Alas no entry for Spoken Truth on Sunday, so I’d say highly unlikely to go for Epsom. Sorry, Bobby, looks like I steered you down a blind alley.
Yep, Bobby. Pleasantly surprised to see him entered up. He might still hold him back for the Irish Derby but you never know. Watched the Oddschecker podcast today and Gary O’Brien gave him a favourable mention.
An impressed Weld reported “I won this maiden with Harzand at the start of his career and this is a gorgeous, kind big horse who would like better ground. I love the way he came home over the last furlong as he only hit his stride.
“I’m thinking of running him in the Gallinule (Stakes, 1m2f, May) as it would be a logical way to go and that is his most likely next race. As the season progresses he will fill into that big body of his and it is early days in his career. We are very hopeful with him but time will tell.”
He added “we have only had seven or eight runners this year and they’ve all run well but I’ve been waiting for a bit of better ground. Most of mine will appreciate better ground so I’m waiting for it.”
Looks like the Derby’s not on the table then; my spidey senses should’ve picked-up that he wasn’t turning up here.
I was thinking the same thing, Bobby. I was only going on what Dawn Leadon-Bolger posted on Twitterville. Does seem to be the same race though, as the only flat meeting at Cork was on 30th March and there wasn’t any 1m2f races on that card. That said, he’s an unlikely runner unless he does run on Sunday. Maybe he’ll keep him back for the Irish version. I’m definitely going to take a couple more flyers on the machine though: Bellum Justum and Defiance are 80s and 60s respectively and are of interest to me
I’ve thrown a few quid on Spoken Truth on the machine @200s. Weld’s only entry and brother to Homeless Songs. Won the same maiden as Harzand last month in comfortable fashion. Cant see any news on him, so the odds probably point to him not heading here but had a small bet on him just in case.
Happy with that from Kalanisi Star with a fair Mullins horse in second and 18 lengths back to the third. Crying for a step up in trip and McKiernan alluded to that post/race. Whether he goes up to intermediate or 3 miles remains to be seen – going to have another little saver on the Ballymore just in case. 33s still out there which is absolutely fair. Form of his ptp and bumper have received numerous boosts.

Nice introduction for Nusret there. Had a small bet at 50s on the back of Darryl Jacob putting him up as his horse to follow. Bit airy at a couple but looked to have a good bit in the tank. Long way to go, obviously and who knows how good the likes of Lossiemouth are.
That did cross my mind, Glad. Relatively quick turnaround after the best part of 600 days off. I might give him one more chance. Offered 95% of my stake as cash out and was toying with taking it and putting it on Kalanisi Star for the AB.
Sad to see the Bear Ghylls dream pretty much dead in the water. Could excuse not finishing his race off first time out but looks like there’s an issue with him and doesn’t look like the engine’s still there.
One a day where the Bear Ghylls dream died it was nice to see a decent form boost for Kalanisi Star. Beat Monbeg Park by an easy 16 lengths in the Doc’s bumper. 50s still available with PP for this and the Ballymore. GSI!
Hills are the only ones to have priced it up thus far and have The Bear @3s. The vibes from the Martin stable are pretty positive.
Well, even though you missed the Arkle win you can at least take some solace that you saw the potential.
Ha, that is a cracking story. Did you have any inkling that he’d turn out to be a good’un?
Ha, love the detective work. Ben what’s your David Jennings impression like? McKiernan certainly keeps a low profile but he has trained a Befair Bowl winner many moons ago with Follow the Plan. I’ve actually backed another of his, Meet and Greet, for the NH Chase (again requested that to be added to the betting). Third behind The Nice Guy and Minella Cocooner at Punchestown but not really bred for chasing so not really that hopeful of that one.
Alas no, mate. I actually had to request him to be added to the AB betting, so my endorsement might not be something to hang your hat on. I’ve googled searched for updates and also on Twitter but I guess because he’s a relatively small trainer there won’t be any stable tours etc.
Cheers Glad. Yep, Ahoy Senor was pitched into it last year and unseated, unfortunately. Big ask against more experienced chasers, notably Miller’s Bank, and, as you say after such a long layoff. Just hoping he doesn’t completely blow out and jumps well to keep the dream alive. Have him in a treble with Alpinista and Ahoy Senor which would be very nice if it came in.
