Everyone appreciates Kauto beat nothing.
But it was the way he travelled yesterday – seemed full of zest. Last season bar the King George, he didn’t travel particularly well in his races. Reports from the Nicholls horse seem to infer the horse has come back a different horse after the summer break and that was reflected in the manner of victory yesterday.
Roll on Haydock.
Fantastic performance. Faultless display of jumping. Nothing will beat Kauto in 3 weeks time at Haydock unless conditions turn treacherous.
3.35 – 2 pts win OLLIE MAGERN

The Tother One is perfectly adept at 3 miles, he’s just a little bit of a quirky sort.
Remember Nicholls being none too impressed with Sam Thomas last year, may have been at Cheltenham where he got to the front too soon. The Tother One is always going to be one of those horses that isn’t going to do a great deal in front. Nevertheless I think both him and Gone To Lunch are horses to follow this season.
I thought the horse was close enough 4 out if good enough on the day. Didn’t seem to have the change of gear when it mattered, and the fact it finished so close to the winner was due to it idling according to King.
Yes, Straw Bear didn’t get the full pack and rifle by Mccoy, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t ridden to obtain best placing.
No point even debating the rights or wrongs of this decision.
Its the nature of flat racing and why I’m a jumps fan.
I’m just happy that my memory of Zarkava is illuminated by her final two wins and the sheer brilliance she showed. Could she have ever repeated the feat? We’ll never know, but the memories of Zarkava will live on.
I think Pasco is pretty much nailed on especially considering the form of Nicholls novices first time out this season – Breedsbreeze, Imsingingtheblues, Herecomesthetruth to name but three. Pasco looks more likely out of the two horses to improve for fences.
With David Brady on this – I have no interest at all in the Breeders Cup and never have done.
Give me the chasing debuts of Pasco, The Tother One and Straw Bear at Exeter today over the Breeders Cup anytime!
I’ll second that – great shout Cavelino.
Excellent news David!
I’m having a shocking time too David at the moment – Can’t buy a winner on the racing but also my second sport football I’ve had 5 consecutive accumulator bets where 1 team out of the 5 or 6 results has let me down.
Maybe I should just bet singles on football and I’d be in profit? Its all if’s and buts. Sometimes the more you analyse the bets you have, the more you lose your confidence to keep betting through the bad times.
As I think Himself said – its all about betting within your means and not chasing the losses.
Can’t be overly disappointed with that.
Kempton is a world away from Cheltenham as a course, where the stiff finish looks to suit Katchit.
He ideally likes the ground a bit easier.
It was a pipe-opener – we know King is particularly adept at bringing horses to their peak for when it matters.
All in all, do not write Katchit off.
I can’t understand any supposed criticism of Geraghty. Does he have a reputation that I’ve not heard about?
Always been a fan of the man myself – He’s a good talker off the horses and on the horses he’s always seemed to give the horse the best possible chance and looked strong in a finish – As people have said, his record speaks for itself.
I’m certainly a fan of Barry Geraghty.
Have no problems with Spencer either, although not particularly a fan of his riding style.
That is the bloke’s character though – wears his heart very much on his sleeve. I’ll never forget his reaction to falling at the last on Special Envoy last year at Haydock. He’s come back after months out the saddle and been collared with what is in my mind an unjustified penalty, explained brilliantly above by Jeremy.
Can’t fault Merrigan for voicing his frustrations.
Nicholls seems positive about the situation comparing it to a problem that EUROTREK had and which was rectified.
Mind you, I guess it’s his job to be positive on such an issue and not provoke panic amongst the public.
