    Latest odds just in:-

Paddy Power to possess one molecule of class:-

    1000/1

No market for Cheltenham deaths? Or just knowing what side the bread is buttered.

Why don’t we just have a betting market…

…on the Michael Jackson child sexual molestation trial? Sorry, but they did that already. Pinnacle, Gamebookers, Bodog, Tradesports etc along with the Brits. News stories were running with oddslines at the foot. Remember the outcry? No? Twitter probably came later then.

I’ve seen plenty in expressing their moral outrage expose themselves as unfit jurors.

By not sharing the same opinion as you I suppose?

    What opinion might that be?

You’d be better off reading what’s on the lines rather than what you think is between them.

    Ditto Indocine, Ditto.

    OK ditto.

I don’t know their motive, I only wish it was to expose the hypocrites who are dissing PP but will be eagerly discussing chances of guilt or innocence over their cornflakes worldwide for weeks to come. Dipping your hand in your pocket for a novelty bet does not mark you out as much different. This is a media circus on a grand scale which people worldwide will gorge upon for weeks on end. PP is a symptom of it, a small sideshow for hypocrites to point at, to make them feel superior. Genuine faux indignation is what it is. 2p.

It is imo wrong to televise this case.

In my experience Indocine, people who do the wrong thing often call others "hypocrites", so they can justify their actions and feel superior.

    It probably is.

Not that I can blame him: bookies’ aren’t public conveniences.

You might just be cashing in some pissing points on past bets though.

Since the cash strapped councils shut all the public conveniences, bookies seem to have taken on that service too.

Don’t go into my girlfriend’s shop, then. No bet? No pee.

Holy pineapple chunks! Almost sounds like an Andy Hornby edict.

A soft seat in a warm empty room with a free coffee and a gander at the RPost is your compen. Since the cash strapped councils shut all the public conveniences, bookies seem to have taken on that service too.

    wit,

What would Hong Kong figures do to that argument?

It’s not as simple as turnover generated by the number of fixtures – many other factors must affect the decisions punters make, not least the culture of the country.

A real life example of downsizing. Italy has lost 50% of it’s races these past 8 years along with 66% of it’s betting turnover.

But which was the cause and which the effect?

Who cares really? (Though as an aside, I’ve heard it said many times that betting is a product that holds up well in a recession.

I’m just making a point about handing these self interested parties a meat cleaver to the racing calendar. (And I’m not saying an Italy would happen.)

    That’s without even mentioning jobs.

Sheer volume of racing and pointless majority of racing killing interest.

USA has 10 times our number of races inc trotting
FR has twice as many in trotting
JP twice as many with no trotting
AUS 3.5 times as many inc trots
CAN 2.5 times as many inc trots

Low grade meetings aren’t all broadcast/covered nationally in those countries like they are here. Most of the races you’ve counted would be comparable to point-to-points here in terms of the coverage they get.

They run for a purse which is an indicator of interest.

    Same as usual, polytrack.

    Who is "polytrack"?

The racing surface at Kempton, Lingfield & Wolverhampton.

Though he may disguise it on occasion, most of his schtick centres around his own self interest, which is fine, but I find him a little tiresome. He could get in a moan about short fields if he wrote a piece on the Ukraine. Most would disagree with me, so I’m probably wrong.
