Anyone know why ATR aren’t putting up the replays on the website?
September 7, 2008 at 17:50 #179914Decent effort, nothing special.
Twelve furlongs is his trip.
September 7, 2008 at 18:58 #179922Im wondering whether he really is that good after all. Was this any better than newmarket and the derby form isnt all that
DOM would have won this easy today
September 7, 2008 at 20:26 #179940The furthest New Approach has ever won a race by was 3 lengths in the Futurity. He’s never won by far and was fighting Manning when he was trying to pull him up. He’s starting to look a decent bet for the Arc imo. I wasn’t really interested at 6’s but he’s a real e/w price now against Zarkava (who will also carry my money).
September 7, 2008 at 22:32 #179967Having watched today’s race I’ve come to one definite conclusion- I am now 100% convinced that New Approach isn’t straightforward. It’s told me nothing about his Arc chances, however, so I’m surprised (and probably slightly pleased) to see some firms ease him for the Longchamp race.
September 8, 2008 at 02:54 #179991Half a length? Serious?
I expect that he sat 2nd-last and strolled up to the leaders whilst on the bit, a few nudges over the ear and eased up quickly? No? A workmanlike victory?
Ladbrokes have some sense!
September 8, 2008 at 12:21 #180032Was very disappointed with New Approach yesterday. I expected him to win that by about 5 lengths going clear. It was clear to see from way out that that wouldn’t be the case. He never looked to be travelling that powerfully from a long way out. I thought pre race that he would destroy DOM and the field on his conditions, but having seen the race Im not 100% sure he would have, it was a depressing performance, which looked a long way from his guineas/derby form. Having backed him for the arc pre off, Im not that confident. Did bolger just not have him 100% (doubtful as he looked much more focused than in the international) or has his injury taken its toll?
September 8, 2008 at 12:50 #180034It’s interesting how people take so many different things from the same race. As I said before NA never wins by far so I wouldn’t be worried about yesterday if I was backing him for the Arc, in fact i’d be waiting for his price to drift judging by the general reaction and getting more on.
Don’t be so down beat Bully!! I think there is hope yet.
His sire was never spectacular, but was very difficult to pass. You can watch his old clips on the coolmore site. Galileo was a little more straightforward but he didn’t spend his formative year with a bell round his neck. That would be enough to drive anyone mad!!!!
September 8, 2008 at 13:06 #180040Hardly a breathtaking performance by NA against group 2 rivals. The firms take differing views on it as his price for the Arc is as low as 6-1 and as high as 12-1. I wouldn’t take 6s but 12s looks a good ew bet to me.
September 8, 2008 at 14:23 #180050Papal Bull got within a neck of the Duke so what is the big deal about Traffic Guard?
September 8, 2008 at 15:15 #180053Heffernan has won two classics this season. He’s a pretty able deputy.
September 8, 2008 at 16:53 #180067Papal Bull got within a neck of the Duke so what is the big deal about Traffic Guard?
Ability wise, Papal Bull is a genuine Group 1 horse.
Didn’t Michael Stoute say that he kept the horse in training to win a Group 1?
If anyone knows the time of day with an improving older horse, then it’s Sir Michael. If he thinks the horse is capable of winning a Group 1 that’s good enough for me.
A quirky character, but a vastly underrated one, in my opinion.
September 8, 2008 at 19:09 #180088Trainers always keep horses in training. That is their job. That is what pays the bills. How many group 1 horses does Stouty have at the moment in his yard? So he needs PB in training.
September 8, 2008 at 19:21 #180091A workmanlike performance. New Approach to win the Arc?
Erm, No !
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
September 8, 2008 at 20:41 #180104Probably foolishly, but I don’t have the concern about New Approach’s victory being less than spectacular. Who was he up against? Journeymen. Why have him take more out of himself than necessary on yielding going. He stayed on well, and the half length must have been reasonably comfortable, even though his training to settle, apparently, wasn’t in evidence.
He returned a speed figure of 126 over 7f as a 2 year-old and that is very fast, isn’t it? Twice More, who ran him to half a length, significantly, imo, hasn’t run since. He was lightly raced and may already have been bottomed (pardon the language). If the horse was nearly as brilliant, perhaps being nearly as tough as well, though not impossible, of course, would be improbable. I get the impression New Approach wouldn’t be far off Teofilo’s stature.
September 8, 2008 at 22:18 #180112That is how they describe The Duke. What exactly does everyone want each time a horse runs.Spoilt by Curling and Big Brown.Steroids anyone?
September 9, 2008 at 01:17 #180131I’m a fraction concerned about New Approach. Ok he won on Sunday but he hasn’t reproduced his Guineas or his Derby running IMO this despite settling better and being raced more handily. He’s run a good four or five pounds below his classic form.
Not too sure exactly what to make of him at the moment. I don’t think he’s incapable of winning of an Arc but he’s not in the form to do so at the moment and I’d prefer to be looking at Zarkava and Soldier Of Fortune.
