To be fair, Janiak said it himself, after the HK incident to the press that he would continue to use what he tested +ve for…

"It is a recovery treatment that I give the horse all the time," he said at Sha Tin moments after Takeover Target was sensationally scratched by order of stewards from the Hong Kong Sprint."

"And there has never ever been a worry before. It is widely used and recommended by vets in Australia. It normally takes five days to get out of the system. I’ll use it again, for sure."

Mint Lane and Icabad Crane were heads apart in the Tesio. Casino Drive bts Mint Lane by 6 in the Peter Pan, Big Brown bts Icabad Crane 6 in the Preakness. Both unextended. Casino Drive bts Golden Spikes 10 in the Peter Pan, Big Brown has 16 on Golden Spikes on a line thro Recaturetheglory. These lines show the Japanese horse with the Belmont breeding is right in the ball park and as yet unextended, like no one save Big Brown. For me, this is no stroll, he’ll have to put out this time.

I was very sad to hear Absolute Champion broke down and was euthanised. The way he blew away the 2006 HK Sprint field was awesome, and awesome is a word I hate using.

He had Da Hoss came up positive for boldenone (equipoise) in a pre race test in Hong Kong a dozen years ago in december after he had won the the Breeders Cup.

The problem with Spencer is that he’s not really very adaptable is he? He’s not a jockey that you’d have much faith in to ride from the front or give a prominant ride.

Nor has he the brains to know that you cant ride like that everywhere, which is why he is (literally) 0% at Brighton, the worst hold up track in the country.

The median result of a spread NH match is F,P or U. Median of a turf flat match 1L. Little factoid from the remake of the movie White men and horses cant jump.

UAE 2,000 Guineas – I don’t want to go past Etched and regardless of my selection, I hope he wins and smashes them. I’m leaning to Honour Devil with the runs on the board, however he gives 4kg to Etched.

Isn’t 4kg a bit on the paltry side for WFA. Do 4yo have a better than expected record in these races?

Track Betting Agency, I think. Used to advertise in the Handicap Book years ago.

Betbrokers do similar online, claim to get you best price, want 3% of stake, or if odds on 3% of winnings.

Thats them, any idea what happened to them?

Almost certain they folded several years ago. I’d guess the internet played a part. You’d know better than me but basically TBA were commission agents. Nowadays with the price comparison sites and exchanges you can find the best deal more easily for yourself. But as I say above betbrokers.com exists online if you want to pay for a middle man.

Just to say that a high priest and legend of value betting Allan Woods died at the weekend. Woods won well over $500 million on the Hong Kong tote since he started back in 1984 with Bill Benter.

    Clivex,

Santa Anita is not an a/w track, it’s a dirt track :D

    Mike

It actually nearly was dirt again. They were going for a waiver from the CHRB to lift the Cushion Track and put dirt back down. Now they seem to have changed their mind and are going to mix in the Australian Pro-Ride polymer binders in the hope this will stave off their drainage woes.

Trainers now need to tell the public if there was a valid reason for a horse running poorly on its last start. To stop punters from being “put awayâ€

10lb claimers with 5 rides in 3 years are going to give you these rides and worse. I’d say the fine was harsh.

McCoy let Doumen’s Khazar walk in today at Folkstone for 11th, costing fixed odds and spread match bettors a loss by a neck to the 10th placed horse, when simply pushed with hands it’d’ve been a comfy 20L. Nothing mentioned or expected about obtaining the best placing there.

Some rule may be applied here and there, now and then at this or that whim, but essentially you are own your own and you learn to live with the slings and arrows.

Anyone know who selects the matches. There’s too many the same for them all to be independently picked in house by each firm. eg Spin and Betfair are virtually identical.

Granted I’ve not been looking too hard, truth be told not at all, but I’ve seen no explanation as to why the BF SP is not pool betting and therefore a tad illegal. I’ve heard they’ve had internal and external lawyers all over it but I’ve not heard why they think it’s fine.

There was just such an example last week, when the Life & Post comments were entirely contradictory about two horses who had pulled up. The vid gave a hint at what happened but neither was seen actually pulling up. The bookmaker pdecided to pay out on both as winners, as a goodwill gesture.
