I don’t really know why I’m doing this since the OP:-
1) Hasn’t been on for ages
2) Never said thank you to those who did respond. Also, the thread did take a turn for the silly what with the bitchiness and the spam…
But the horse’s third dam (Welsh Tan) is the dam of Corps Et Ame (who won a listed hurdle at Auteuil in the 90s) and is also a full sister to Spinning Saint who finished 2nd in an Arkle Chase at Cheltenham.
Christ I’m bored…
Who exactly is this meant to be appeasing?
I thought they went too far blasting irrelevant music over the otherwise heart-warming cheers and applause of the winner’s enclosure.
Now I’m fearing a time where racing will be hosted by ant and dec (or whoever the pop icons of the day are) whilst the races themselves are ran to Lady Gaga-esque music and flashing disco lights with synthetic cheering and whooping piped in through the tannoys.
The colours themselves are disgusting by the way and only fortify my belief that each and every fashion student and expert should be publicly flogged whilst wearing a urine soaked bin-liner.
Utter ******* disgrace

I completely agree, at least one year. They completely revoked an American trainers license for simply having one too many drugs violations and some needles found in his barn. And yet they let this contemptible man get away with de-nervating a horses feet so that it in effect runs until its foot falls off.
Never was a big fan but now I dislike man. here is the story

After the terrible press the National got surely the Racing Authorities need to take a tougher stance on welfare? I was appalled when I read some people thought they ought to not bypass the fences where the horses were stricken. I love racing but I love horses more and seeing Ornais just drop dead like that and left under a sheet of tarpaulin made me sick to my stomach.
Whip penalties need to be pecuniary, jockeys just beat the horses black and blue sometimes then get a 3 day ban which happens to fall when no important racing is on. And if it falls on important racing everyone complains it is unfair.
I used to compete in the sport of horse trials and I can tell you any rider who had a written or verbal warning for abuse of the whip was so mortified it very rarely happened. They had a two yellow card system which when together meant a red card and a several month ban, not sure the rules have ever been engaged
I couldn’t possibly disagree with anything here.
Can we start a petition for the Fly to run in the Ascot Gold Cup? I think he would have as good a a chance as Fame and Glory has on all known form!
Only provided that Fame and Glory runs at Cheltenham in the return leg…
Otherwise my pen stays firmly in my pocket.
This thread has attracted the forum’s nutters I see…
For crying out load BB, can you not just laugh in the face of anyone who has a different opinion to you?
You’re obviously in the Bib Bucks camp but this thread would have been dead and buried if every one thought the same as you – there are people out there who are in the Hurricane Fly camp, and have gave very valid reasons as to why.
A bit disrespectful just laugh at them don’t you think?
To be fair though, it is the internet

It’s all well and good lambasting the staying division but this is far from a classic era of 2m hurdlers.
The places in the last two/three champion hurdles have been inundated with what is essentially an uninspiring blend of stayers and horses who wouldn’t have got within 20lbs of the likes of Hardy Eustace, Rooster Booster, Harchibald, Brave Inca etc… Also the latter bunch were considered fairly vanilla in the wake of Istabraq.
Whilst Hurricane Fly is quite comfortably the best 2 miler we’ve seen in a while, you’ll never see him treat his opponents with complete and utter disdain. Big Bucks is simply peerless in that he’s been doing that for years now.
One also has to take into account that whilst Big Bucks is super durable, you wouldn’t want to put your house/spouse on Hurricane Fly even making it to next year’s hypothetical Aintree Hurdle.
Given that there is evidence that the conditions of the Aintree Hurdle would suit Hurricane Fly, I can accept that that particular race will be closely priced. However, if the race was ran over 2m5f at Cheltenham, Big Bucks would be comfortable be an odds on shot.
Percentage call? Big Bucks.
Can we close this discussion now?
True
But only if the oversight was spotted and/or a challenge/complaint was lodged.
I suppose it’s a bet to nothing that nobody else will notice

Because it gives those horses you’ve never heard of a chance for their day in the sun…
Although I must admit that you do have a point. Those 0-95 handicap hurdles at Worcester are really detrimental to this year’s Epsom Derby as well as next season’s Champion Chase for some reason.
" three-metre fence into the croud (sic)"
Crikey I just read the byline under the photo. The press really suck on a global scale these days.
On RTE radio news on Tuesday their sports report stated that John Higgins broke down in tears after winning the World Championship because he was thinking about his father Alex Hurricane Higgins who died earlier that year from cancer.

Qui aime bien châtie bien.
All the women I’ve ever met who’ve suffered from domestic violence et cetera, suffered at the hands of white, English, middle class men. Should I single out the white, middle class Englishman and only the white middle class Englishman when attacking domestic violence?
Organisations like Amnesty International do their utmost to draw attention to all forms of domestic abuse without turning it into a race issue.
Probably because they don’t have that ulterior motive of keeping certain peoples "in check".

Epic horse is epic!!!1!
I think Banna Strand is a pretty cool guy. eh jumps on humans and doesn’t afraid of anything.
In all honesty though, the course designer is in for a spanking after that balls-up…

On the horse, awesome is a much overused word but that was truly awesome in the proper sense of the word. Can you think of a single horse in any race ever (with the notable exception of Make a Stand in the Champion Hurdle) who could blast off that fast and finish first by any margin?
Edit:
OK, Secretariat but I can’t think of another one.
Pretty much every Martin Pipe trained novice throughout the 80s and the 90s

I was going to say Hawk Wing although he was more about the turn of foot but Dubai Millennium would probably fit your criteria.
Frankel’s still the most impressive 2000 Guineas winner I’ve ever seen though.
That was truly astonishing. My jaw had dropped after 3 furlongs and coming to the dip, my balls were gone.
I’m a jumps person as a rule and I thought that nothing could excite as much as watching Big Bucks swinging on the bridle but Frankel well and truly blew me away.
As for the Derby, it’s only blind curiosity that makes me want to see him go there but whilst obviously he won’t be able to "Slip Anchor" his rivals given his breeding, the horse has class in abundance which can often carry a horse to the line.
For now, I think it’s best to just saviour the occasion and let the future sort itself out.
I’m no expert by any stretch of the imagination but the one featuring King’s Gambit and Black Spirit was particularly stunning.
Bravo
