Well so far, I have to say that I’d preferred to have seen
Seriously though, even though I’m much more of a national hunt connoisseur, I must confess to really enjoying this flat season. For the first time in nigh on a decade you have a top notch sprinter in Dream Ahead. Two lovely mares in the shapes of Goldikova and Midday. The most exciting miler of my (I started watching in ’92) generation in Frankel. The enigmatic beast that is So You Think as well as an increasingly classy looking classic generation.
You flat folk haven’t had it this good in a while and I’m pretty surprised one’s looking for lamentatations.
If pressed, I’d say that your staying division lacks strength in depth but then again, when since the days of Persian Punch has it not?
Just enjoy your best season in ages whilst it’s still going

Come to think of it, if memory serves me correctly, didn’t Frankie respond similarly to another stricken Godolphin servant a couple of years ago?
I forgot to add that I agree with andyod’s theory as to why jump jockeys have such a strong affinity with their mounts.
Ta TTAT

So the only conclusion is that Frankie Dettori is truly an egomaniacal piece of shit.
Pretty much sums this place up at the moment. Most of the forum stalwarts sadly departed or rarely sighted these days. Hard to blame them really, when you consider whats being posted.

Perhaps you’d be kind enough to offer a counter-argument to my point?
Cheers for the response andyod
Ignoring those feelings whilst betting is indeed a legitimate caveat. Similar sentiments can also be applied to a certain Keiren Fallon who whilst being a disreputable so and so of the highest order, is an incredible talent who’s frankly peerless whenever the money is down.
Oddly enough though, I actually have a lot more respect for Fallon than I do Dettori because he is under no illusions insofar as his character is concerned.
Digressing a little, I am not a betting man. I had my last bet on a horse in May and am primarily a horse racing fan who goes racing and subscribes to racing media. As such, I find it astounding that given that our sport is absolutely inundated with incredible characters, this leaping harlequin has been granted status of chief poster boy by the powers that be.
I threw up a little bit when I read the thread title…
Cool smilie

Right now, I’m listening to my favourite song about my least favourite subject (philosophy)

Hi Pinza
I believe you’ve already answered your own question.

Agreed it doesn’t matter a jot, as the public won’t find out about it.
What the public doesn’t know, doesn’t hurt, eh?
Jesus christ.
Correctamundo.
It would be lovely if horse racing was a sport ran by idealists for idealists but the truth is that it’s one of Britain’s most fundamentally flawed pastimes.
The public both interested in the sport and otherwise are fully aware of this. Those interested in the sport rarely let the innumerable outrages put them off. Conversely, those not interested in the sport in the first place aren’t suddenly going to become hooked if every jockey, owner and trainer was bugged 24/7 and the races were ran on marshmallow.
Personally, I don’t gamble because I believe that unless one has perfect knowledge, information and discipline then it’s a mugs game in the long run. I also believe that the whip is an unnecessary, violent instrument of abuse. But that doesn’t stop me from being fascinated by the quandary of whether the 7lb penalty will be too much for Market Maker in today’s juvenile hurdle at Market Rasen or if the flatter track, right handed turns will enable him to find that 7lb (I don’t think it will btw).
I think for every fan of the sport, the star of pure conscience burns out eventually but as in life, TS

Rusko… I liked him for about 4 months. Dubstep wore very thin very quickly for me I’m afraid.Right now, I’m listening to Type O Negative – Love You To Death

I’m sure they’ve worn thin for a few people also…
Indeed it was a joke that it was allowed to run. However, it was a very rare incident and most horses who bolt loose before the start are withdrawn out of courtesy. Nevertheless, it’s a courtesy that should be regulated in the future.
(i.e;- a horse that gallops loose for any more than a furlong is to be immediately withdrawn)
As for racing’s image, there won’t even be a dent. It’s not something that will get any media coverage outside of racing. Even within racing, the incident will have gained the attention of only the obsessive purists and a few people who try not to let racing distract them from the FOBTs.
She must have known Triggerlo was there on her inner. Certainly not pleasant viewing and one can only be grateful it wasn’t a large field.
Do other thoroughly clean and above board sports have this level of hara-kiri?
hara-kiri, aka Seppuku, is a method of suicide Not a synonym.
No sport on the planet is clean and above board.
To answer your question, Baseball, Football and Cricket top this particular list

Commiserations to the friends and family of the deceased.
Still favour the bookies with that over round!!
You’re not kidding at 153%
The racecard is telling me to back 2 so I’ll back 2.
This is turning into a semantic headache…
My interpretation is that 7.2 applies only to Novice Hunter Chases as the cut off point for hunters is the 6th of June 2010
5.5.2 a Novice Hunters’ Steeple Chase if it is a Weight-for-Age Steeple Chase confined to Amateur Riders and to horses which
5.5.2.1 are certified by a Master of Hounds to have been hunted, and
5.5.2.2 in respect of any race run or to be run in 2011, have not won a steeple chase before June 6th, 2010,7.3 applies to any chase(including novice chases) that isn’t mentioned in 7.2.
Trainers are obviously abusing the system
If this abuse is so obvious then you should be exploiting this for your own benefit and making tons of money.
Well the racing in each of the countries is governed by the regulatory bodies of the respective nation.
In Ireland, you’re still considered to be a novice so long as you’ve won no more than one hunter chase. That hunter chase having been in the previous two seasons.
In Britain, you’ve only a novice if you’ve not won a chase before April 24th. There are no specific exemptions for hunter chases.
So whilst Mossey Joe is still legible for the big novice chase at the Leopardstown in Christmas, the P.J Moriarty and the Powers Gold Cup and Punchestown etc, he wouldn’t be legible for any novice chase in the UK.
That’s my understanding of it. I dare say that if Mossey Joe is to run in the RSA, not only would he be setting a precedent but the BHA will need to do some tweaking in their rulebook.
Cheers for your thought thehorsesmouth.
Ah… from The Irish Turf Club rule book;-
For the purpose of the 2010/2011 National Hunt season:- "Novice" for hurdle races is a horse which has not won a hurdle race prior to 25th April, 2010, and for steeplechases is a horse which has not won a steeplechase prior to 25th April, 2010,
other than one hunter steeplechase within the previous two National Hunt seasons
.
Obviously, this is from last year but I imagine it will still be the same this year so apologies to Brian Fleming

However… from The British Horseracing Authority;-
7. Novice horses
7.1 A horse is a Novice, in respect of a flat race, if the horse is permitted to run in the race in accordance with the definition of any novice flat race category defined in Rule 4.7.
7.2 A horse is a Novice, in respect of a Hunters’ Steeple Chase, if the horse is permitted to run in the race in accordance with the definition of Novice Hunters’ Steeple Chase in Rule 5.5.2.
7.3 In respect of any steeple chase which is run in The Jump Season 2011/2012 and is not within Paragraph 7.2,a horse is a Novice if the horse has not won a steeple chase before April 24th, 2011.
So Mossey Joe will NOT be legible to run in this season’s RSA chase. Which means I’m ultimately right

I feel like I’ve learnt something today. I hope you all have too.
Can’t say I agree with you.
Like you mention, the horse wasn’t exactly settled. The early pace was very slow so it was probably prudent to make the challenge when he did and besides, he closed at near enough the same time and rate as the other hold up horses. Furthermore, the 2nd and 3rd were racing prominently, the 2nd running in snatches in fact.
Somewhat disappointing though he was, Grands Crus had other excuses yesterday including long season (we didn’t know if he’s "tough sort" like the Mullins horses), slow pace and the soft ground.
The Tony McCoy excuse is tenuous at best
