Interesting to see Barry Geraghty coming to the UK for one ride tomorrow on Ingratitude at Towcester for Nicky Henderson.
How many runners does Henderson have at Towcester. Not many I would imagine.
Hope it all goes well as it does look a reasonably good thing to get the partnership on the way.
October 8, 2008 at 01:27 #183998In view of the horse’s name, reckon Geraghty didn’t dare turn it down.

October 9, 2008 at 21:54 #184147I’m not sure about this one; I’ve always liked Geraghty because of his association with Monty’s Pass and the wonderful Moscow Flyer, but I’ve read a lot of criticism of his style of riding…however, I’m sure Mick Fitz has had a lot to do with Nicky Henderson choosing him, and I would certainly trust his judgement [how on earth do you replace someone like that?] I do hope it works though, for all concerned and especially for Nicky Henderson who I’ve got so much respect for.
October 9, 2008 at 23:56 #184160Henderson would have thought hard about this and I can’t believe he would have gone with him if Mick Fitz had said not to go for it. If it doesn’t work out, Henderson won’t let it drag on I should imagine. I hope it does for the horses Henderson has in his charge. People are entitled to criticise but if I don’t like a jockey, I don’t back the horse – simple.Of the current jockeys, he is one of the top riders of the Aintree Grand National course and that’s no mean feat in itself. He’s ridden hundreds of winners so he can’t be all that bad.
October 10, 2008 at 16:32 #184220Geraghtys Bottle was under the scope for a long time.. And not without due cause. Just look at the times he toppled up Moscow… ANd the Kicking King Incident in Gowran last year…Cost hiim the race.At the last he in a hard ridden finish he is more interested in staying on than Lashin the horse at the fence… I’v watched him with a close eye for last few years…Might i add if he gets over the last there is no one Stronger in a finish.
October 10, 2008 at 18:06 #184231I can’t understand any supposed criticism of Geraghty. Does he have a reputation that I’ve not heard about?
Always been a fan of the man myself – He’s a good talker off the horses and on the horses he’s always seemed to give the horse the best possible chance and looked strong in a finish – As people have said, his record speaks for itself.
I’m certainly a fan of Barry Geraghty.
Have no problems with Spencer either, although not particularly a fan of his riding style.
October 10, 2008 at 19:15 #184234Don’t know about that but it was a dubious outfit he had on for Arc day!!!!
October 11, 2008 at 03:15 #184311Always been a fan of both trainer and jockey. How on earth can anyone say that Geraghty’s bottle has gone. Anyone who rides in a novice chase has more bottle than the biggest brewery.
Jump jockeys are the bravest of men and women and Barry is among the best of the current excellent generation. As as has already been said anyone who has such a good record in the National has plenty enough bottle for me.
Comes across as a nice chap as well -never met him – who gives a good interview and Nicky Henderson likes his jockeys to be intelligent and good talkers – he had a champion in Mick Fitzgerald didn’t he. No doubt BG falls right into that category
