It sounds in extremely bad taste, but there is one plus point: watching it to the end is the only way the Portuguese Police are ever going to find out what actually happened!
January 9, 2008 at 23:09 #134353Is this something along the lines of OJ Simpson’s "If I did it" book?

January 10, 2008 at 08:25 #134379Am I the only one who his sick to the back teeth hearing about this bl**dy family?
I still want to know why they have not been prosecuted for child neglect in leaving the children alone in the first place.
January 10, 2008 at 13:23 #134431The "film" being proposed is a documentary film about the events surrounding Madeleine McCann’s disappearance – not a hollywood style feature film.
It is believed that IMG, the firm behind the award-winning drama-documentary Touching The Void, made the initial approach.

January 10, 2008 at 13:54 #134444I don’t understand any of this – what I really don’t understand is that I can’t feel any compassion for them; I can’t imagine anything worse than what they’re going through but I can’t empathise with them either…it’s all very strange.

Glad someone said this – I was wondering the same about myself Moe.
I can’t warm to the parents at all. I don’t say that to belittle what they’re going through or the almost surreality of the case and the ensuing media hype and now this film/documentary idea.
I personally don’t have kids and am younger than the McCann parents but I personally can’t imagine why you would take children that young on holiday to a foreign country if your intentions are obviously to go out and have dinner with your friends, so much so that you’re willing to leave them alone and just check on them sporadically.
Either take them and look after them or leave them at home and have some quality time as a couple, surely?
But as I say, I’m not married or a parent, so maybe I’m just speaking on the basis of theoretical ideals that I hope I’d live up to.
January 10, 2008 at 20:58 #134525I’ve got 2 kids and have just had my first grandchild and usually fall apart when I hear anything happening to children, which is why my lack of empathy is puzzling me – I dislike myself for feeling like this….or maybe when things like this happen we want the news to eventually peter out so that we don’t have to think about it any more, and we’ve been emotionally saturated with it?
January 11, 2008 at 06:54 #134563wonder if the mcanns will get a babysitter for the twins when they attend the premiere.
January 11, 2008 at 11:29 #134597stevedg wrote my first thoughts on hearing this.
apart from the weirdness of this ‘case’ if a film is made, with their approval using a sympathetic director, etc, how do you think the police and other suspects might be portrayed – as sympathetically as they would want themselves displayed ?
sounds like a minefield of twistedness to me
March 19, 2008 at 12:59 #7163The news that I heard was that Shannon had been found in a ‘divan bed, in a flat’ … it doesnt sound like the Step-Dad’s-Uncle’s-brother was after cash based on that statement.
Why would the fuzz, say she was found in a divan bed ?
March 19, 2008 at 16:52 #152604Yes, its all a bit wierd .. unlike the 3,000 or so British Asian schoolgirls that go missing every year. You dont see the cops dredging ponds looking for them, do you?
March 19, 2008 at 17:41 #152623I have to say that was my first thought too. Not very charitable of me I know…
March 19, 2008 at 18:57 #152643Shame the McCanns didnt offer a small some of their money to help out another family.
Bet there were annoyed when all the publicity turned to Shannon and what a coincidence just afters shes found they get Madekline back in the headlines

A shameful post,IMO.And I’m not talking about the awful grammar.
March 19, 2008 at 23:49 #152721I’ve been thinking: as Shannon’s parents are undoubtedly ‘a bit dodgy’… why don’t they give Shannon to the McCanns?
That way we can have TWO happy endings!

You think so – I think it is spot on.
People are quick to condem the parents and family of Shannon, however I would contest the McCanns are equally unfit parents – had they not left their children unattended to go off drinking and and eating with their friends then Madeline would not have been abducted – simple as that.
In my view both families have questions to answer.
