Well named Simply Brilliant does it again :yahoo:

Can’t wait to see all the new Frankel babes making their debut soon  who knows what’s in store for us Frankelfiles this season.

A really good piece here about how far Frankel is ahead of his peers as a stallion – http://jamesortegabloodstock.com

Hopefully that will continue this year…..

    MV,

You may refer to the link for handicapping system in HK.

    http://www.hkjc.com/english/racinginfo/handicap_policy.asp

For those having run outside HK, HKJC handicappers will decide the first rating themselves based on those performance.

Take Simply Brilliant as example (http://www.hkjc.com/english/pp_formsheet/fse_B090.pdf), he only won 2 novice stakes and the most impressive performance is the sixth in Britannia Stakes.

Seven Heavens is now also in HK. His first rating is 86. His best run is UK is 2nd in Surrey Stakes (Listed) (http://www.hkjc.com/english/pp_formsheet/fse_B089.pdf).

    86 is around mid-Class 2 and 73 is around mid-Class 3 in HK.

Hope this can help you understand rating system in HK.

Interesting read Joni, thanks for that. I agree that Frankel will continue to produce quality colts and fillies for many years to come and hopefully produce a few classic winners too.

Very nice maiden win for Rabdan at Saint Cloud today. The soft ground was obviously a factor but a 9l win and entries in the top Group 1 races suggest he might be decent… See for yourselves –

Impressive but as you say ground could have played a part and we also don’t know what he was taking on – he didn’t appear to have an action that would have been suited by deep ground and he looks a big unit as well so may could well improve through the season as he continues to strengthen up.

All I can say is  WOW
Rabdan left them all floundering, I loved his action, he looks big, strong and confident and Al Shaqab have a future champion on their hands.
Frankel is certainly turning out some quality progeny, he seems to excel in everything he does, a horse of a lifetime. :rose: Jac

I have a worry about Rabdan:

He jinxed in his last couple of strides. Because of the whip or small injury?

Is there any report on that?

He was very impressive :good: he may be like Cracksman who enjoys soft ground. On a side note, Elarqam was due to have a racecourse gallop at Pontefract tomorrow in preparation for the Guineas but the weather has put a stop to that, it would have been good to see if he’s trained on, fingers crossed he has.

I’d be very suspicious of the quality of that race.

It was Heavy ground and the race time was slow by 18 seconds. Rabdan had run before and recorded a RPR of 71, yesterday he made a step forward to a RPR of 88, which is roughly where I would expect a good two year old to run to on debut.

The biggest leveller on the strength of the form is to consider that the runner up Ziyad had raced last year on his only other start and was beaten 18 lengths by Pascal Bary’s Study Of Man when 11th of the 12 runner field, also at Saint-Cloud, in September.

It was virtually a two horse race today, judging by the betting, suggesting nothing else was really fancied and that it was a coin toss on the first two in the market.

Even giving Ziyad 27 lbs improvement from that debut run only leaves him on 74 on the RPR’s now.

This early in the season, running at 1m 4f on heavy is quite a harsh ask for 3YO horses. That probably ran like a Leger. I think some of these early season contests require a lot of care in trying to read anything much into.

Time and again the wide margin wins in deep ground prove to be very misleading.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Some good replies that made me smile as they are very reflective of the people writing them!! Of course I share Jac’s/Chaos’ enthusiasm and optimism but i’m also reined in by LD and Steve’s pragmatism. It WAS a modest contest run on atrocious ground so no need to get carried away. Still, he could only beat what was put in front of him and he did that in good style showing a nice attitude until, as Patrick says, those last few yards. Not sure but it looked like he was heading to the paddock… He is a huge son of Frankel who could well turn out to be a Leger type or even a Cup horse eventually. Promising anyway…

Reading today in the RP that Herculean might not be going to the Guineas as they really want to take their time with him and he is backward in his coat. They like him a lot but would be looking at Royal Ascot as an early season target.

Your absolutely right Joni, sometimes our emotions cloud our judgement, i got carried away when Without Parole won by 6L but as Steve said about Rabdan, what did he beat.

I’m still hopeful that this year will be a good one.

I read earlier in the year that Herculean was unlikely to run in the Guineas. To be honest, Roger Charlton is the wrong man to be sending horses to if you want to have any chance whatsoever of winning Classics. The races will be done and dusted before Charlton even takes the cotton wool off.

Considering the horses Charlton gets, he’s a huge under-achiever. I can only assume Khalid Abdullah likes watching well bred horses standing in their boxes at the stable.

I thought Veracious looked good on her second start last year and Stoute mentioned the Guineas as a possible after that cosy win from Winter Lightning. Stoute has had it lean of late but I hope to see Veracious in the Nell Gywn or Fred Darling and the hope is that she has had good progress over the winter. With Fabre’s Wind Chimes, they are my two main bets for the 1000 Guineas at 25/1 and 14/1.

Nelson is my main Frankel colt as a St Leger prospect. Aiden said in his stable tour that Nelson may get further than a mile and a half and he was the only colt to have that said about them. 33/1 seemed very fair at this stage.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

I see what you are saying Steve but then did Roger over-race Fair Eva? Or maybe it was just the wrong TYPE of race he ran in her in. Anyway she only managed the one run as a 3 year old so his experience with her would hardly encourage him to rush Herculean.

I also like Veracious and hope to see her in a trial but I think Aiden has an extremely strong hand in the 1,000 and Clemmie will take a lot of beating. Aiden was quite positive about Nelson in the TDN today and I think he is still a live outsider for the Derby as well as the Leger. He has a good form line with Saxon Warrior on his running in the Royal Lodge but is a lot bigger price. He was due to run in that Group 1 at St Cloud that got abandoned because of the nutty French trainers and I reckon if he had run then he would be a lot shorter for the Derby now. Like you say, he will almost certainly appreciate the extra trip and Aiden always said that anything he did at 2 would be a bonus. I would be surprised if he didn’t line up at Epsom in June..

    Rabdan supplemented for The Derby

Rabdan is 16/1 for the Derby with Ladbrokes. He’s won a maiden in gutters and is rated 88. 16/1 that’s sickening value and only an idiot would take that price.

French horses have a poor record at Epsom and everything about different ground, different course and tons to make up on ratings make him piss poor value, for the gullible and hard of thinking only.

Study Of Man pumped Rabdan up the proverbial outgoing passage by 18 lengths last year. He was already entered in the Derby but he’s 50/1 while Rabdan is 16/1. Sweet Jesus, Ladbrokes must have testicles the size of atoms if they are filling their knickers because Andre Fabre had a maiden winner.

I’ll pack it in if Rabdan wins the Derby.

    Saints preserve us.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
