In situations like that I think most jockeys have their heads down in a drive finish.
Why would you look up its not as if there was another fence to be jumped.
Timmy Murphy’s first ride for Henrietta for a few seasons. Hope its not the last after this fiasco!!!!

Great to see and what a good ride.
It never ceases to amaze me how little Timmy Murphy is used by other trainers. When it comes to settling a horse and getting one to jump I don’t think there is any better.
Probably behind McCoy and Walsh but much underused in my opinion but let’s not forget the horse and trainer who got him there spot on for the day.

Another quality ride from Timmy in the Paddy Power yesterday. What are the chances of him getting some top rides for Paul Nicholls if Ruby continues to stay at home?

Probably nil with Daryl Jacob very much 2nd jockey now and others already attached to the stable.
He really is an underused talent in my opinion but if you are only getting a handful of rides a week then I guess he will pick up the occasional spare rides but the days of him riding anywhere near a 100 winners a season are gone.
I don’t know what he has to do to get more mounts. He rode one for Barnie Curley at Ascot a couple of seasons ago and gave it a peach of a ride and when Barney was interviewed afterwards he was eulogizing over the ride. As far as I know he hasn’t ridden for him since. Perhaps his face doesn’t fit anymore but bad jockey’s don’t ride over a 1000 winners do they?

A very special day and a very special ride from Timmy Murphy. I read that he was contemplating retirement because of lack of rides this season but with this success has decided to go on for one more year.
I am pleased that he has because he is a good horseman and deserves better than he is currently getting. I am never quite sure if the Johnson/Pipe/Murphy relationship is harmonious because it is obvious that Pipe only uses him when he has too which too me is a bit like having a Mercedes in the garage but continuing to drive the Trabant but there you go.
Very pleased as well for David Johnson who I have never met but if he is half as nice a guy as he is when interviewed then he deserves all the success that comes his way.

Of all the races before and since I have never wanted a horse to win so much as Crisp that day.
As much as Red Rum was a fantastic horse around Aintree I believe that if Crisp had held on he would have become the Aintree legend.
It’s heartbreaking to watch him on that long run in.

I think it’s great for racing that a relatively small yard like the Tizzard’s can have a potential champion. I sincerely wish he goes right to the top and stays in the yard.
As for Joe, I am told he is one of the most liked jocks in the weighing room and with all the knock backs he’s had over the seasons I for one will be cheering him home in March which ever race he goes for.

In a driving finish I would rather be on the stronger horse than the stronger jockey, 1 ton of animal how effective is a 9st man really…

Quite but that wasn’t your original question.
Also are you trying to say that if two identical horses in terms of ability are ridden by Celia Ponsonby Smyth and AP.McCoy respectively that the horse ridden by AP wouldn’t win. I think you will find that a jockey is very effective.
You could also ask Drill Sergeant if he thought AP was effective.

I have never known a stable use such a plethora of different jockeys.
It would seem that the glory days may be behind them now and that would be a shame but nothing would surprise me regarding this stable but as someone mentioned with no new horses from David Johnson it seems the quality is disappearing from the yard.
Always felt slightly sorry for Timmy Murphy because he is generally a very sympathetic jockey and this just didn’t fit the ethos of the stable. With Pipe senior always hankering for AP (who can blame him) it was only a matter of time before Murphy’s tenure would come to an end. Pipe has had a few Johnson runners this season and I don’t think Murphy has ridden any of them.

The reason I don’t back horses (regularly) anymore is because I got bored.
I do bet at the big meetings but ploughing through the form BOOK day in day out of mediocre horses racing for mediocre prize money finished me.
I am afraid its the old chesnut of far too much racing and I just packed it in.
I wonder how many more like me because on the odd occassion I do go in a betting shop it’s like a morgue.

There are more Johnson runners this weekend without T.J.Murphy on board.
I sense that although nothing reported in the press the end is nigh for this relationship.

A very under used jockey in my opinion.
Bad jockeys don’t ride over a 1000 winners.
Thought his effort on Ashkazar was even better than Overturn.

A few seasons ago Michael Dods had a sprinter called Mungo Park.
A horse that had to be buried away in a sprint but had a turn of foot so had to be produced on the line to win.
This horse would scythe through them only to be baulked or just not get there in time.
He cost me a fortune but he won once or twice but even though he was a professional loser I was extremely sad when he retired (I think he was 9). I think the love affair would have carried on if he was still running.

I learnt my lesson never fall in love with hold up horses in sprints.

I always think that horses with classic aspirations should be named as such.Pinturischio, Nijinsky, Crepello are such names that spring to mind however Benny The Dip broke the mould somehow.
For strange or frivolous names Noble Lochs stills brings a smile to the face.
