i would judge him on his run behind teofilo at the curragh in august which was on good/firm ground his form on that run and the champagne stakes stands up well

Quote: from guskennedy on 9:18 pm on Oct. 18, 2006[br]The official going last time was "soft to heavy".
He might have been motoring late on at York but not fast enough to win the race. That’s my point.<br>
Gus<br> It might be worth pointing out that a turning 7f at York poses nothing like the test that the straight mile at Newbury sets.<br> The going also looks unlikely to be as fast on Saturday as it was at York.<br>Good thing, imo.
October 19, 2006 at 10:17 #80223The time suggests Eagle Mountain isn’t flattered by his Beresford effort either.
October 19, 2006 at 14:13 #80224Doesn’t O’Brien tend to win this with a less fancied runner? Just trying to remember in my mind, but I’m sure his second string normally ridden by a jockey not associated with the yard tends to beat better fancied odds-on runners.
Certainly looks a decent race, and Regime seems to be one who looks set to run a fair race. Beat Finescal Beo a long way in the Goffs Million on the same side
October 19, 2006 at 15:28 #80225o brien has 4 runners but none of them should beat eagle mountain high chapparal was the 2nd string when he won in 01

Considering that you contributed to a thread on the very subject of the times at The Curragh that day, DJ, I’m a bit surprised that you accept the time at face value.

October 19, 2006 at 16:54 #80228according to the weekender racing paper the time was so good it had to be verified

October 20, 2006 at 07:53 #80229With Newbury today already abandoned, it’s clear that tomorrow’s race if it’s run at all will take place on heavy ground which is clearly going to suit Eagle Mountain more than most. I still wouldn’t touch him with a bargepole for any of next year’s classics with the possible exception of a heavy-ground Leger.
October 20, 2006 at 20:46 #80230It will be a question of how far the horse wins….absolute penalty kick.
October 21, 2006 at 14:28 #80231Destroyed them at 25s, definitely a horse with a future,if theres one that could possibly trouble Teofilo in the derby its Authorized, personally i reckon it’ll be tricky, Authorized will certainly see out the trip but we won tknow if teofilo will until the day if he goes for the guineas as a trial.

<br>Way over the bar. ;)
October 21, 2006 at 14:35 #80233Well done Bulwark – that was a fantastic spot. I am completely in awe.
October 21, 2006 at 14:58 #80234Brilliantly unearthed Bulwark. Full marks to you.
Aidan – always dangerous to go too far OTT, as I’ve found out myself in the past! Always another day, for both you and Eagle Mountain.
October 21, 2006 at 15:39 #80235Well done to Bulwark for his selection and gus for his views before the race. Also well done Mortisha for your wonderful after timing.
Favourite was disappointing, thought he was coming there to win it but just kept plugging on on the far side. Plenty seemed down beat about the winner due to his price but I was pretty impressed. Travelled well and picked up nicely. Looks a grand stamp of a horse too with plenty of improvement next year likely.
October 21, 2006 at 15:42 #80236Nice of Frankie to help Montjeu to another 2yo Group 1 winner ;)
I expect a bid from Sheikh Mo isn’t imminent?
