Stretched with various commitments at the moment, among other things supporting my wife on a North East Scotland tour in her role at Rotary District End Polio Now Officer, so updates might be sporadic for the next couple of weeks. I’ll endeavour to do figures for the Class 2 events as a minimum.

Kelso run a Class 2 hurdle on Wednesday, though sadly I can’t make it as Aileen has her hospital checkover before the knee op is confirmed. also a very decent renewal of the Kerry National at Listowel was worth a look.

A bit frustrating in the Bronze Cup with top 4 NR/3rd/2nd/4th, beaten by one who was held in a weaker event at Musselburgh last weekend. Aconcagua Mountain won on Thursday, right horse on the wrong day as he was my nap last Saturday!

Back after a hectic tour of Inverness and various places nearby. Delightful area and if anyone is staying up there they could do worse than the Glen Lyon Lodge Bed and Breakfast in Nairn.

Just managed to get some figures done for today though had to concentrate on rating the front of the market, particularly with the Cambridgeshire, due to pressure of time. This does rather follow the original method which advised rating hte first 6 in the forecast, more I suspect due to the complciation of working out ratings from the Handicap Book or Racing Calendar in those days.

Results not too bad since my return from the break. Didn’t have it top but keep an eye out for Botanical in big handicaps around the 1m 2f mark next year as he scooted away from some established performers at Hamilton. Looks to me in the paddock as if he still has a bit of growing to do and wouldn’t surprise me if he’s stronger after another winter behind him.

My autumn return to Kelso is delayed once again as Aileen is due out of hospital today following a knee replacement. Should be able to get down to the borders at the end of the month. A decent contest for the Simply Ned Chase with Tommy’s Oscar top rated and stable seemingly much farther forward this season suggested by a winner at Hexham, presumably the work rider shortage they were struggling with last autumn has been resolved.

    SUNDAY OCTOBER 8

    Kelso
    3.30 Tommy’s Oscar 153; Malystic 151; Cedar Hill 146; Gold Des Bois 146

Typical ‘end of season’ Leicester meeting tomorrow with plenty of runners. Perhaps not the field sizes of ‘days of yore’ but plenty competitive and one race concerns this thread.

    TUESDAY OCTOBER 10

Small fields today which doesn’t give much room for expoloiting value. Volcano goes well off a break and looks to have strong chance in the 5.05 at Ludlow.

    Ludlow
    3.20 Inishbiggle 137; Sure Touch 133; Petrastar 130
4.30 Voice Of Calm 127; Police Academy 124; Regal Renaissance 122
    5.05 Volcano 151; Topofthecotswolds 142; Le Cameleon 130
