I actually saw thie video earlier today, and it looks really close, but I know that the connections of Overdose were informed by the Longchamp officials that they had broken the course record, so that did come from an official source. 54.14 was banded around by (I believe) a French journalist. Subi didn’t actually draw the whip on Overdose, and he let him coast up to the line, so I guess that had he been challenged, I think Overdose could have gone even quicker.

I’ll do a bit of asking around, and I’ll see if I can get an official time for the race yesterday.

Borderlescot didnt win the Nunthorpe, the gelded handicaper won a race at newmarket pretenting too be it, but he didnt win over the race over the york course and distant under group one conditions, thus he is not the winner of Nunthorpe. The idiots at Newmarket were too thick too find a flat five furlongs on the gallops, rail it off and run the race over it, that way we have gotten a race closer too that run at york. Sorry, i needed the rant.

Overdose won a division of the Abbye, why the conections didnt run him again and take home the cash god only knows, I think they should have done. Either way the Hungarian breeders wont give a toss becuse the French were being arsey sods, they have winner of europes top sprint when he retires their.

As for Hong Kong, two things the heat and the course, different from paris, the Dubai pln with that horses breeding sounds bonkers, better too sue france gallop then run the horse next year.

I dont know why the french rerun in properly in a fortnight and settle the matter properly, it woud be much fairer too everyone.

From that YouTube video i’d say Overdose wins by a ridiculously small margin.

If you place your mouse cursor on that edge of the grey block at the finish then Overdose wins my the slightest of margins

That is some rant yorkshirepudding when you recall that York itself hosted Royal Ascot at York in 2005 with all the original race names, and in 2006 hosted races called the St Leger and Portland Handicap which were even run over the wrong distances. My record book says Sixties Icon won the St Leger.

So Borderlescott won the Nunthorpe and would probably have won it lot easier if allowed to race on the bog that was York racecourse.

Despite your "gelded handicapper" slur you will probably find that Borderlescott goes on and wins more Group races. He has clearly got quicker as he has fully matured and gained muscle and power. It is a trend worth looking out for. In the last few years several sprinters have won Group Ones for the first time at six years old – Desert Lord, Les Arcs, Soldier’s Tale, Benbaun and now Borderlescott.

    halfway to heaven
I came to the opposite opinion about the split screen as per my timings.

Certainly neither horse looked to beat the time attributed to Habibti. However I believe it is a mistake to place too much significance on all this because Overdose raced on his own with an easy lead. We have no idea whether competition for the lead would have produced a better or worse performance. An easy lead is a big advantage to most front runners.

It is apparent that very few of the horses in the second race ran at or close to their best. Perhaps only Moorhouse Lad and Strike Up The Band ran to their best. Marchand d’Or and Rock Harmonie close to their best. The rest were either completely off form or had the edge taken off them by the void race.

Why was the Nunthorpe not run under Group 1 conditions?

Why was the Nunthorpe not run under Group 1 conditions?

I thought the same, you may as well question all the races transferred from York to HQ including the International.

Showed on CH4 this morning, Overdose knocking a stall’s handler over.

    Gave him a right knocking.

Well, after what happened today, I think we can see who the real star of European sprinting is!!

    http://www.ippica.biz/1/14_sch/14_cor_r … a=C&tit=RO – Premio Carlo E Francesco Aloisi-ex Umbria&vid=1

Thing is, Overdose is carrying 10 stone 3 lbs here, and the horse in second is Black Mambazo, beaten around 6 lengths by Marchand Dor in the Abbaye at level weights – he’s 10 lengths behind Overdose here, getting 8 lbs!!

Never mind, Overdose can win the Abbaye next year instead!!

Cheers for that Darren. This horse is poetry in motion and really needs the chance to show he’s the best. I hope he holds his form and cleans up the european division next year. I’m a firm believer in this horse being the best in europe, if not, the world.

What price did he go off at Darren? I really hope he does come over and take all the major sprint titles next year

He was returned at 1.40, which is basically 2/5 in English terms. I did read that the Dubai trip has been cancelled and the the main target next year is the July Cup, but Royal Ascot has also been mentioned, so hopefully, next year, British racegoers will finaly get the chance to see the ‘Bullet of Budapest’ in the flesh!

Possible Kings Stand/Golden Jubilee Stakes double do you think?

I’d really love to see him come over and do the double-Ascot attempt and then get the July Cup too.

I really think he’s capable. If he can handle reasonably soft ground too then surely an attempt at the Haydock Sprint Cup is a possibility too?

First of all, apologies, I posted an incorrect SP earlier – it was actually 1.50, which is 1/2 in UK money.

Soft ground won’t be a problem – today’s race was on heavy, and he won in a bog at Bratislava in June. He’s also won two races in 7 days (Hamburg/Bratislava), so he seems to recover quickly enough to suggest he could do the Ascot double. The other race I would throw in the mix would be the Nunthorpe. From what I understand, that’s it for this season now (no Hong Kong/Dubai trip), and next season, he’ll go for the big sprints in England and France, possibly having a couple of races in Germany as well.

    Greetings to everyone from Hungary,

Well, here in my country all people are just amazed by Overdose. As you surely know, horse racing here in Hungary is a joke, you can’t even immagine the situation. Actually, it’s dying. The goverment wants to sell the one and only decent ( decent in Hungarian terms ) turf in a few months to a real estate holding. If it happens there’s no point to talk about Hungarian horse sport anymore.
Then a horse comes from nowhere and beats all the big boys everywhere he runs. What about l’Abbaye, here all people are sure that Overdose could win it easily, not even Marchand could stop him it’s clear. Some people talk about conspiracy because it’s so strange that the gate didn’t open in one of the most prestigious horse race in the world. And lots of people put huge money on Overdose at great odds @10.00. I think who never had seen him before, including some bookies, just couldn’t immagine that a horse with such a pedigree and coming from an Eastern european country could beat all the big names. Hungarian experts on the contrary, they were almost sure that he could loose with nobody in Paris:-)
I don’t know if you are informed that Overdose’s owner Mikóczy Zoltán has been searching the possibilty for a revenge with Marchand d ‘Or since the Prix de l’Abbaye and he was ready to go to Dubai or Hongkong for it but Marchand’s owners refused it. So, the season is over for Overdose as Mikózcy confirmed it yesterday in Rome where Overdose won easily with a huge advantage but with not really difficult opponents.
