I had one but not the other, still it looks like I’ve turned the corner with my poor run of firm, nice double from Aiden Coleman at Worcster 8-1 & 5-2

    Keep up the good work!

Thanks Ken, and right back at you. Bad runs are an element of the sport, as I only too well know!

The highlight of my two days in Galway was Endless Intrigue hacking up. I know a fella in the syndicate that own Swiftmarc and he’s been of alot of interest this summer.

Unfortunately both animals are going to be eating the dust of The Real Article tomorrow.

One or two factors are worrying me slightly…I was initially planning a hefty bet, maybe I still will.
    1. Why is he running in this race? I believe that running on the flat makes him in ineligible for the major Bumpers.
    2. If he is as good as he’s looked I wonder why he’s having so much recent racing while being unraced up to five? Is the plan to give him a break after thisthen go novice hurdling later in the year with something like The Supreme as his target, trainer says he jumps well.
    3. His first win looked very special and the time was quick but his last two runs tell us nothing, very slow times while kicking sand in the faces of poor animals.
    4. Why the jockey change?

Am I being unduly paranoid due to a bad run…mine not his? Maybe he’s this year’s For Bill, if so it’s a penalty kick tonight

I’ll do my best to answer your four questions but it’s only my opinion

    1) Here are the Irish rules regarding bumpers:

    I.N.H. Flat Races
    79. For I.N.H. Flat Races the following conditions shall apply :
    (i) The scale of weight for age shall be the same as that for hurdle
races as set out in Appendix 1.
(ii) A horse shall not be qualified to start for an I.N.H. flat race if:
    (a) It has run in a flat race or steeplechase.
    (b) It has run in a hurdle race as a three year old.
    (c) It has run in more than two hurdle races.
    (d) It has run in six or more races of any kind under the Rules
of any Turf Authority. This restriction does not apply to the
number of times a winner of an I.N.H. Flat Race or a N.H
Flat race run in Great Britain can run in I.N.H. Flat races.
    (e) It has won a hurdle race.
(iii) Qualified Riders under I.N.H.S. Rules may ride in all such races.
(iv) In a limited number of races such jockeys who have not lost the
right to claim an allowance will be permitted to ride without
penalty and with the appropriate allowance.

So it seems you are correct in that if he runs tonight he has ran in his last bumper. Strange alright. The plan in that case must be to send him over obstacles.
    November Handicap :?:

    2) I’d say they took there time with this fella. I’m a firm believer that there’s not a thing wrong with not running a horse until he’s 5 or 6, they’re stronger at that stage and can take training better. There may have been a few little setbacks with him perhaps, and they decided not to rush the horse. All just guess work tbh

    3) He has had alot of recent racing but as you say his last two runs have just been days out 8)

    4) Dunno tbh. Mikey’s been lucky enough to have had a couple of big wins recently andlooks to be fast becoming one of the better amateurs out there.

    €40 win Thec Real Article @ 2/1.

4/5 without the fav was tempting I must admit.

I’ll have to stay loyal to my old pal Fleeting Spirit in the Nunthorpe, €10 e/w @ 8/1

Taking the Rite Of Passage route!

I’m in total agreement about giving a horse time, I just find four runs in mid summer out of keeping with that policy.

    Very true

    4) Dunno tbh. Mikey’s been lucky enough to have had a couple of big wins recently andlooks to be fast becoming one of the better amateurs out there.

I’ve no problem with the jockey, just seemed strange especially as he looked to have given the horse a superb ride on his debut.

Made up my mind 95% when out with the dog, your confidence swung me the extra 5%, just went to have £250 to win, but he’s a non runner :(

Blast it anyway! Endless Intrigue should dismiss the rest imo, although End Of The Affair is also quite interesting. I’ll probably leave the race alone now. Seemingly withdrawn because of the ground, which is strange considering it’s described as Good :?

I’m sweating on a double with Unaccompanied, suberb bit of front running by Pat Smullen, trapped the AOB horse on the rails then quickened clear

Endless INtrigue struggles to overwhelm Swiftmarc, and was probably helped by the fact that Helen Mooney dropped her whip. SP 9/10

    + €47.50

Strongly fancy Glor Na Mara today. He has proven he’s among the top 2yo’s. Pathfork will need to be as good as Zoffany and Strong Suit to beat him, maybe even better. Glor Na Mara is obviously highly thought of as he’s been backed off the boards on his previous 2 runs. Today all the money has been for Pathfork but he’ll need to be a very high class colt to justify the support. I’d expect the money to come for Bolger’s colt closer to post time. €20 win @ 6/4

How good is Duboyne Express I wonder?

Didn’t see the race today but over the years I’ve found it impossible to make money on 2-Y-Olds, too many sudden improvers, dark horses, morning glories, they are immature babies really.

BTW. Have you checked The Fermoy Race at Cork tomorrow?
