Didn’t look too bad when he was pulled up. Moved quite normal I thought, so I was a bit surprised to read this today.
RIP to himVery bad fall and the outcome was quite obvious from the very beginning. Apparently not very popular with the racecourse commentator since no mention at all and a lot of excitement in his voice throughout the race.
Rest in Peace Benevolent
That is very sad. I had a few quid on her EW and saw the jockey just easing her with about three quarters of a mile to travel. The horse seemed in no trouble. Malcolm Tomlinson just mentioned her unseating the jockey with half a mile to go.
Rest in Peace Best Of CompanyIt looked horrible and the Racing Post didn’t mention this with a single word as far as I know. He stumbled into another horse and fell afterwards. The very next horse kicked him in the head and crushed his skull which killed him instantly. That is the reason why he lay motionless on the side with one leg up in the air.
The very shrewd Mullins crew should consider themselves very lucky to have taken home Thousand Stars who trailed in last. Not only that the course is simply unsuitable for many horses, but how do you get a horse from Ireland to Merano anyway?
Can you fly it straight away to Merano? As far as I know you would have to get to Milano first and then take the journey by car. Anyway not the ideal course to approach, especially not from Ireland.
The two days surely weren’t that much fun, but as I’ve said happily they took back one horse healthy and sound.“A few days ago, I was chatting to a regular in my local betting office and he couldn’t quite understand why I backed two horses in the same race. His theory was that only one horse will win and the rest of your stake money is lost (which could go on other horses in other races). I mentioned that if I change my mind, the other horse that I fancy might win as well as looking for value odds that may save my stakes if one of them wins. It Turned out that one of my horses won at Wolverhampton (China Excels 1st at 10/1 (part of a Lucky 15) and the other, Saffire Song (£3 straight win) finished 5th at 13/2). Although the tiny profit I made wasn’t gonna get me an early retirement, at least the bookmaker didn’t win!”
If you back a horse at – let’s say 2/1 – why shouldn’t back 3 horses at 14/1 each of them?
It’s just a return on investment thing and having a bit of fun.
Maybe your bookie should also ask the owners why they run their horses in race, since there can be only one winner.Really unbelievable. Two brothers train two different horses. One falls and brings the other one down and both suffer stupid injuries,
RIP to both of them and also to the commentator who rests his voice about such incidents. For how many decades has he been doing the commentating? Still doesn’t know or doesn’t want to deal with that (bad injuries). While I can accept the usual bumping in a race, I felt that this kind of interference was quite severe. Plus it cost Free Eagle 2nd place. It occurred pretty late in the race and therefore the chance for the bumped horse to recover is quite slim.
That is my point and I’m not mentioning Gosdens post-race comment that they only had Found to beat. This is for intelligent conversation… Anyone who calls the Melbourne Cup a bumper is obviously socially impaired…Geez you would have thought Yeats would have won a bumper or quite a few other quality horses that tried but failed…
Rite of Passage: 3rd in the Festival bumper – won a Ascot Gold Cup.
What is wrong if you call a 2m race a bumper? There is a lot of bumping going on. So no need to correct me
Wow! Thanks for the great news!!! Never thought he had a chance after that kind of fall. But this shows you what is possible, especially when the horse is in the right hands. Owners, vets, staff and so on.
We didn’t forget him, but I guess Australian Racing is not necessarly a priority over here.
Please don’t forget that European trainers have won this BUMPER three times in the last five years. And by the way, who cares so much about British trainers? They are not the most important ones in the world!!!Rest in Peace Bart Cummings and hats off to your long career and successes!
What a wise decision!!!!
Well done to the Fly, Ruby, Willie and his team!!!
A happy retirement and only positive news please!Enjoy every single day of it Fly!
From the Irish Examiner two days ago:
“The featured Treacy’s Pharmacy Chase attracted three Gigginstown-owned runners. Victory went to the Bryan Cooper-ridden favourite Savello, but the Charles Byrnes-trained Arnaud had to be put down, having broken his leg when slipping up after jumping the third fence.”
But who is fined more for schooling in public? The jockey or the trainer
Very sad, but what a nice age to reach!
Rest in Peace Sir Peter
It was the shoulder to be more precise. But it makes no difference I guess
Just too incredible to believe. Very sad news and what a pity that Clifford Baker didn’t get to keep him.
Such a nice man who made him what he was, of course along with Nichols and Ruby. But as I said before, I’m just too speechless to say anything.
Rest in Peace Kauto SUPER Star!!!You are right about the injury BG
