Great to read such quality contributions on here. Reminds me why this is the ONLY racing forum worth being on. I have to say I completely agree with Ian about 1m4f no longer being the premier flat distance, certainly in terms of commercial appeal as a stallion . Look at poor old Golden Horn – I’m sure I read he will predominantly be a NH sire moving forward after struggling with his first couple of crops.

As Tonge said, it took breeders a little time to work out the right formula and I must admit I was really worried when crop 3 performed so poorly (the crop that would have been foaled BEFORE the first Frankel’s hit the track but AFTER the “he doesn’t stamp his stock” feedback). But last year was a game-changer and Jess Samy, who is the absolute authority on all things Frankel and is well worth a follow on Twitter, published his book of mares for 2022 the other day and it’s hard to see Frankel not being a dominant force now for years to come. Coolmore haven’t yet found a replacement for Galileo (unsurprisingly) though St Marks Basilica could well fill that void and Dubawi can surely only have a few more good years in him.

Jac – yes I hope to get to Newmarket again soon and I’ll be sure to reach out when I do. Always great to see you! Hope you are keeping well x

I did thanks Tonge. Hope you are well!

Yes – no shock to most that he is so successful. Certainly not to me. But there were plenty of doubters on here. Doubts about temperament and there was a lot of early talk about him not stamping his stock. As we know, in breeding success begets success. If those early crops had failed he wouldn’t be getting the books he’s getting now. Anyway, he’s established now and it will be interesting to see how close he gets to emulating his dad and grandad..

Hope everyone is well in the world of TRF!

No apologies for reviving this thread on the day Frankel sires his first Arc winner!! What a mare that Alpinista is and what a wonderful story with Sir Mark Prescott winning the race 52 years after taking out his licence!

Tears were shed at Chez Bacon (whilst the rest of the family looked on in bemusement – as usual) especially when they showed the clip of his lass, Annabel Willis, going mental in the final furlong. If you haven’t seen it, I promise it’s worth a boggle. People who don’t follow racing can’t possibly get what it means to those of us who love the sport and love those amazing animals.

Frankel might fall short of winning his second UK and Ireland Sires Championship in a row but he will obviously win in Europe once again and is now firmly ensconced as one of the world’s best sires. With the book of mares he covered in 2022 reading like a Who’s Who of great mares, there could be a lot more to come….

It was fantastic to see you again too Jac. You’re even lovelier and bubblier in the flesh than you are on here! Hi to everyone at TRF. Having a quiet season but enjoying the racing other than Inspiral yesterday. She ran really flat didn’t she. I’m sure that’s not her true running and hopefully she’ll be back to her best next time. The ground was nasty yesterday with real jar in it and I just don’t think she enjoyed herself. She was in trouble some way out..

By the way, if you fancy a laugh, I should be on The Opening Show this morning at 9.30am on ITV4. They interviewed me and the kids yesterday about what racing could be doing to encourage more people to the track.

Keep up the good work on DLAP’s and best of luck to everyone for the rest of the season.

Awful run wasn’t it Jac? Something must have been amiss. The “plan” was always to run her as a 4-year-old but yesterday might have put paid to that. Sorry you didn’t back an winners but it was a miserable day all round wasn’t it! I did like that Frankel 2-year-old winner though – he looks group class.

The big day today and such a shame about the weather. It’s likely to be bottomless as it’s been raining in Paris for almost 24 hours. I’m not even sure the meeting will go ahead. So it will come down to who will handle the conditions rather than who is the best horse. I was all over Adayar until the rain but I’m not sure he’ll be as effective on it as Hurricane Lane will be. HL seems to me to get lower to the ground and he looks to have the action more suited to extreme conditions. As long as he is over the St Leger he will go very close. I have done the forecast and have Adayar in my Ten To Follow team so will be happy with either result. Fingers crossed the meeting goes ahead and we get a race worthy of the line-up.

    £100 win Hurricane Lane – 7-2 – The Arc
    £50ew Sibila Spain – 6-1 – Longchamp 3.50
    £50win Suesa – 9-4 – Longchamp 4.25
    £3ew patent
    £15 rev f/c Hurricane Lane/Adayar

Hi Jac – sounds like we’ll be neighbours!! How cool!

Yes it doesn’t get any better than this weekend does it? Quality racing on both sides of the channel and so many exciting horses to look forward to. I’ll be hoping the rain has stayed away for Strad over in Paris and that he will run and win. I’ll wait to hear on that. In the meantime I’ve a couple of bets for today including Snow Lantern who (surely!) must get the race run to suit today..

    £25ew Swoon – 11-2 (4 places) Newmarket 1.45
    £100 win Snow Lantern – 3-1 – Newmarket 2.55
    £50 win Glen Shiel – 10-3 – Ascot 3.15
    £5 win patent

I had a wonderful time thanks Jac! So sorry not to be able to see you. Hope you have a great day today and that Sacred Bridge can do the business for you.

I was really impressed with Soft Whisper and she’ll definitely be one for you and your Meydan crew to follow this winter! Majestic Glory missed the break and then didn’t seem to handle the dip. She never really travelled and I think/hope we can chalk that one off. Benbatl was an absolute star as he always is but Master Of The Seas will improve a lot for the run and was probably a bit unlucky to be squeezed out by the winner coming out of the dip. He’ll still be a player in the QEII I reckon. All in all it was just amazing to be back at my favourite place in the world. Just before the Joel Stakes I got chatting to this couple by the pre-parade ring and told them my dream was to retire to Newmarket and buy a little house near the gallops. They told me that’s EXACTLY what they did a few years ago and they have never been happier. Watch this space….

My youngest has a birthday party this afternoon so will have to watch the racing on catch up tonight but just having a couple of bets on the Cambridgeshire. Even though Frankie has chosen the other one, I still like Uncle Bryn on this quick ground. And I’m giving one more chance to Fantastic Fox. It’s that maiden run behind Snow Lantern and Derab that I can’t get out of my head. Unless that was a complete fluke then he’s a 110 horse at least. It’s just he’s a big baby and doesn’t settle off slow gallops in small fields. He’ll get pace today and I reckon Andrea will cover him up and get him to settle. If he does, he could run a big race..

    £25ew Uncle Bryn – 9-1 – Newmarket 3.40
    £25ew Fantastic Fox – 20-1 – Newmarket 3.40

Not managing to find many winners right now but the good news is I’ve moved in to the Top 10 in the Tote Ten To Follow competition – https://tote.co.uk/ten-to-follow/play/leaderboard/overview – I doubt I’ll win it but I could finish top 5 if results go my way..

A great win for Hurricane Lane yesterday cementing Frankel’s place at the top of the Champion sire leaderboard and wasn’t that Irish Champion a great race? St Mark’s is some horse..

    A couple for today:

    £50 win Love – 5-4 – 2.20 Curragh
    £50 win Homeless Songs – 2-1 – Curragh 3.30
    £50 win double

In the end it didn’t matter that Novemba set a decent clip as they all ignored her. Sean needed to sit in behind rather than 6 lengths back. Saying that, she ran very flat and, you are right, they’ve made a complete pigs ear of her career. Richard junior still strikes me as naive..

A huge weekend of racing ahead but one bet for tomorrow.

    £50ew Find – 9-1 – Doncaster 1.40

I’m with you Jac. This horse needs a fast run mile on a galloping track and that is what she should get today. Novemba is likely to try and pinch it from the front and that should suit SL who can pick them up and show us all what she is really made of. Obviously the fav could be a superstar but he still has plenty to prove at the top level and is no price. So it’s Snow Lantern for me!

    £100 win Snow Lantern – 5-1 – Prix Moulin
