at the best of times and thoroughly repugnant during the bad times. As much as I love the sport, it has a distinct moral deficiency and has a million miles to go before it can be considered as ethically sound. My racing heroes include every single horse that’s ever stepped onto a racecourse and the following;-
Carl Llewellyn
A tough little toerag who enjoys shagging.A P McCoy
If God himself was a jockey, A P would still have him in a finish. He’s addicted to winning and if everybody had his attitude, humanity would be an incredible concept.Clement Freud
Anything I say about this man would be well worn and cliched. He was fantastic, he knew it, everybody knew it. Heaven is a blessed place.Politically speaking, I am a Conservative Libertarian Socialist. This essentially means that I’m an Anarchist who hates hippies who are too busy coming up with excuses not to make a positive contribution to society, to make a positive contribution to society.
That’s enough about me for now… Who are you?
I’m of the opinion that it’s more of a reflection of how uninspiring flat racing is given that Paco Boy is the only older horse worthy of debate.
Inches need to be filled and unforunately, this year there is only one older horse trained in Britain that can be recognised as a bona-fide top class horse. Beyond him, we’re looking towards a horse who hasn’t even graced our turf yet in the shape of Overdose. This notion is amplified by the fact that Bronze Cannon won what is usually an early benchmark of what to expect for the rest of the season.
The classic generation looks decidedly stale and if I’m honest, I regret not making the most of Ravens Pass and co whilst I could.
We’re stuck with a season which revolves around a 7f specialist and if that doesn’t float your boat then just sit it out, enjoy the odd Crystal Cappela type epic and wait for the Charlie Hall chase when you know the interesting stuff starts to happen.
This is absolutely gutting news which puts the whole meeting into perspective.
Whilst the Grand National is an important singular event, Exotic Dancer was one of those important regular events. One whoms consistant heroics as National Hunt’s bravest nearly horse keeps the public interested in horse racing. I have countless fond memories of this great animal as I’m sure everybody here does.
Rest in peace Exotic one.
To say that I dislike jumpers is totally wrong and you don’t know me at all.

I should add that racing is not alone in this trend of overrating – it is there in all sports I think.
OK. I shall replace the insinuation that you dislike jumpers with one that simply reads you know bugger all about jumpers. Denman absolutely beasted a group of chasers (such as Exotic Dancer, The Listener and Neptune Collonges (I’m not including Kauto Star because I don’t believe he’s a 26 furlonger)) who would have done the likes of Imperial Call, Mr Mulligan and War of Attrition by a good 14 lengths on their best days. He is a very good horse who’s deserving of all the praise he got and probably wont get from here on in due to a medical malfunction.
I agree that racing is not alone in the scam of overrating for all of life is guilty of the same (apart from giving a loved one a jolly good rodgering).
But for nepotism, JP would have had no choice but to give up riding a very long time ago.
Lammtara (retired after just 4 races, presumably using the old "nothing left to prove" argument ! )
Hawk Wing (a very in and out performer)
Galileo
DenmanLammtara – Never highly rated per say, largely because of his lack of races.
Hawk Wing – When he was in, he was very in.
Galileo – I can’t see how he’s overrated. He was nothing short of imperious over 12 furlongs. He lost his unbeaten record by the shortest of margins to the vastly underrated Fantastic Light before being found out on the dirt which is an entirely different sport. His stud record is already a good way for him to pass the test of time and New Approach seems to be doing his pa proud.
Denman – I just don’t think you like jumpers.
As for the black and white horses, you can only compare them with others from their time. The likes of Pele, Matthews, Moore, Puskas and Best would be laughed off the football pitch in todays game due to their relative lack of fitness and training. However, to say they’re overrated in a contemporary context is to display a shocking level of ignorance with a side of horrifying disrespect for history.
Could somebody check a horse called Corrador(?) who won a handicap chase there during the Summer of 94? I’m sure he was pretty useful.
Those apostrophes exonerate said courses from the official classification of gaff (apart from Hereford(it’s a personal thing)). I was simply wanting for a term for smaller course.
25. is Papillon. If you notice the picture, you’ll see that ”Bindaree” is being ridden by Steve McQueen. That’s just to throw you off though
28. is Energise. Piebald is a cow and cows don’t run in Grand Nationals (with the notable exception of Auntie Dot)They’re just about the only questions I’m willing to answer for anybody who sees fit to spend quality holidaying time on a tw@ farm.
Kotkijet returns!
A little premature?
If Tidal Bay gets the trip, he wins. But it takes a great leap of faith to be able to back him for a win at such a price so we’re best off looking for a place bet.
Ollie Magern
Doesn’t come into this race in great form but in a similar vein to Polar Gunner, he is pretty much invincible at Wetherby where he’s 3-4 (4-4 when taking weights into account). He’s set to get an easy lead since he’s the only front runner in the field and his last run on soft came over C&D when winning the Charlie Hall (albeit in 2005). He’s weighted to beat 11/2 shot State Of Play on their meeting 55 days ago and at 14/1, he represents obvious value. Not sure if this has been mentioned but the fact I can no longer get the site on my mobile phone is a real kick in the netheregions.
I feel like a neutral in this feud since this thread was posted before Mr Tyler made his release.
On the other hand
”He had recently been entered into two less taxing hurdle races – in which he failed to show any ability – before being confronted with the huge Grand National fences.”Mr Tyler failed to mention that McKelvey had confronted these dock-off fences quite well last year.
I think that a group similar to AA would serve a purpose if it focussed it’s lobbying against overproduction or a similar legitimate grievence pertaining to Horse Racing. Instead, they focus way too heavily on what they (wrongly) believe will win the hearts and minds of the masses.
Btw. Brilliant post Arazi!
That Tingle Creek was the definative race of that generation. (shame about the corny music in the video, Holty and the Sandown crowd alone provided the perfect soundtrack)
Although were it for fate, this race would have preceded many a Gold Cup win for Jair Du Cochet
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RMOyKjr … re=related
His last race is important to me as it was a poignently standout performance on it’s own but I don’t think there will ever be another horse who could gallop and jump so beautifully. In terms of class and aesthetics, Jair Du Cochet was one in a billion.
