I can’t find the words or begin to take this awfully sad news in. Such a tragedy. Condolences to you, LRM and all the family.

I very much hope that his hard work will be continued and this forum will be allowed to grow as he envisaged.

R.I.P. Daylight – you will be sorely missed by us all. And thank you.

    Absolutly terrible news.

You never know what’s around the corner in Racing, be it good, bad, or devastating.

What a horse – all our thoughts should be with all connections, especially Hen, Terry & Jim – thanks for all the memories.

    :( RIP.

For about the fifth time over the past year or so, I will defend the CrossCountry Chase on here…

I love it, I think it provides variety and its soemthing different that both we and the horses can enjoy. And yes, if the Festival were to be lengthened to 4 days, then add a CrossCountry Chase as the feature race. Why not? Yes it may be a logistical nightmare getting crowds to the middle of the course on festival days, but its a great spectacle. The Sporting Index Chase was another classic race, and it generated a great finish up the hill (as usual) with some chunky prices. (Just unforunate Galapiat Du Mesnil wasn’t there, thats where my money was)

I don’t think that racing as a collective whole is ‘bent’ – however common sense and intellegance will tell you that there is a small number of people who do cheat the system. Individuals who are bent do not mean that the entire industry should be branded in the same way!

Yes, it’ll create some unneeded bad publicity for racing, and will put some people in some serious trouble. I think to be fair on the BBC, investigative programmes such as this are independant of any other shows, BBC Sport is a body apart from all of this. Investigative programmes exist on many topics, all types of sport and on poilitics and issues such as the railways.

It’s going to cause a few problems, this programme, though…

The official story from Channel 4 was that GG requested to be given a less conspicuous role – he backed down from the no.1 post himself, rather than being pushed

Another classic Goode-ism: "And he’s shovelling the coal on that one…"

Simon Holt comes out tops. J A McGrath is either really good or really crap – he has his off days. Cattermole is impressive too, very professional and with a searching eye he does a good job.

Brilliant to see Hors La Loi win, a really worthy victory, sadly overshadowed. Hors La Loi always seems to motor well at Cheltenham, and after finishing second to Istabraq last time was the deserved winner today in my book.

Sad to see Istabraq pull up so early in the race, presumably into retirement now – but it was a remarkable effort to get the horse to Cheltenham in the first place for the fifth year. All I have to say to the matter is that Foot and Mouth took what would have been a very exciting race from us.

Valramix and Tony McCoy were very unlucky – very sad news, especially after the tragic fall of up and coming novice Gloria Victis in the Gold Cup two years ago now.

On a brighter note, I’m travelling down south tomorrow for a full day’s racing, where I fully expect to see Flagship Uberalles show Edredon Bleu what’s what in the Queen Mum.

I must say that I am in favour of foxhunting and its related activities being removed once and for all from use by society – but I think that this new bill stopping it only in Scotland is a waste of time. It’s a legislative nightmare – how do you patrol and police what happens on one side of the border and what happens on the other side? Too many loopholes, too many opportunities for people to get away with it. There’ll be a few interesting cases about this in the news in future months and years, I’m sure.

I think that Istabraq will run at Cheltenham, and I hope he does win. Definatly agree with Esc – if the horse isn’t fit and able for this year’s race, then its time to wrap up a very successful career. It would be nice to go out on a high – fingers crossed. I think that Isty stands an almighty chance in the CH this year, so long as he gets there.

What I like most about Cheltenham is that every race is very much full of class. If you had to pin me down though, it would have to be the Queen Mother and the Champion Hurdle (and the Gold Cup!) Unoriginal I know, but they truly are the best races. And, as I keep saying, if they threw in a crosscountry race too, then all the better….

Well done to Lisa for trawling through all our questions, the replies were very informative. I agree, Lisa does seem to have a good "business brain", and she had some encouraging responses there. The coming 12 months or so will see how far Newmarket really can progress.

Thanks to Daylight and Sal for their work. :armbounce:
