out of that race i would not touch the also rans.

Applying the same logic to last year’s renewal (run on similar ground) would have had you dismiss Dylan Thomas.

Speaking of Dylan Thomas reminds me of this quote from earlier in the thread:

"I generally am not so much of a fan of horses that take their stamina from their dam-side (they do pay off sometimes and I will make exceptions from time to time, but not enough so i have a general rule against them)"

So presumably against all Danehills running over further than a mile then?

Bloody hell, can someone get Bulwark a ‘Quoting Posts for Dummies’ book asap!!!

Bulwark – so what HRE has run so many times? Very often his 2yos do.

    RoG – 7
Oratorio – 7
GW – 5
Horatio – 5
One Cool Cat – 5
Johannesburg – 7
Yesterday – 6

And as for your ‘October’ theory…

    High Chaparral (Sept30th)
Galileo
Kris Kin
High Rise (November!!)

Horses that have won the Derby in the past 10 years after having September 30th/October/November debuts.
Alamshar debuted on 26th September as well.

Btw, someone said you’re in danger of taking my stop…you leave my spot alone!!!

    Seabird
Scobie remarked that it was the only time a jockey was jocked off after winning the Derby. He went so wide after coming around Tattenham corner that some thought he was going to lose contact with the rest of the field. He made up the ground running on his own to win as expected joining the field in the last half a furlong. Forgive me if this sounds like folklore rather than history since I am writing from memory–the worst way possible to write history. Don’t hesitate (The Derby was on BBC that year)to correct me and refresh my memory if you can access the reports of the race.

Well, like I say, I will make exceptions and I do think think 1m2f is well within the scope of a danehill out of a stamina mare and so I use the term loosely, because it is more complicated than that as you probably know, and yes I have said I would like to see GW in the breeders cup classic.
But when you step up to1m4f obviously this is dependant on class, eg I would have backed Dylan Thomas to beat Mountain, but on the other hand I wouldnt back him against Motivator, Hurricane Run or Scorpion. Are we now going to start comparing form of those horses.
I generally find that at 1m4f and above you have to bet on a horse with Stamina on their Dam side but at 1m4f I dont like, because they will have passed their sires distance, but at 1m4f I will always prefer a horse from a middle distance sire and a speedier mare, obviously Hurricane Run, Scorpion, Yeats are exceptions to this again and so this is very complicated. So to cut a long story short I will never back a Danehill, Danzig, Storm cat, Giants Causeway, Mark of esteem or RoG to beat a good Montjeu in race which will test their stamina, and then again where as Hurricane Run beat Westerner in the 2005 Arc, Westerner beat Motivator and Scorpion but then again I wouldn’t have bet on that to happen.

Also, if you grade o’brien on the breeding of what he’s actually got sat in his stable hed win everything all the time, but you have to grade his stable on what sees the track (a look at his actual stable inventory would be very misleading, in terms of looking at racehorses, and trying to distinguish them from his very expensive, well bred, cart and plough horses), out of what o’briens brought out so far Ive seen loads of RoGs and I’ve not seen a decent one. Now Saddlers wells horses (like galileos and Montjeus) wont usually be seen to their best till 3 but you would at least like to see them show some sort of sign at 2 (Galileo although seen late at two was very impressive when he was seen at two, so too High Chaparral) (also when was the last time O’brien brought out a decent Saddlers Wells- Yeats (and arguablly the ill fated Gypsy King)). Storm Cats and Danehills however are almost always early progressers and so where are all these horses? Ive seen Brave Tin Soldier, Faccetti and Naigani, then HRE, other than that hes been bringing out RoGs all over the shop, Red Rock Canyon, Duke of marmalade (feel free to correct me if hes a danehill), Eagle Mountain, Theann etc (I cant get onto the RP site at present to get a full list). Are we to believe that he can get something else ready for the guineas, or is it more likely to be HRE and a load of RoGs (which he seems to have no shortage of going by what ive seen).

I reckon I can sit and argue all day over the reasons why either Teofilo or Authorized are very likely to win the at epsom, and I dont doubt that you everyone can sit and sift through history to tell me why neither will (as I tend to do most years, when trying to find an underrated superstar) but I am quite content that it is far more likely than not that one of these horses will take the derby, if getting there uninjured.

Im sure that you are not content of that, but think to yourself, are you possibly talking yourself out of a good bet, if you are happy that you are not then so be it, good luck in finding one to beat them…

I’m certainly beginning to wish something else had won the Racing Post Trophy.

The problem is, Bulwark, that you appear to have no sense of perspective about these two horses. They both have perfectly respectable prospects of winning the Derby but your use of phrases like "almost certain" and "far more likely than not" simply demonstrates that you don’t understand the meaning of the words you are using.

And your suggestion, on page 4 of this thread, that "we have never seen a horse like Teofilo before" suggests to me that you’ve not been following the sport for long.

"we have never seen a horse like Teofilo before"That could be true depending on who "we" is.For those who didn’t see the horse does he have 5 legs and 3 ears?

I don’t think the amount of ears matters as far as classics are concerned, for the colts five legs is ok as long as it has two of something else ;)
