In my opinion the best he ever had; biased, because I was on-course for both Wayward Lad’s wins in the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby and his superlative jumping left a lasting impression which kindled my enduring passion for steeplechasing, as prior to that my interest was pretty much only the Flat.

I’m not convinced that Wayward Lad was even the best jumper of a fence that Dickinson trained: The Mighty Mac was something else.
