This year’s renewal seems more than widely open.
Are novices allowed to run the Champion Chase?
If yes, what’s the point of running the Arkle if the horse could straight win the Champion Chase?
I mean, I really would like to see

    Ptit Zig

    in there, let alone

    Un de Sceaux

. Both horses have been definitively the most impressives of the season so far in the 2m division.

Would be very ‘un-Mullins’ to run a novice in this race, not least a horse he has been at pains to look after. Arkle the right race for him anyway imo.

I trust your views about Sprinter Sacre are completely grounded and unbiased, KingSprinterSacre.

Steve, I took the opposite view of Mr Mole, despite what happened. He travelled with real enthusiasm. He’ll want to jump better at CHeltenham, but he hacked up today with some very tired horses behind.

!6 with Betfair is excellent value imo

SDG will not relish going to Cheltenham with such a horrible fall on his mind

I still don’t trust the Mole Joe.

I thought it was a two horse race today, with Uxizandre having had two pretty poor runs already this year and looking like this trip isn’t really his game.

The way the race panned out it was always going to look a great win for Mr Mole but I’m not convinced.

The race is cutting up into a crocks vs rogues (ex-rogues) special edition and it’s hard to be confident about anything really.

I’m not sure Sprinter Sacre winning without having to be anything like the horse he was does a lot for the quality of the division. I was hoping to see him and Sire De Grugy coming into the race looking something like their best but that’s not going to happen now.

I far prefer Dodging Bullets to Mr Mole and I’m not sure 16/1 is value.

The name is Caution for a reason, I wish my jumpers would exercise more of it over their fences

Sire De Grugy’s nerves seemed shot to bits after his first mistake…I know mines were!

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Sprinter Sacre will win again I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.

Off the course for 300 odd days runs a blinder in a Grade 1 on return has about three pounds to find with the winner Dodging Bullets. No-one in the world can tell me the horse won’t improve AT LEAST half a stone for that run, shaking off ring rust. Geraghty won’t hold onto him at Cheltenham, the ground will be a bit quicker than it was at Ascot = all in his favour.

He might not reach the rating he once had but he still has pounds in hand.

    Bet of the year.

The more I look at this race the more I come back to the favourite. His second last time was smart. DB was never going away from him after the last. If SS is just fractionally improved for his, which he should be, he will go very close. No price but doubt it will change much so will wait until the day.

    haha

I just cant see how Sprinter wont find the necessary 3lbs improvement he needs against the seasons best 2mile chaser. Has a run behind him – will come on for it. Better ground, course form. I can only see one winner, bias or not! Nico told me he they could find the 3 lengths on dodging bullets and the camp was confident (barry says sprinter WILL win) and that it would be interesting to see what Sire could do. Sire de grugy has much more to find/improve now than sprinter does.

    He wont though,

    Dodging Bullets

shocked connections of your horse who expected victory last time out,he was fitter than people think. Those who say he’ll come on for the run have to realise that so too will my horse and granted genuine good ground ‘Dodging Bullets’ will leave yours standing. My lad again is a different horse to the one who was beaten in a ridiculously fast run Arkle last year,a time your fellow couldn’t match when an impressive winner of the same race in 2012.Some question my fellows resolve around Cheltenham in the spring something I dont think twice about as like I said,he’s developed slowly into the absolute beast he is today and his form screams 2015 Champion chaser..For everything positive about ‘Dodging Bullets’ profile, sadly ‘Sprinter Sacre’s’ is negative.Every fence he jumps there will be a question mark saying is that his last.No I’m afraid nobody will back ‘Sprinter’ until the day itself and that will be purely sentimental value.I hope your horse runs his race and finishes a gallant 2nd to mine..Forget this Mr Mole hype too he’s no danger.’Sire de Grugy’ aint no spent force though.Another cracking battle awaits.Good Luck to you.

The most dodging bullets can possibly improve is 2 or 3 pounds realistically.
Whereas sprinter sacre has ran to a rating of 163 and his best is 188?
There’s no way he will run to 188 which is what everyone seems to be fixated on.
The point is he will win the queen mother if he runs low 170’s which is extremely likely given. He will appreciate the ground more, he wasn’t given a hard ride and his fitness will improve and he has such a big margin of talent left that it’s well within his reach.

I wouldn’t put anyone off dodging bullets tho as it well help keep sprinters price better 8)

I believe that if Sire De Grugy had of got round intact that he would have won well.

I’m going to stick my neck out and say that SDG is the my most likely Champion Chaser this year.

I thought Sire De Grugy was going to win. Even after the first error, I felt he was getting back into contention.

The problem I have with him now is that, in the space of two fences, he seemed to forget how to jump. The first error was just one of those that you could put down to a mistake but the second looked like a horse who was suddenly afraid of the fence.

It may be that he’ll be fine but I am just concerned that his confidence might have been shaken. Even if he’s OK during the big race, how will he react if he makes a mistake in the future?

Sire De Grugy is in my Ten To Follow and I have picked him for the Pricewise challenge but I am very concerned after watching him come to grief on Saturday.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

I took 33/1 for Mr Mole at the weekend and I just hope he is confirmed and will ru n in the QM, also on Dodging Bullets so quite happy with my ante post on the race.

All along I went against Sprinter and SDG but it still seems a very open race this year.

I said before The Game Spirit that the trainer had stated that he expected Sire De Grugy would win and had to if he was going to be a contender at Cheltenham. Gary Moore expanded that the horse would come on for the race but was straight enough to go out there and win the race.

It was my hope that if the horse failed to fulfil the trainer’s expectations the handler would be honest enough to admit the disappointment, rather than see the Nicky Henderson style list of positives after having had a face like a bulldog licking urine off a thistle moments earlier.

Gary Moore duly trotted out a similar line to Nicky, adding, perhaps to convince himself as much as anybody, that "every horse is allowed one fall, aren’t they?", glossing over the howler at the previous fence.

It’s what we expect of course but it annoys and amuses me in equal measure when they put a political spin on things that David Cameron would be proud of.

Anyway, Gary Moore has now revealed that he was disappointed with Sire De Grugy in the Game Spirit and, in citing a similar scenario with the horse earlier in his career that also saw him jump without his normal efficiency, he seems to suggest that the horse wasn’t as forward as he though, or we, as potential backers, were led to believe.

With that in mind they are going to enter the horse at Chepstow next Saturday and if all goes well during the week he is due to run.

I am obviously hoping the horse is in better fettle now, and that another run can keep his Cheltenham prospects alive. At the same time it’s another lesson that we should pay little heed to what comes out of a trainer’s mouth in the build up to a race.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

It was said on C4 that he was out for the season. I originally heard he could be back for Aintree or Punchestown. Anyone know which is correct :?
