I’ve got quite heavily involved on Capri each-way at 4/1.
The Irish Derby winner should relish everything about this race and on paper is clearly the best horse in the race.
I’m quite confident.
September 12, 2017 at 16:05 #1317380Form of the big four make this a well up to standard renewal. However, am quite interested in the Coolmore second string Venice Beach. Chester Vase winner in April and therefore thought of as a staying type; half brother to Arc winner Danedream and by Galileo. Finished just a length behind Shakeel and Permian in 12f Grand Prix De Paris and Ballydoyle’s representitive in what’s usually their favoured St Leger trial – Voltigeur. 6 lengths behind Cracksman, but beat the rest by that far and further. Soft/Heavy would be a little disconcerting, but has form on good-soft and an added stamina test soft brings could even suit. To me, has always looked one that will improve significantly once upped to staying trips.
Taken 12/1 each way Venice Beach
Value Is EverythingSeptember 12, 2017 at 19:28 #1317408I’m not as confident in Glencadem Glory after his Ascot race.
I backed coronet when she won at Ascot as well as when beaten in the Oaks and I think she’s a good bet here at 14s
Them two will do for me
Gwaaarnnn the filly
This step up in distance will suit my filly down to the ground. I can see her slowly closing them down all the way from 3f out to the line. Just hope the jockey times the run for the finish well.

Dont understand why it isn’t clear favourite. Clearly the best horse on form and if we think he will stay the distance he’s the one to be on. Only issue is the horses interrupted preparation.
September 12, 2017 at 23:58 #1317431Looking down the betting, Capri hasn’t ran for two months. Crystal Ocean isn’t sure to get the trip. Defoe I like, but I’d want plenty more points on his price. Stradivarius I rate, and if he drifts a bit further I’d be very interested. I don’t think Coronet wants soft ground, nor is her form particularly appealing. Raheen House I’m a big fan of, but he hasn’t ran for two months and doesn’t have the level of soft ground form I’d be after.
REKINDLING at 13.00 takes my eye. 5 lengths behind OOSG suddenly doesn’t look too bad in terms of form, he’s Officially Rated 114 so right there in the mix, and he will love the ground and trip.

Hi GT, just wondering if you’ll be tipping every day during St Leger meeting?

I’ll be trying to find something every day, Mtoto. Isn’t easy, as the start of this meeting is pretty poor these days. I’ve started a thread in DLAP called “Donny”.

September 13, 2017 at 13:12 #1317482Don’t really rate Capri (others have said crystal ocean a suspect stayer but Capri also not certain to stay imo) and Defoe a high class handicapper for me.

Be interested to know why you believe this, Judge?
Value Is EverythingSeptember 13, 2017 at 14:21 #1317490Capri and douglas macarthur e/w at 40/1
Really like stradivarius and on better ground i think hed win but if it stays as soft/heavy as predicted i dont like any of the others bar the obrien runners
Defoe has much to prove from his last race and i dont think i would play at the prices although i had previously considered it because he seems to be improving, but his last win was still suspect enough to talk myself out of backing him, although, atzeni at doncaster…….
Crystal ocean hasnt done nearly enough and i think his price is terrible value
The rest im not interested in whatsoever
September 13, 2017 at 14:42 #1317494Just a feeling I have ginge… think Capri was lucky to win that Irish derby Cracksman would have won with a better ride, ok the the form has worked out but there’s nothing he’s ever done which has blown me away.. I could say that about the whole field but for Crystal Ocean, who last time looked like a top class animal, ok he might not stay but I’m happy to roll the dice at 4-1 against a bunch of plodders.
September 13, 2017 at 16:50 #1317513I don’t know the prices (can only lay on the tote from Denmark), I would go for win & place on the Frankel son Count Octave:
A 2-y-o debut 3rd to Monarchs Glen, a 3-y-o debut win, then just 5 lengths of Venice Beach in the Chester Vase(Gr.3), a Month later beaten a neck by Stradivarius in the Gr.2 Queens Vase, the a 1st miss when 2nd as favourite at Goodwood, but had obviuosly not been at his best, when NR in a Gr2 three days earlier, won by Arc possible Cracksman.
This will only be his 6th run so far. I believe he’s improving the right way, if he is back to the same soundness that saw him finish 2nd to Stradavarius. My other horse for win & place is described well elsewhere. Rekindling, and he could bag it for young O’Brien.
Best Wishes
SilkSeptember 13, 2017 at 18:42 #1317529I’ve joined Raymo and KS with a sporting bet on Count Octave in the hope that Frankel’s good autumn can continue. Soft ground, 1m6f….it’s nearly as good as the jumps

Just got this on twitter https://www.timeform.com/horse-racing/features/lynch/st-leger-preview-count-on-frankel-1392017

SilkSeptember 13, 2017 at 19:57 #1317541I’ve not invested in Count Octave yet. Not because of form or price, just connections are of the opinion he’s not at his best on soft ground. Been a non-runner/avoided it previously and am concerned he’ll be taken out if it’s soft. I’ll wait for day of race or NRNB.
Value Is EverythingSeptember 13, 2017 at 20:54 #1317546I am getting increasingly confident about my Venice Beach bet and for a mainly small time punter, and habitual loser, he would dwarf any decent winner I’ve ever had before. I feel compelled to have just one last go, and now that Stan James have pushed him out to 50-1, I cannot resist a few pounds each way on Douglas McCarthur.
