Today’s treble …
Other value today …
Forest at home to Swansea today … tough one to call … we’re definitely improving but it does make me nervous when I read quotes from certain players in the press stating how "we’re going to give someone a real thumping soon" … tempting fate or what ? Continued recent improvement and 3-1 win was very comfortableOne of those races that throws up the dilemma of several horses running that you’ve been following for some time … in this case, Wannabe King, Swift Gift and Light From Mars … two choices … either don’t have a bet or figure out which one of the three would p**s me off the most if it won … LFM is the one that falls into the latter category so may end up having a few quid ew at this morning’s 40’s especially given his decent form last Autumn.
PS … I assume you’re not waiting for us to get back in the Prem before your visit … it could take a while

fyi, Matthew … "Hooters" has moved location

Talking of history and low points, Matthew … April 1991 at the famous City Ground … 5 minutes of torture here for your boys in blue … enjoy

I’ve always been relatively neutral in terms of her presenting skills but, to be fair, I’ve observed her paddock-side (as it were) on a number of occasions when she was on Racing UK duty and always been struck by how pleasant and professional she was … and divorce is never a subject to be taken lightly whatever the circumstances.
Oh dear, TAPK … I have a degree of sympathy as I’ve been doing very well on my football bets in the last two weeks (awful on my hypothetical one on here though) but once that full time whistle has blown, the opportunity to tell everyone on here is lost unless you’re prepared to take dog’s abuse … I even contemplated scanning in the slip of my five timer from last Tuesday night’s footie until I stopped myself in mid thought and asked myself what I was trying to prove … I have nothing to prove to anyone … and suggest you take the same view

… just think, a few short words along the lines of "it’s not his preferred ground but I’ve backed him anyway" would have reduced this thread by several pages

For the record, I still think you’re worth the read … the uncertainty of Ante Post requires a particular type of analysis and, over time, I still think your record speaks for itself … chin up, fella … I’m guessing it will take more than a few doubters to dent your self confidence

I’m not normally a contributor to the "good ride/bad ride" threads but can’t see how anyone can defend Jamie Spencer for an ever increasing back catalogue of rides like the Tiddlywinks one … swinging away on the bridle and taken left and right on numerous occasions before finishing absolutely full of running after being forced to apply the brakes yet again half a furlong out … I find it amazing that trainers continue to give him opportunities when his style on hold up horses seems to be based on gaps appearing by luck rather than judgement … for those making it, the contrast with the Dettori ride on Redford is that Frankie had clear line of sight to his passage through and made the right choices at the right times … I know Richard Hughes often takes criticism for similar tactics … Cumulus Nimbus yesterday anyone ?
… however, the difference is that Hughes, unlike Spencer, appears to recognise when he needs to be just a length or two closer to the pace before making his final surge … witness how many times Hughes has got the Hannon two year olds up to win by narrow margins this season … many of them come from off the pace and have just one short, surging run in them … so the judgement of Hughes in how close he sits to the pace is vital and he seems to get it right more often than not.Sorry, TAPK … but making "positive noises" about a dozen runners and then cherry picking the appropriate comment post race is a tad cheeky … having said that, I guess if it was genuinely considered after timing you’d have received the full wrath of AJ by now … ssssshhh, looks like you got away with it

Given the type of racing we’ve had today … ie., big fields and competitive handicaps … you will find 2 or 3 examples, minimum, of hard luck stories for each race … Hanagan on Barefoot Lady quite within his rights to not let Spencer out when he was looking for the gap … watch Richard Hughes on Cumulus Nimbus in the Newbury 3.05 … galloped halfway around Berkshire before switching wide and making late progress … and I’m sure there were lots of others.
Balance c/f £200 (-£300)
Dipping into the lower divisions again for today’s treble
Potential returns @ £412.50
Some competitive stuff out there today with surprisingly few odds-on home games across the divisions showing just how tough it is … expect plenty of aways today as a consequence …
Value today ? … Watford too big at 10/3 at Millwall
Pleased with Forest’s first away win since January on Tuesday night (especially as it was part of an excellent five timer incl Leicester, Hull, Palace and Barnsley) and can see them coming away with something from the KC Stadium today with 23/10 the draw looking the most likely outcome …
Oh, and Damien each way at 40’s with Ladbrokes this morning in the Ayr Gold Cup … very well named as he seems to possess the same sort of character traits as his namesake in The Omen but more than capable of being involved on his neck second to Markab at level weights earlier this season (the last time he was ridden by today’s jockey, Robert Winston)Happy punting

One of the best National Hunt ones out there …..
I’m off to Upton Park tomorrow but for once I’m not gonna be all super confident, this is a tough game even though it may look a formality on paper.
Scott Parker and Carlton Cole will wanna play blinders to prove Chelsea they were wrong to let them go.
Should be a cracking London Derby though

Yep, tough game Matthew against a side that have now lost their opening four games and have a kamikaze goalkeeper whose nerve is shot to pieces … as for Parker and Cole … wanting to and having the capability to play blinders against the likes of Chelsea are two entirely different things

At the risk of repeating myself, I note that the teams Chelsea have played in their first 4 games are currently 16th, 17th, 19th and 20th in the table … and next Sunday’s game ?? … ooohh, a "tough" encounter against 4th placed Blackpool … Matthew, any chance that the guy who programmes the fixture computer is a Stamford Bridge season ticket holder ??

I am sure a lot of people would think Lydia could do with losing more than a pound or two although I would sooner see her lose that awful red necklace
To lower the tone several notches, I’ll leave you to make your own jokes up regarding what type of necklace you’d prefer to see as a replacement

Balance c/f @ £250 (-£250)
Today’s £50 treble
Potential returns @ £305.31

Speculative long-shots today …
Everton 7/2 vs Man Utd … the home side have been playing better than results so far suggestBlackpool 5/1 at Newcastle … need to see the home side again before they fully convince
Carlisle 4/1 at Sheff Weds … too long for a side that look to have improved since last season

Hoping for an improved display at home today from Forest although the general downbeat mood at the club and the ongoing spat between the manager and the board ref lack of transfer activity doesn’t bode well … talks of fan protests on the forums so defeat today could be interesting.

Somehow I can’t envisage a time when every single Working Men’s Club north of Watford Gap meets to arrange their annual coach trip and chooses dressage day at the Burghley horse trials over John Smith’s Cup day at York
