The horse seemed to have been sweating profusely – does this always happen on the racecourse?

Pretty much so. He got really warm and sweated up when I saw him at Hamburg, and he did the same at Baden-Baden and in the Abbaye, so I guess it’s just his way.

November 18, 2008 at 01:51 #190341Greetings to everyone from Hungary, Well, here in my country all people are just amazed by Overdose. As you surely know, horse racing here in Hungary is a joke, you can’t even immagine the situation. Actually, it’s dying. The goverment wants to sell the one and only decent ( decent in Hungarian terms ) turf in a few months to a real estate holding. If it happens there’s no point to talk about Hungarian horse sport anymore..
Hi Cassano, and welcome to the TRF! I spoke to the connections of Overdose back in July at Hamburg, and they mentioned about the possible closure of Kincsem Park, which is a real shame, but as you say, the government just don’t seem interested in racing at all. Fact is, Hungary, and Sandor Ribarski in particular, have got some decent horses apart from Overdose (Maribor and Boheme Wango come to mind), but these horses seem to run in neighbouring Austria, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. As someone who seems to spend most of their time somewhere at a racecouse in Germany, I also remember the last great horse to come out of Hungary. No, not Kincsem (I’m not THAT old!!), but the wonderful March Groom, who in 1998, wasn’t far away from winning the Grosser Preis von Baden!
I don’t know if you are informed that Overdose’s owner Mikóczy Zoltán has been searching the possibilty for a revenge with Marchand d ‘Or since the Prix de l’Abbaye and he was ready to go to Dubai or Hongkong for it but Marchand’s owners refused it. So, the season is over for Overdose as Mikózcy confirmed it yesterday in Rome where Overdose won easily with a huge advantage but with not really difficult opponents.
I thought it was a great idea by Mr. Mihaczy to offer the challenge out to the connections of Marchand Dor, but I think their paths will cross next season. Sandor Ribarski said back in Hamburg that the 2009 July Cup was the main target for next year, but I think Royal Ascot and even the Nunthorpe at York could be possibles. I’ve also heard that they are looknig at a couple of races in France, and one or two in Germany as well.
It’s a pity that Hong Kong and Dubai are no longer targets, but I’m really excited about next season, and although he’ll be taking on the best of the best, I’m still really confident that the ‘Bullet of Budapest’ will remain unbeaten!

How do you both feel about Freddie Head announcing Marchand D’or will go to Hong Kong and Dubai now?
Possibly a few clever tactics here from Marchand’s owners in ‘fobbing off’ Overdose’s connections when the challenge to race in Hong Kong/Dubai was put up by the Overdose guys so they didnt have to face him for another few months?
November 21, 2008 at 02:36 #190955I doubt it – its hardly a ‘match’ regardless.
What happened on Arc day was a real shame.
November 21, 2008 at 04:06 #190987Dubai? Have they added a turf sprint to the DWC meeting?
The Americans seem to have a mortgage on the Golden Shaheen.
November 21, 2008 at 04:23 #190993I think they’re going to run him in the Golden Shaheen.
Most of the good American sprinters seem to have been retired.

Well, there seems to be some sort of ‘double bluff’ going on, because Sandor Ribarski now says that Overdose was never going to Hong Kong anyway! Apparently, the decision was taken because they felt that a 12 hour journey would be too stressful for the horse. Personally, I say wait for next summer, maybe the Kings Stand, Golden Jubilee or July Cup. Then we can finally see who is King of the Sprinters!
