not impressed by Finian’s jumping today. Been on Medermit at 14s and still confident.
Well spotted Fist, must admit his act has improved immensely

bring them over Ginger, the posts are genuine…
February 6, 2011 at 23:27 in reply to: NH Season 2010/11 – can it get any more depressing?!! #339305Diamond Harry and Imperial Commander, one early run followed by a 4 month break, come on, that’s way too much.
Not much they can do with the weather disrupted year, It’s been frustrating more than depressing, though it is depressing when it’s frustrating.
Cheltenham is brilliant, it’s my Christmas and summer holidays rolled into one, nothing wrong with the intense focus, my only gripe would be to level out the good quality races over the whole weekend, too many overly busy Saturdays followed by a quiet Sunday.
Weather is drizzly here at the moment and pretty much the same forecast for Musselburgh up to the start of racing and through the afternoon. Ground will probably veer towards soft.
Rob
I drove through a seemingly endless rainstorm but thankfully by the time we arrived in Musselburgh it had calmed down to a light drizzle.
On arrival at the course around 1245 it became apparent that the "Thommo" show was going to be a recurring issue today.
"Back Skint and you won’t be… ho, ho, ho". "Divers, it’s always going down, ho, ho, ho,…". "Santa’s son, I didn’t know he had any kids, ho, ho, ho,…".
Trying to block out the inane ramblings of TV’s Top Man </depressedsigh>, I didn’t back anything in the first, I thought the odds on fav and 2nd fav were stuck on to come home in order, so I went for Santa’s Son (on my 4 yr old’s recommendation) and my own choice Pokfulham (on the basis of his soft ground form). Wish I’d done a forecast
, but a tidy 3 figure sum to pay for the day after on race 2.I was always going to have a tenner e/w on all 3 of James Ewart’s horses, Vosges bravely fought back to get up at 7s in the third race (I can be seen at the winning line with my red hat on, and a 4 y/o in a green jacket in my arms). Premier Grand Crus looked stunning in the parade ring, probably need the run, but on looks alone, wow.
I also had a something on my hero Graham Lee’s mounts. I gave Graham Lee a wave and go a wink back, and got a hello from Ferdy. Divers thankfully didn’t listen to Thommo and "go down" under a strong drive from Graham.
In hindsight, the most obvious multiple bet would have been the 2 Pipe horses running for Jo Tracey, I was too snobbish looking for ‘value’. I’ll not make that mistake again.
The Brian Ellison winner was impressive too, I had a gut feeling that he would be due one today, but I didn’t act on it.
All in, a very enjoyable day out, though some earplugs between races wouldn’t go amiss

Frankly, I don’t give a four X what hair cut Tanya has this week, or what she wears.
I do. I used to dream of having endless hours of passion with her, then rolling her over, lighting a cig, and talking for hours about the racing. Leave me alone with my fantasies Ginge, and Tanya, get a wig till it grows back

Come to the Cheltenham Festival Preview Night at Newbury Racecourse, Wednesday 9th March at 8:00 pm; and meet her, Diamond. She’s even more attractive "in the flesh". Tell Tanya yourself.

I wish mate, though I think she’d put a restraining order on me

I’ll be there, looking forward to it, hope the rain stays away.

That was my first opportunity to see the new show and I think they’ve achieved the seemingly impossible and actually made it worse. McGrath’s analysis apart, it’s garbage. Will stick solely to the satellite channels in future.
And Tanya’s hairdo reminds me of the Friends episode where Monica got a Dudley Moore rather than a Demi Moore. Maybe some enterprising C4 exec will show that episode after next week’s show.
Ouch!

Just wrote about Big Zeb’s jumping on the Tied Cottage thread. It was sensational I thought. Still the one they’ll all have to beat come Cheltenham
I was thinking that myself THM, always needs a decent break between races and good to soft ground. Colm making excuses this morning based on the ground.
What’s happening with this thread, not seen his Highness for a while?
I just hope they find the culprit who thought it was funny to horribly abuse poor Tanya’s barnet.

hmmm I know what you mean as I’ve also noticed him shaking, especially his arms while reading the papers on the Morning Line. Maybe its something to do with his age?
Too much diet cola
It’s there for all to see. Kauto is on the decline, he’s now only the third or fourth best 3m chaser. He’s gone from a 180+ around Kempton (175+ around Cheltenham), to a 165ish to 170ish at Kempton yesterday. He will most likely perform around 165ish around Cheltenham this year. As he declines with age, which is only natural, jumping errors may be more frequent under increasing pressure. In this years Gold Cup, not only will Imperial Commander and a visibly regressing Denman (still slightly superior at Cheltenham) be putting it to Kauto, but so will the new generation of Midnight Chase and Diamond Harry, with possibly even Pandorama. If Kauto doesn’t get into a good rhythm he could be in real trouble like last year. No one likes to see the greats in any sport regressing with age, yesterday, like Diamond Harry at Newbury, was the beginning of a new era.
I swore I was having a day off today, but I think I might take a plunge now, if she’s anything like Voler….

good stuff THM, lovely win for Royal de la Thinte. I didn’t have a bet but mentioned it to my poor old fatherinlaw who couldn’t buy a winner lately
Just saw him heading out of the Tote there…I’ve had a bad back for 20 years (Ankylosing Spondylitis the last I heard which has led to a form or Arthritis that’s left me in Agony in the past 15months), I wish I’d went to a vet the first time I had a symptom back in 1989

Well done to the Quinlans, Given the depth of the plunge, I presume a lot of their hard working and presumably relatively low paid staff had a nice Christmas bonus (or at least I hope they did),
Lastly, I hate hearing about these bookies who’ve suffered badly, it’s a one sided story and never has any facts or figures to back it up, or distorted ones at worst. I remember a few months ago there was a well publicised coup in a Saturday race mid afternoon, it took 2 hours (12 races over 3 cards) for another favourite to win. Yesterday the 2 coups were in the last 2 races but given the 50/1 and 20/1 shots that won the first 2 races, it wss good to see them denied the chance for a quick revenge. I’m sure today they’ll get some with interest.
Think I’ll have a rest today and prepare for Cheltenham tomorrow.
