It’s not looking good for this to go ahead. I really will be gutted if it doesn’t.
I’ve had a right cut at Bluesea Cracker and I was getting more confident by the day.
Please let it be on…
King, I agree with your comments about Notre Pere. I couldn’t ever see him winning the National as he just isn’t nimble/athletic enough for the task. What I mean is he will find it difficult keeping out of trouble particularly as he hasn’t the pace to race up with the leaders.
Tailor made for the Welsh, however, the class horse in the race is Bluesea Cracker, off 140 she has to go very close.
Jumps
Earth Summit – what a horse, Scottish, Welsh and the Grand National. Loved him to bits. I remember the night before his Grand National I was so excited I couldn’t sleep!
Danoli – just loved him and the romance that surrounded him. I remember reading a quote from Tom Foley upon his first visit to Cheltenham where he described the fences as being like paintings.
Mon Mome – just love him. He’s been incredibly lucky for me and I don’t think he is finished just yet!
Flat
Troy – was the horse that got me into this mess in the first place! Only joking. Was the first horse I really followed. Wagged school to watch him win the Derby.
Giant Causeway – what a battler. As tough as teak. Was lucky enough to be present when he went head to head with Tiznow in the Breeders Cup. Couldn’t believe he got beat that day.
Sea The Stars – the greatest horse I have ever seen. A true great. Every race was a real event. I hope he passes on his class to his kids. He gave me some truly unfortgettable days
Bloody hell your Majesty! You are a proper punk rocker.
I would have thought you would have been into Queen…or is that just between the sheets!
I’ve backed Dashing George in this at 33s. I put the bet on during Tuesday daytime. But to my horror I see he is also entered in the Sefton with Jamie Moore jocked up.
This horse came 2nd in the Munster National and 4th in the Kerry National so surely 3miles + would be much more suitable than the 2m 5f of the Sefton.
He had a pipe opener over hurdles at Towcester last month and should now be ready to run for his life.
Comments from the form book on his Kerry National 4th described his jumping as tremendous!
He’s never fallen and his former trainer said he excels on soft going.
Hi Wallace,
very taken with Recital’s performance yesterday, won it easy.
Was very interesting that Desmond Stoneham in the RP today wrote that considering the ground was bottomless it was an AMAZING performance by a colt with such a good action.
He also described it as EASILY the most impressive display for a juvenile in France this season.
I hope you are on for the Derby at big prices. I’ll be investing today at 16s.
Didn’t do either in each way singles. However, I have done Classic Vintage in an each way double with Espoir City at 25s in the Breeders Cup Classic tonight. Big ask but you never know.
I don;t think it’s gonna be that soft. Good to soft at worst.
I backed Classic Vintage earlier in the week – took 16s, he’s 20s now! I thought his last run was very eye catching, would have gone close with a clearer run.
He had decent form last year, particularly his Goodwood win. With the stable in cracking form I am hopeful that he will go very close.
Simeon is a danger and I might have a saver on him.
If French Navy wins his next race – he’s due to run in the Criterium International at Saint Cloud during the next week – and wins it well, then Godolphin could have 3 of the top 4 or 5 in the betting for next year’s Derby.
Gaz, can’t agree with you about the distance being no problem for Sentry Duty. I think the distance will be his biggest problem.
You may point to him winning a 3 mile hurdle at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day, but that would be very misleading. I was there that day and believe me they went a snail’s pace for the vast majority of the race. If you don’t believe me then watch a reply, if you’ve got the patience! He only had two rivals that day.
Looking through the rest of his form leads me to believe that the trip will find him out.
Boy oh boy! All my picks get a duff draw.
I spent ages studying this last night and came up with a new shortlist of three;
Swingkeel
Deauville Flyer
Universal TruthIn the end I passed over Swingkeel because he is just too slow and ran poorly last year in this same race, albeit from a poor draw. He’ll stay alright but I can’t see him winning.
Universal Truth – well the value has gone, he’s inexperienced and I’m not certain he;s guaranteed to stay. However, if there is one horse who could run away with this race it is him.
In the end I backed Deauville Flyer at 20’s with Billys. Was strongly fancied in the Northumberland Plate but didn’t get the run of the race. Been rested for this and King Kieran is on board.
Will do a small stakes tricast and forecast cover bets just in case.
You watch, my original picks will probably dominate the race!
At this stage I’m homing in on Gala Evening, Majestic Concorde and Kayf Aramis.
However, I’ll hold off until the draw comes out as a low draw is a huge negative in this race.
Only 1 in 20 winners drawn in single figures and 9 of the last 10 drawn lower than 18.
Hello Zarkava,
this is an excellent thread.
I would appreciate your view on the liklihood of Maxios taking up his Derby entry. I read on Mordin’s site that this is his only major entry.
Given his breeding, the Derby distance is likely to suit him much better than the Jockey Club distance.
I acknowledge he is French based but his trainer is English.
What do you think ?
This year St Nicholas Abbey was a crushing disapointment.
Steinbeck was another who was supposed to be a world beater, but instead of him being a dreamboat he turned out to be a footnote.
Do you remember the hype about William Hogarth before he ran ? He was supposed to be a real Derby horse. He won yesterday at Bangor on Dee.
Sarafina for me. I really hope she stays in training as I am sure we haven’t seen the best of her yet.
On the off chance she does stay in training, I hope we see her in the likes of the Eclipse, King George, Juddmont, and Arc next season.
Do you think Sheik Mo will buy any of his progeny or would that been seen as losing face ?
Genuine question.
Hi Folks,
this is my first post.
I’ve been into racing since wagging school to watch Troy win the Derby at the age of 10!
My interest grew once I began working and had a bit of money to spend.
I regularly going racing be it flat or National Hunt. However, I am a bit of a snob and only like the very best racing (group 1 tracks).
My favourite track is Cheltenham, and I go to just about every meeting there. I’m very lucky that my lass really enjoys racing too.
We’ve been lucky enough to have gone to Cheltenham on a few ocassions this year, Goodwood, Ascot and the St Leger meeting. We’ve also been to the likes of Longchamp, Churchill Downs and the Curragh over the years.
I like to have a punt every weekend, and I am particularly partial to an ante post wager. I currently have the following tickets in my draw;
Time For Rupert – RSA Chase
Native Khan – 2000 Guineas
Masked Marvel – DerbyMy favourite races are the Hennessy, Welsh National, Grand National, Irish National, Champion Hurdle, Gold Cup, Derby and the Arc.
Apart from racing, I’m into football and enjoy running in half marathons.
I hope I can bring something positive to the forum.
