Agree with the Ginge that we are living in a golden era with two of the all time greats. Rather like when I was a piddling, vomiting bairn (ie up until age 14) when we had Johnny Francombe and my hero Jonjo.

For me Ruby and AP are so different. Agree that Ruby is an artist whereas AP is about strength in the saddle.

I would ask one question though. Has there ever been a jockey that has one more races from impossible positions on horses that had no right winning? That is what I will always remember about AP and why for me he just edges it.

I can only agree with what Roseblossom has just said.

Even though we’ve established that it has nothing to do with personality? (though I would have thought that was blindingly obvious given past recent winners).

If it WAS just based on personality surely there would only be one winner every year????? Mr W Rooney

No he’s right Fist – apparently AP also:

    1. Refuses to answer his door to Kids on Halloween night.

    2. Keeps all his money in a big box at the bottom of his garden and buys his kids a lump of coal for Christmas.

    3. Refuses to share his last Rollo with his wife.

    4. Walks around the local primary school at Christmas with a sign saying "Father Christmas Doesnt Exist"

    5. Burns off the legs of Daddy Longlegs with a magnifying glass.

A vote for him is a vote for Satan himself.

Great post Fist. May I add that I have worked with many of the top jocks and they always say that AP is their inspiration. And they all make the point of saying that its not just as a jockey but as a human being. They cannot speak highly enough of him. They dont call him AP, they call him the Champ.

A tacky form of vox pox that has been going since the 1950’s and has been won by some true legends whose attendance I assume means they didnt feel that it was in the least specious or tacky.

Still if it is beneath some on here, fair enough. David Suchet IS a fine Poirot! Enjoy!

cant honestly believe what I am reading on the RACING FORUM!! Of COURSE we must vote for AP. The man is a legend and will be remembered for eternity as one. Up there with Piggot and Sir Gordon.

ONEEYE you should be ashamed of yourself. Clearly not a racing man so why are you on this forum? Graeme McDowell??!! For winning one tournament? He didnt even win the money list? Mind boggling.

If those of us that follow racing wont vote for him he has absolutely no chance. Sad.

Get a grip of yourself son. McCoy for what… winning one race (the National)?

You obviously haven’t got a clue about sport if you think McDowell only won one tournament so I’ll forgive you for this pathetic reply to what I wrote.

Come back when you have some knowledge and I’ll give your posts the respect they might deserve.

You get some really pleasant people on this site dont you? Of course ONEEYE McCoy only won that one race. Silly of me. Whats he ever really done eh? Surprised he got nominated really.

I bet you have noone at home to moan to so you come on here. Pathetic little man.

I think Marginal Value has said it all. I will vote for him because he thoroughly deserves to win.

Have to say that I agree with most on here that it is a terrible shame that so much emphasis is now placed on those four days in March.

I was at Cheltenham on Saturday and it was a wonderful day but reading in Sunday’s post that a number of the horses won’t run again until mid March was pretty depressing actually. Whilst some trainers HAVE done it in the past it does seem to be an increasing trend.

I think it is down to a combination of all the reasons mentioned – partly prize money, partly cautionary, partly because one or two are probably best fresh (although if they ONLY ever run fresh how would we know?)

The solution? Perhaps more incentive during the intervening months. Qualifying races to ensure participation in March.

We all like to moan about the flat but they have half a dozen prestigious races during a season that are all worth winning. Not the case in NH clearly.

TJ as least your post was in English, I didn’t understand the previous ones.

Oh dear "as least your post was in English." Can anyone tell me what that means?

Shall we all just try and answer the questions. Didnt know I was back in English Literature class!

I agree. I liked him the first time I saw him when he was a fast finishing second to Dubai Prince and tried to get on for the Derby then but couldnt find a price. He won his next very comfortably and ran a cracker in the RP. He is a horse who will love more of a test – his dam won twice in G3 company over a mile and a half and he will almost certainly be aimed at the race.

As usual trainer will have several candidates and Recital and Roderic O Connor might end up higher in the pecking order but pleased to be on at 25’s and 14’s still not bad imo for a horse almost certain to run if fit.

Watched the 2010 flat review on Racing UK the other day and they were almost dismissive of Frankel’s chances of running in the Derby. I’m not so sure and think it depends entirely on how he winters and how he goes in his opening two races. If he hacks up in the Guineas there will be a lot of pressure on them to run him….
