Getting the figures done in between ‘nursing’ duties as Aileen is now out of hospital after her knee op. We have a meal out with the Rotary Club at the end of October which is the ‘target’ for her recovery. After that look out for the attempt on Fife Over 70s 100 metres record!

A busy day today with National Hunt cranking up the power at Chepstow and decent flat cards. York finish with a flourish for what would have been a freebie for me under different circumstances, but hope to get down for the same meeting in 2024. A well exposed bunch in the 5 furlong sprint and it could be an opportunity to add to his impressive tally at York for Copper Knight. Nothnig progressive to worry about and we know he runs his race whne he hits the Knavesmire.

    FRIDAY OCTOBER 13

Sturday figures done and, with a whole summer of form behind them, the handicapper has many well covered. Two big field races tomorrow about as tight as can be.

Coral Sprint Trophy (York 2.25) – Whole field bar 2 within 8lbs on my recent form figures (and Rousing Encore is top on ‘overall form’ and now tried in a tongue-tie!), so the nearest thing we will get to equine bingo!

Cesarewitch (Newmarket 2.40) – There have been a few outstanding Irish runners in recent time, but the Irish runenrs seem all on a level this time round, though a win is strongly possible by dint of them being mob handed this year. 10lbs covers all bar four here, but ground could be the key as it has changed significantly overnight.

Rushing around a bit to keep this thread up to date, but see below for todays’ ratings. If there is anybody still reading this cr*p after 3 and a half years well done and hope you are finding the odd winner or two. Not had a pile of top rated winners of late but quite a few ‘in the mix’. 2lbs cover the field in today’s 4.45 at Goodwood, so best of luck with that one!

Not top of hte ratings but I thought Nemean Lion was a decent looking sort when he appeared in the Kelso Premier Hurdle in March. By Golden Horn out of a German mare, so stamina should be a problem and Fofs Las in the soft likely to suit in the Welsh Champion hurlde. Hands up those who remember this as part of the Easter Monday wall to wall racing programme back in the day. winenrs included Persian War, Bula, Comedy Of Errors, Lanzarote, Night Nurse, Monksfield and Sea Pigeon.

Aileen’s recovery continues, now a bit more mobile, and her friend is coming over tomorrow so I can get away to Musselburgh for my 100th visit to the track.

    SUNDAY OCTOBER 15

    Ffos Las
2.45 Beau Banko 139; Out Of Office 138; Cruz Control 138
3.20 El Muchacho 151; Anyharminasking 148; Strong Leader 141; Faivoir 141; Nemean Lion 141; Gin Coco 141; Carbon King 141

    Goodwood
    3.00 Spanish Star 96; Treacherous 96; Indian Creak 94; Crazy Luck 94
    4.45 Grey’s Monument 104; Darkness 104; Thunder Ball 103

A fillies handicap to look at for Musselburgh. Iain Jardine’s Irish import Sibyl Charm is interesting off the back of a 5lb drop and a decent run at Listowel two runs ago which has been franked and was run in a decent time (assuming the Listowel measuring wheel is accurate!). On the down side she has a break of 103 days to overcome so I will be looking at her in the paddock before risking a bet.

    MONDAY OCTOBER 16

    Musselburgh
4.10 Sibyl Charm 98; Shades Of Summer 91; Rock Melody 91; Mersea 89

Newcastle card a very decent Class 2 handicap at 4.55 today, unusual for a quiet Tuesday and presumably likely to be run in front of two men and a dog as the support card hardy captures the imagination.

Nemean Lion did the job nicely at Ffos Las on Sunday and looks one to take forward.

Sibyl Charm was possibly a little unlucky not to finish closer at Mussleburgh, being denied a run and then no time to recover. Probablydn’t have got a blow in at the winenr, but ahs ability and a possible winner for the future.

Saturdays Ratings below. I haven’t done anything for Doncaster yet there’s an inspection at 3.30pm today and I assume it will be off.

Much earlier start than originally planned at Kelso, so it will be a bit of a dash from Dunfermline for the 12.54 as I can’t get away until 11am due to Rotary commitments. That said, please support the Rotary End Polio Now campaign if you are able. My wife is this year’s North Scotland District End Polio Now Officer for the campaign and we have a ‘Walk A Mile For End Polio’ event tomorrow morning. Polio remains endemic in two countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan, where serious efforts are being made to eradicate this horrid disease once and for all.
