Thanks Istabraq
September 14, 2019 at 23:34 #1454966Thought it was going to be one of those days, with A Momentofmadness going so close in The Portland. He was a very nice return for me once again, but not much went my way after that.
The ew perms came in, and comfortably got me enough for a nice cup of coffee when I’m working tomorrow…… but not enough for a nice biscuit as well.
A few quid back on Anthony Van Dyck as well, after The Portland returns, and why he was allowed to go off such a large price, I have no idea. I have no idea though why I didn’t put more on.
Logician was superb, and if Buckhurst wasn’t going to win, I’m glad it was my old pal Norway that done him.
Reach Up was probably the only big disappointment, and he was a fair bet, with Machine Learner by all accounts missing out by the smallest margins. Langholm made the frame, but I stuck with him win only.
September 15, 2019 at 00:08 #1454970A long old week this, but happy to come out of Doncaster and Listowel ahead, and I can easily afford to have a go at The Curragh.
With Numerian, Latrobe, Soffia, and Caspian Prince, as per The Big Races threads.
In the opener, I just wonder if this just might be the day for that popular old campaigner, Gordon Lord Byron. I’ve been through my notes, and amazingly I don’t think I’ve ever bet him. I think he has a great chance at the weights of finishing in the six, and I took 25’s.
Fresh from his run on the beach, I’ll go with Twenty Minutes as backup, 33’s to six places.
In The Blandford Stakes I’ll take a chance that Loveisthehigherlaw can make the frame. Maybe pushing it for a win, but 16’s seems a fair each way price.

September 16, 2019 at 00:08 #1455113Great start to the day with Gordon Lord Byron, and still can’t believe that 25’s.
Wasn’t too bothered with the losing bets on The Flying Fives, or The Latrobe bet, as they were much smaller, but those Gordon Lord Byron winnings were swallowed up by Numerian.
Great week though, and come out in one piece, but yet again, those EW’s keeping me afloat.
Highlight without a doubt was that ten minutes on Thursday, with Von Blucher and The Ballyboys, and I doubt I’ll get 66’s again on Bally.
Definite few days off now until Ayr, but I’ll keep an eye on Princely Conn at Galway tomorrow. Nice sort on the comeback trail, and hopefully be of interest later in the year.
It’s a great wee Monday Card at Galway, and I’ll hopefully see a big run from Cesarewitch hope, Great White Shark.
Ayr up next, and I’m currently doing a rain dance for Dolphin Vista.

September 19, 2019 at 19:53 #1459011Yes, did you check the big races section?
September 19, 2019 at 20:05 #1459012Back to Monday, and Great White Shark wasn’t that encouraging, though I haven’t given up on her.
Thought I seen a bit of promise from Princely Conn, and he should have a race in him this year.
As mentioned to Darren, I’ll go with Tommy G and Paddy Power in The Ayr Bronze Cup.
Quite keen on the pair of them. Tommy G is solid as hell, and with him 9’s to 6 places, kicking myself at missing the 11’s, while Paddy Power is starting to look very fairly treated.
I don’t know if Keep Busy is as well treated in the 1420, but I do think that the 16’s to 5 Places is worth a pop.
I was reluctant to bet Fool For You in the 1545, but once I seen the 33’s, I thought different. Seen her run a few nice races, and can see her being competitive to 4 Places.

September 21, 2019 at 11:06 #1459239Really pleased with that yesterday, and though just the place returns again, Keep Busy & Paddy Power both ran big races, and weren’t far away at the finish. Particularly happy with the 22’s for Paddy Power.
Main bets today are Venturous in The Silver Cup, and obviously be betting in The Ayr Gold Cup. Definitely betting Barbill, but I’ll add a couple. Probably the smallest amount I’ve ever bet on this race, been such a hard race to read beforehand. I had two NR’s in Air Raid and Librisa, so I just can’t go mad. I’ll have three just for a bit of fun, and Barbill will be main hope. Still to finalise that list.

September 28, 2019 at 01:24 #1463196One of the best races of the season The Cambridgeshire, but I’m with two big outsiders, Nicholas T & Smile A Mile. I really think that Nicholas is way overpriced considering the year he’s had. Smile A Mile has a lot more to prove, and he was particularly poor last week. I liked him when the entries came out, and I’m hoping the step up in trip will suit, as well as the jocks handy 5lb claim. I’ve bet them up to 8 places.
In The Middle Park, at 16’s, I have to be with Lope Y Fernandez. Has to step up again from his G3 the last time, but I think he can, and it looks a fair EW Price.
Cracking hurdle at Market Rasen. I’m hoping ground is fast enough for Azzuri. The rain is a big concern though, and I haven’t bet him yet. If I do it will be to the 4 places. Gumball is another I like, but I’d have ground concerns for him too. Can’t possibly bet either of them just now.

October 1, 2019 at 17:56 #1463485Nothing doing Saturday, with Nicholas T, who was main bet of the day, never really threatening.
Only crumb of comfort was swerving Azzuri, as he drifted badly, and he’s always one to avoid when that happens, though I did chance Gumball.
October 4, 2019 at 23:49 #1463753I really like Scentasia for The Balmoral, but she’s out tomorrow, so a “wait and see” job. Think I’ll swerve her tomorrow, and see how she goes. In a similar vein, I’ll watch Donjuan Triumphant. I really like him as an outsider for The Champion Sprint, so a close eye on him. A good show tomorrow and I’ll bet him Antepost, but probably won’t do the same for Scentasia, as she’ll have other options, and I’d rather bet her for The Balmoral if she actually trapped.
Cracking card at Gowran Park, with The PWC Champion Chase an absolute cracker, but the big hurdle is worth a look too. Neverushacon is an obvious Each Way shout at 14’s, while is very interesting at 7’s, 8’s. Also in there is Roxboro Road. I’ve got this one down as a decent one for the future, and I think he’ll develop into an above average chaser. No idea what to do though, as I’ll only bet two of them, at the very most. Have to be careful, as it’s a deep looking race, and Mullins has some very promising types, particularly Suinda, so a real puzzle. I think I’ll just stick with Neverushacon five places. Some race.
The 1700 is a bit easier for me, and I think 20’s+ is enough for me to side with The Gatechecker each way.

October 6, 2019 at 14:24 #1463952Delighted with Billesdon Brook yesterday, and made a big difference to things. Challenge Cup became a free race too, so overall very happy.
Didn’t bet him, but Melburnain looks one to follow after his run in The Fillies Handicap, and just they type I like to have some fun with. definitely one for next year.
I’m with Mabs Cross 10’s in The Abbaye, and I’ve also, probably unwisely, went with El Astronaute 50’s+, and covered him to four places.
In the 1555, 16’s to four places seemed very fair for Pink Dogwood.
In The Horse and Jockey Hotel Hurdle, it looks a very strong renewal, I’m hoping that the principals could cut their own throats up front, allowing Plinth, to mop up second. Up against some very nice types, but I had to bet him 33’s Each Way.
The horse I’m really looking forward to today though is Champagne Classic. I’ve always been a fan, and I’m hoping he can justify favouritism for The National Hunt Chase. I’d maybe chance him for that this early, but I won’t be betting him unless any earlier returns. 4’s does seem big though.

October 7, 2019 at 01:52 #1465201Over the moon with El Astronaute today at the 66’s, and even happier with that top up, fair made a difference.
It pretty much went to plan with Plinth, and the 40’s was a bonus.
Off the back of Billesdon Brook yesterday, and Bigbadandbeautiful on Friday (mentioned elsewhere), really decent weekend.
With The Cesarewitch and Munster National on the horizon, I wouldn’t argue with a repeat, but we’ll see.
Hopefully nothing more till then anyway.
October 9, 2019 at 17:32 #1465461Well I didn’t quite make it till the weekend.
The Ballyboys back on the level tomorrow, and with Rachel Blackmore an eye catching booking, then I had to go with the 33’s, which looked far too big.
Also at Kempton is Chiefofchiefs, who I really like for The Balmoral next week, and I thought that 7’s was a fair win bet.
October 10, 2019 at 21:46 #1465547The Ballyboys was never put into it, and I can only assume that he was getting prepped for a future target over the jumps.
Chiefofchiefs Of was a lot better, but he just seems short of what I hoped from him. Still, if he did go for The Balmoral, I would no doubt give him one more chance.
Really decent few days racing ahead, but going to have to be selective.
I was really looking forward to Harrovian in The Old Rowley Cup, and I was going to have a good go on him, but as it is, he isn’t going, and thankfully only lost a few quid Antepost. I’m going to side with Skymax to the five places, and hopefully beat the 16’s, but he wouldn’t be as big a bet as Harrovian was going to be. Nice horse Skymax, but just a few questions tomorrow as well.
Also at Newmarket in The Fillies Mile, I quite like the idea of Boomer sneaking a place, and I took the 16’s. Pushing it for win purposes, as fav looks just a wee bit decent.
At York, in the 1620, I’ve went with Foolaad each way. He’s currently 18’s, and I’ve taken that, but I’ll take note if he goes bigger.
In The Persian War at Chepstow, I’ve liked Trevelyns Corn all week, but in the end I’m going to go with Some Day Soon each way, in The hope that he’ll cope with the trip. Can see him sneaking a place, and hoping to beat the 14’s.
Cracking Chase at Chepstow tomorrow, but I’ll no be betting it. The Young Master looks strong at 4’s, but it’s not big enough to persuade me. On a similar note, I think that Tiger Twenty Two, without being absolute top drawer, could be an interesting horse this year, and I’ll watch with interest at Downpatrick. He’s far too short for me though.
October 12, 2019 at 02:00 #1465652Decent start yesterday with Some Day Soon placing at the 14’s, while a very decent profit in running from Boomer.
I was never really “feeling” The Old Rowley Cup, after Harrovian missed out. Skymax ran ok, but just ok, and I should have left alone. If you didn’t see the York Race, then Foolaad ran a screamer, just missing out. If you did see it, then you will have seen just how bloody awful he was. Beaten after approximately seven yards.
The Cesarewitch takes centre stage today, and I’ve given my thoughts on the thread, as well as some of the other races.
Away from the big one, Growl gets another chance, he’s too big at 14’s+ ew, while I’ll bet Ropey Guest at big odds on the exchange, and I’m hoping that it’s soft enough for Dolphin Vista.
I’ll also chance Staged Engagement at 25’s+ EW at Fairyhouse. Superb card there.
October 13, 2019 at 00:42 #1467723Mr Everest did me proud today, biggest bet of the day, and though quite not getting there, I would have snapped your hand off for fifth before the off. Getting back all my cash, and a bit more, in running on Sneaky Getaway was a bonus too. Very happy with how that worked out.
I was just as happy with Ropey Guest at 50’s EW, and bigger EW on the exchanges, that was a great start to the day.
Ballyandy ran a cracker, and will be bet again, but Growl, Dolphin Vista, and Staged Engagement never really looked likely.
