Well i am working class and proud of it and where i live i see plenty of women whose going out outfit is a tracksuit and a pram who complain about lack of money but always seem to be smoking cigs which costs a few bob.
As for Shameless that is the most unrealistic programme on television and i think the actor who plays Frank is just someone trying to do an impression of Steve Coogans Paul Calf.
I myself do live on a council estate and at the races i mix with people who work in Manchester and Liverpool in high pay jobs and do not mock me for the fact that i work in a factory which is sadly full of money grabbing Slovaks who get far more money than i do due to claiming for everything under the sun.
But regarding the mother of Shannon she is just a hypocritical slag who has kids so she does not have to work and how on earth seven of them have appeared is beyond me as she is one ugly woman
April 13, 2008 at 19:41 #157687Flash, do you have kids?
Sorry, I just ask because if my kids were taken from me I would not care how obscene the media coverage, as long as I got them back.April 14, 2008 at 11:41 #157746I wouldnt be caring what anyone thought of me if someone took one of my kids.
April 15, 2008 at 13:23 #157896And they didnt care what the media (and public) thought of a cleared suspect either…
One thing that is very obvious, is that the Portugese police absolutely despise the Mccanns. Whether this is right or wrong or whether their handling of the case has been quite what it should be, im not sure, but i reckon the "40 questions" that the Mccanns refused to answer will be leaked soon enough
April 15, 2008 at 16:50 #157931I think any reasonable person would have to stretch their imagination just a little to think that the McCanns could have killed their daughter – whether accidentally or not.
The Portuguese Police messed up from the outset in their investigations – and are no nearer solving the case now than they were a year ago.

.
Why? It does happen you know. The West’s sexually abused theirs as well. When it comes to people mate absolutely anything is possible.
Not saying the McCann’s have or haven’t anything to do with Maddy’s disappearance (except for totally incompetant parenting), but I wouldn’t dismiss the possibility any more than I’d point the finger at them.

So, in other words, you’re keeping an open mind.
The Wests were psychopaths, therefore, to put them forward as an example (vis-a -vis the McCann case) is stretching it just a little.I believe that the Portuguese, in an effort to shed some light on what happened, have concocted some half baked theories, and have basically been clutching at straws since May 3rd last year. If they had any hard and compelling evidence against the couple, they would have brought charges by now, don’t you think?

April 16, 2008 at 09:57 #158060I think that it is beyond the comprehension of the Portugese people that parents would leave small children alone whilst they go drinking with friends. If the McCanns right from the outset had appeared to blame themselves more for what happened they would have received more sympathy from everyone. However, we all make mistakes, especially when it comes to raising our kids, and it’s a bit of ‘there but for the grace of God’ territory. What is terrifying is the thought that there are people out there watching and waiting for an opportunity to snatch children; look at the recent case in Newcastle where a child was taken from the bath in her own home. What a dreadful world it is sometimes.
April 16, 2008 at 10:42 #158071It is beyond MY comprehension that parents would leave small children to go drinking/socialising.
And, although nobody is perfect and we all could be better parents at some point, not in a million years would I contemplate putting my child in any potential danger so your "but for the grace of God" quote is slightly misplaced IMO.
April 16, 2008 at 11:34 #158079Spot on David – I would say it is beyond any sensible persons comprehension.
I think the McCann’s should consider themselves very, very fortunate they are not facing child neglect charges.
April 16, 2008 at 13:28 #158094When my son was young I was a few minutes late picking him up from a playing field not far from my house where, I thought he with a group of older, responsible children. I was never, ever late picking my kids up; in fact I used to wait with any child whose parent seemed to be late . When I got to the field he had been left on his own and was crying. Soon afterwards we had someone in a car try to pick up a child on her way to the local primary school [unsuccessful, thank goodness]. 20 or so years later I’m still angry with myself about that day. That’s why I say we all make mistakes sometimes.

I completely agree. Its about time people took responsibility for their own actions. Leaving a young child / children on their own isn’t a "mistake" its neglect and there really is no excuse for it.

I fully agree that everybody makes mistakes.
Just a couple of weeks ago my 3yo came downstairs with his clothes soaked. He said that he had been cleaning himself and me and my wife had a laugh because he looked so funny.
The he said he cleaned the telly as well! We raced upstairs to find pools of water on the carpet beside the telly. He had poured water over the telly and the DVD player and the Skybox.
If I’m honest, it’s irresponsible to leave a 3yo unattended upstairs but I’ve yet to find a parent who doesn’t do it.
Still worlds away from putting him to bed and going for a few pints down the local though.
