Quite an entertaining read –

February 25, 2014 at 20:42 #469205I’ve been reading Geoffs work for sometime now and he’s in the Alastair Down mould of telling it like it is….Without the War analogies.
February 25, 2014 at 22:03 #469227It’s all good nostalgic stuff but I don’t really get what solution he is proposing to exchange betting. He seems to think he is a good chap for offering to lay big amounts to unshrewd punters at worse than exchange odds.
February 26, 2014 at 10:31 #469273One of the best blogs around. His Alan Lee piece was excellent and spot on imo.
We could do with more people like him in the racing media.
February 26, 2014 at 11:07 #469280Though he may disguise it on occasion, most of his schtick centres around his own self interest, which is fine, but I find him a little tiresome. He could get in a moan about short fields if he wrote a piece on the Ukraine. Most would disagree with me, so I’m probably wrong.
February 26, 2014 at 11:28 #469284"Take for instance one firm who last year offered their first 10000 customers even money Sprinter Sacre for £10. Punters are bamboozled by such deals, forgetting they’re walking round the corner to save themselves 6 quid (if it wins!) – subjected to a lifetime of invasive e- mails and texts"
As I remember, it was available for up to £20 not £10. Got it online, didn’t have to put myself out. Who the hell was "bamboozled" by it? The offer was Sprinter Sacre at Evens for the Champion Chase. How hard is that to understand?!
Never had a single email or text from any bookmaking firm since. Can’t even remember who did the offer (Coral?).
Not everything off-course bookmakers do is evil, Geoff. Sometimes a good offer might be just a good offer.

It was Coral and it was £20. Arguably one of the best offers I can remember.
Why let facts get in the way of a good rant?
