Chelt Spec, I know you are keen on Sword Of Destiny, but I really don’t think he will travel. This horse is very ground dependant and it certainly looks like the ground will be too fast for him. Meade has already suggested that this would be the case.
Lovely horse for next season’s winter ground mind.Tidal Bay not running according to Wylie
I know the owners of Fiveforthree and they backed the horse for the Supreme the week before the race, as Willie has said he was siding towards that race. Ended up winning the Neptune, but that will tell you about Willie. He is a law unto himself with the majority of his owners. In fairness most owners leave it up to the master, but surely a bit of accurate info a few weeks before the meeting is called for. It’s the least you would expect.
All was forgiven obviously.
Certainly won’t be backing anything just yet, but the ones that stand out at first glance are Harpsy Cord (in whatever he runs in), Jetson in the Coral, Bat Masterson in the Fred Winter and I have a sneaky feeling for Catch Me in the Pertemps. Fruity O’Rooney also looks well treated.
I’m even more convinced that the best 4yo race was the Leop race which Hisaabat and Shadow Catcher fought out the finish. Hard to believe both can be backed at around 16/1 still, especially after what we have just seen.
Shadow catcher was left in front too soon, but travelled like a dream throughout, met the last all wrong and will undoubtedly come on for the experience, it being only his 2nd run over hdles.Hisaabat also tavelled well that day, jumped much better with the blinkers on and won quite cosily. Weld thinks the triumph could be the making of him, as he quickens up off a strong pace and has plenty of experience now.
I have backed both, but pref is for Welds charge.
Well you can laugh back at him when you get one up. Got a €2 L63 up at Chelts in 2003. Paid over 7k. Favs year that year, so just covered the ones I couldn’t see get beat.
This year is looking scarily similar to my mind.Marvellous. PFN sends his sick horses the length and breadth of England 3 weeks before Chelts.
Hello to all. My usual re-appearance around festival time.
My one and only ante-post wager is Cash and Go, and I am extremely sweet on his chances. I heard very good work before his Xmas run and backed him accordingly. I was very impressed the way he travelled, dug deep and then went away from Dylan Ross, and felt he had plenty more in the tank. I’m of the opinion the stiff finish will suit at Chelts.
After the run EOG said he would try and get another run in to him pre chelts. I hope he doesn’t and goes there a fresh horse. Just a personal preference. 16s is a great price now, especially if he wins a prep race snugly. I don’t fear any of the English horses, but definitely think Jessies, Meades and Willies will be the dangers.
First Lieu was my big ante post wager last year, so heres hoping I can strike again.
I think this is an above average Supreme.
Looks like you’ve lost your 4000 cent.
Mouse Morris has confirmed Grade One winner First Lieutenant will run in the Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham next week.
"He’ll run in the Neptune," said the County Tipperary handler
"He’s a horse I haven’t had any major hiccups with, and that’s a bonus."The Neptune has to be one of the least talked about graded races. Maybe it’s due to the fact that there are question marks about several leading players participation.
I have backed First Lieutenant at 14s. I think he has an outstanding chance. He has some very good form in the book in beating Zaidpour and Hidden Cyclone (won two graded races since) over an inadequate 2m. He will surely appreciate the better ground, being by Presenting and having won on good ground over 2m4, and is a definite runner. Mouse and Davy tick the boxes aswell.
I think he will go off at single figures on the day.
I agree, and it sort of backs up my point in a way.
I am of the opinion that there will be some very good/top class chasers to come out of this field. They tend not to win the CH. Kicking King went close, and if Sizing had not have got injured then who knows. But the fact remains that they both became top class chasers who failed in the CH
It is just another factor to take in to consideration, of which there are many this year. I am ruling out what I precieve to be the future chasing stars. Maybe to my cost, but I need to trim the field somehow. The Champion Hdle is won by real hurdling specialists in recent years. Horses that dont go chasing. I can’t remember the last CH winner to make it at the top of the chasing game. Well over 10 years anyway.
I’m fairly sure Peddlars Cross will make a top notch chaser. Hes connections have already made noises to that effect.
I can also see Menorah excelling in this sphere, although have heard nothing to back this up. This is my own perception.I also feel that Dunguib and Oscar Whiskey will go chasing next season.
Binocular, Hurricane Fly, Khyber Kim and Mille Chief are all hurdling specialists and imo will remain hurdling until retired.
They are all slick jumpers (still ?s about HF in a strongly run race), with high a cruising speed and have a kick at the finish (maybe I am flattering Mille Chief a bit).I see no reason why Khyber (who I backed last year) will reverse form with Binoc. I would be concerned about Hurricane’s jumping in a true run race. I dont think Mille Chief is quite good enough (altough I didnt think Katchit was either albeit in a much inferior race) but will run a very good race.
Binocular must be the one. Mille Cheif to be placed.
I think if Mick had of gambled on a run up the rail he would have won on Hitchcock. In fairness to him, it looked tight but as it worked out, the other 2 drifted slightly left, leaving a generous gap up the rail. It was the switch wide of these two that cost him the crucial length.
Every year I tell myself not to back at Ascot, and every year I do. I cant seem to get my head around it at all. In a twisted way I think I like to punish myself by backing losers there. I think every punter needs one magpie meet to moan about.
Anyway, to get out of the sh*t
