I don’t see what the problem is with JM, he was number 6 greyhound caller in Melbourne before trekking to England.
Can someone please create a system for the poor man.
If form at Aintree = good + 5lbs
If winner of 3+ Grade ones = – 5lbs
If else = +/- 0lbsLord, that was knackering!!!

In recent years down under, this particular problem has been combated with the owners of the horse bred in the other country having to add an appendage to it’s name.
The most notable I can recall was a NZ 2 year old called McGinty who came and raced in Australia as Mr McGinty. He won about half a dozen group 1s in Australia. Went back to NZ and raced as McGinty again but was retired to stud for a few years in Australia and had to stand as Mr McGinty again.
Convoluted or what?
I think Jack only get’s to commentate the picnics at Hanging Rock and the barrier trials these days. Worth a listen though just to hear him say
"…und Muster Bluster whups thum un…"
I love the horse, and was pleased as punch when he won his second stayers title last year.
I still feel aggrieved that Fundamentalist (who has underachieved phenominally) beat him in the R&SA hurdle a few years ago. I lost a lot of money that day….
He’s more than made it back however.
Cheeky LGR, though I do tend to agree with you about that.
That is gold. There is another Aussie commentator called Jack Styring who has a remarkable ability to commentate all races like that. In fairness to old Jack, he’s about 250 not out.
It’s commonly thought that even when a horse runs first time out it’s fresh and feels good and loose and runs well, then second up the horse is stiff, sore and just doesn’t stretch out the same way. I get it when I go for my second jog after a few weeks off. Seems perfectly rational really.
I don’t think Well Chief got much chance to bounce at Chelt last March since he fell at the second. Having said that, he probably bounced at Aintree instead.
I’d agree it exists. Seems to occur when run 1 and 2 back from injury are close together. Would love to see some stats though.
Hi all, this is my first post and so I’ll try and be interesting….
I think having watched Noland jump today I’d relate it in terms of quality of race to that which Well Chief won at his only (I believe) chase start before the Arkle. Well Chief made two howlers that day and wasn’t considered to be a good bet in the Arkle due to his lack of experience.
Noland on the other hand jumped like a stag, and with his propensity to not tank in his races might mean he’ll make a better Sun Alliance horse. I’d reckon he’ll run in the Arkle, and be coming into it by the second last and be very very hard to hold out.
