raymo mentioned it and I missed his post about it.Other than that I would never have considered it so I won’t beat myself up too much about it.
March 17, 2017 at 01:11 #1292909And I ignored Noel Meades winner because he NEVER wins at the Festival…..

March 17, 2017 at 11:56 #1293020Outstanding Nathan, my kind of action…………..everything crossed for you mate

Thank you again for your IT assistance last night…………..but after all that, I have decided not to post it, as I don’t want to jink it, and I just know that if I did, one of the “lower” ones will win haha. I was also worried it would p1ss people off, and maybe the last thing they wanted to see.
March 17, 2017 at 12:49 #1293032Well, after Tuesday, and a day I’ll never forget on Wednesday, it was a bit tamer yesterday.
I didn’t bother in the end with The JLT, I was only going to be putting minimum stake on, and I just didn’t “feel them”.
On to The Pertemps, and Sutton Mannor 25’s, and The Tourard Man 66’s got me a nice few quid back, and kept me respectable on the day for sure. Presenting Percy was a cosy winner, and yet another great spot from Stilvi on this thread. Stilvi, I’m sure you won a few quid off of him, and more than made up for………….
….Empire of Dirt. After the amount of talk Stilvi and I have had over this horse, I really should have changed it from “Nothing Gained” to “Empire of Losers”. Empire of Winners would be a presumptious lol
I favoured The Gold Cup for him, stilvi was adamant Ryanair, but we both had interest for both races anyway, and in the end, it was an Anti-Climax. Great winner on the day, who I didn’t rate at all, and no real excuses. The Irish Gold Cup might have taken it out of him, but I’m just of the opinion that The Gold Cup was the call for him, and they got it wrong. Stilvi, if you are reading this, we’ll get our cash back at Punchestown, I’m sure of it.
I had no strong view on The Stayers, and no bet, and was gutted when Harry didn’t quite get there for BigG.
Now The Plate, aaaaaahhhh The Plate. I love The Plate, I shouldn’t bet on The Plate, we’ll leave it at that.
On to The Kim Muir, and let me just say, that yet again, it was a winning race for me from Doctor Harper, and I’m counting it as keeping my good run in the race going. I made a decent 3 figures on the race, all from laying the good Doctor. I was in an unbelievable position on him on a big treble, and I won’t say how much it was for. I was in bits before the race.
On to today…………
I have had a phenomenal week, I’m well ahead, and it will be a proper bet in each race.
Triumph
Not a race I normally spend too long on, but I’d say Soldier In Action looks too big at 28’s ew, and I’ll be happy to chance him at those odds.County Hurdle
Got Winter Escape 33-1 Ante-Post, and happy enough with that, but obviously in a race like this, I’ll be wanting another 7 or 8, but I’ll settle for another 2 or 3.Joey Sasa – Been watching this boy closely this season, and had a handicap in mind for him later in the season. I wasn’t convinced he’d end up in this, but happy to see him here. He’s got a few good runs in decent company so far, and trainer is fresh from handicap success here yesterday. He’s be my #1 for this now, and 28-1 with 6 places will do me just fine.
Court Minstrel – You could argue he’s regressing, but I’ve heard this said of him before. Ran a cracker off of 153 at Kempton in October, but now finds himself on 145, and on his favoured ground. I just can’t ignore him, and if he doesn’t win here, I’ll be sure to catch him at Aintree. 40’s win, and 33’s ew 6 places.
Boite – I’ve bet him many times before, and still not giving up on him. Ran well for a long way at big odds in The Betfair, on ground which would have been way softer than ideal, and with 6 places up for grabs here, I can see him getting there at 66’s.
Albert Bartlett
I went for The Worlds End at 14’s Ante-Post, and although happy with what I’ve seen of him, I’ll have a small top up on Monalee at around 7’s, as he’s always impressed me, and despite trainer saying he wouldbe trying to avoid Death Duty, he’s still up against him. I’ve taken both of these win only.Foxhunter
No strong opinion, but have a few pounds each way Ante-Post on Pacha Du Polder at 16’s. Pacha Du Polder is currently available at 22’s.Martin Pipe
I’ve went for Taglietelle each way at 50’s NRNB in this. To be honest he was a bigger fancy of mine for The Coral Cup, but if his withdrawal from that means that this race is the main plan, then I reckon he is a big price to places, considering previous Festival Form.I also had a go on I Shot The Sheriff at 33’s ew with the NRNB.
Taglietelle would be my main fancy at the moment, but one of those races where I wouldn’t mind being mob handed, and I’ll no doubt have more interest whether those 2 run or not.
Pleased that both of these have made it, but as I said, a race where I like to be mob handed, and I’ll have to add to this pair.
Tommy Silver at 25’s, or Doesyourdogbite at 33’s will be the selection. If I have any joy in the earlier races, I may just add the pair of them.
Grand Annual
I went for Sizing Platinum, and Bright New Dawn each way at 25’s, and happy to stick with the pair of them, though the fact that Bright New Dawn is now 40’s, means I have to top up.I’ll add one more, and the 2 that jump out are Rock The World, and The Game Changer, as I’ve bet them both many times, and I’m torn between the pair of them, and also these 3…..
Theinval 14’s
Pairofbrowneyes 25’s
Eastlake 33’sLast but not least…………..
The Gold Cup
As every other year, I have done my own “book” on this, and finally this year, I have cracked. Every runner is for at least £280 to me, and I’ll never manage it again. 8 of the 14, are for very, very decent returns. For the record, I think one of Djakadam, Sizing John, or Outlander will win.
The race is all about my Native River bet though. I put him up on my DLAP thread during Aintree last year, as something special, and said there and then, Hennessy Gold Cup/Cheltenham Gold Cup Double. I have him twice at 250-1 for The Double (I have cashed one out), and it seems like an eternity since I first put the bet up on here, and there wasn’t even a market formed for The Hennessy when I put the bets on. That went some way to me getting 250-1 I reckon. It’s been a long old road, and I love the horse to bits, but stable form has me terrified. I genuinely believe he is the best horse in the race, but I have to keep my feet on the ground, and I just hope he proves me right.
I was going to post screenshots of my books, but have decided against if for various reasons. As I said, they’re all winners to me today, and it’s a nice position to be in, but if Native can’t do it, then a victory for Champagne West, More of That, Saphir Du Rheu, or Irish Cavalier would be particularly welcome.
I’ve had a good old week, and I’ll be having a few decent goes today.
Good luck to all on Day 4
March 17, 2017 at 14:25 #1293065Course form course form course form; L’Ami Serge and my beloved Arctic Fire. I MUST be more organised with the previous placed horses stats.
March 17, 2017 at 14:33 #1293069We’ll get more organised next year Moe, and I’ll stick them up for you beforehand.
March 17, 2017 at 16:01 #1293095‘Checking to see if I’d had any bets today I realised I’d had a quick ew on Sizing John for the GC last night just in case it appeared that he did stay the trip. Doubt if I’ve got a nice priced GC winner on my hands but at least I’ve now got one fairly decent ante post bet to look forward to. VtC; as I’m so out of touch with racing at the moment I am depending on you having a working computer for Cheltenham’..and breathe…..![only thing that matters is Cue Card being ok though!!25/1….
March 17, 2017 at 16:37 #1293113Outstanding Moe, well done, I remember that post
March 17, 2017 at 16:54 #1293116Huge gamble on Champagne Classic in this one…
March 17, 2017 at 17:06 #1293120Blimey! Somebody knew something there…..
March 17, 2017 at 17:10 #1293123The certainly did Moe, wish I had been involved haha.
March 18, 2017 at 11:41 #1293334Am following a 7lb claimer who rides oop north; Mitchell Bastyon. 50% strike rate in chases; star of the future. Riding in the 2:15 at Fontwell today.
March 18, 2017 at 14:19 #1293381Tailed off, I think#backtothedrawingboard
March 18, 2017 at 15:01 #1293388Well, that’s Cheltenham over with for another year, and without dwelling on it too much, quite simply, it was my best ever, and I won more than double what I had won in my previous best year in 2012.
Lots of nice winners about, though probably no surprise that Tiger Roll, and Cause of Causes were the highlights of the week for me, and I’ve watched both races over and over again since. I’ll leave the talk of winners to a minimum, as nobody needs to hear too much Cheltenham talk now, but after 6 months hard graft of discussion and betting, it has to be touched on, so here were my winners for the record.
Supreme – Labaik 40’s
Arkle – Ordinary World ew 50’s
NH Chase – Tiger Roll ew 25’s
Pertemps – Suspasundae I/R 14’s, 16’s
Champion Chase – Sir Valentino ew 50’s
Cross Country – Cause of Causes win 20’s
Fred Winter – Flying Tiger ew 33’s
Pertemps – The Tourard Man ew 66’s
Pertemps – Sutton Manor ew 25’s
Gold Cup – Native River ew 33’s
Gold Cup – Minella Rocco ew 40’s
Foxhunter – Pacha Du Polder ew 16’sThese were on top of winning books in The Arkle, The Champion Hurdle, The National Hunt Chase, and The Gold Cup, and in The Kim Muir, I made a big profit laying Doctor Harper beforehand, having got into a “bit of a position” with him.
Now for the losers, of which, of course, there were plenty.
I had losing books in The Ryanair, and The Stayers.
Day 1 – No real heavy losers on Tuesday, though Holywell was a crushing disappointment, and he looks gone. Biggest loser on the day was Double W’s in The Close Bros.
Day 2 – The RSA was a disappointment for me, as I expected so much from mine. That finish though, that more than made up up for it, fantastic. If you had told me that Douvan would come unstuck in The Champion Chase, then I would have been fairly confident that I had the winner in Garde La Victoire. I didn’t though, and he was very very poor. I had far too much money on Imperial Eloquence in The Bumper, after a couple of earlier winners, and I was kicking myself afterwards.
Day 3 – Just ahead before getting out with a proper profit, thanks to The Kim Muir, and as per, far too much money wasted on The Plate. Disappointed not to have the winner of The Kim Muir, but to still escape with a profit in the race again was great. Empire of Dirt was letdown, and I just wish they had went Gold Cup.
Day 4 – Pacha Du Polder did the business for me at 16’s, but was quite a sore day. After being well ahead, I had bigger bets than usual/advisable on a few in the handicaps…………….and it did not go to plan.
Other observations……….I didn’t enjoy The 2015 Festival, as the Mullins dominance was tedious, but after the week I’ve had, I can a bit more comfortable saying it again about this week, as it won’t look like sour grapes. I enjoyed the first 2 days, as it was refreshing to see his dominance broken, but the second 2 days were less enjoyable as WPM came back with a vengeance. Nothing against the man, you just can’t knock his winners, though I don’t like his, obviously deliberate, cloak and dagger approach, though he is not the only one guilty of this.
Been a great week then, but it really is draining. I grew up with the 3 day Festival, but I don’t look at it through rose tinted specs, they’ve got away with it, and whisper it, but the 4 days is better.
Away from The Festival, still plenty to look forward to before we hit that rather difficult period between Punchestown and Royal Ascot.
Got my usual book running for Aintree, but to be honest it’s a rather grim looking set of entries this year, and as per, my hopes are pinned on Cause of Causes. More of That would be a welcome runner, as would Lord Scoundrel, Ziga Boy, and Doctor Harper. They’ve publicly stated that The Irish National is the plan for Scoundrel, but they’ve kept him in for Aintree, even though The Irish National is afterwards. I think that could be key, and I’ve topped up. Another horse I’m looking forward to at Aintree is Court Minstrel, and I could easily see him have one last hurrah, hopefully at a price.
Lord Scoundrel, along with Fletchers Flyer, has been bet for The Irish National as well by myself, but I would really like to see General Principle go here, and I’m on at 33’s. He’ll have to improve for last weeks run. Another horse who could be interesting in Ireland is Bachasson, and I think he’s a star in waiting.
I’ve got about half a dozen I’m looking forward to seeing in the entries for Ayr, not least my old pal Seeyouatmidnight, while Minella Daddy would be very much on the shortlist if all is well with him.
Still loads to look forward to.
March 18, 2017 at 16:12 #1293419Feel the same about the last few days; I hate seeing the same people win everything. Worked out that a small profit could have been made backing every placed horse from last year again this year, but haven’t worked out what would happen if that was ew bets. May come back to it at some point. Talking horses, plot horses in the handicaps, old favourites; Cheltenham had everything this year and I was on a high right from the first race [which was magical]. A good mix of everything. I did say someone would surprise everyone by how well they did, but didn’t dream that would be Jessie Harrington. As long as I get some nice priced placed horses I’m happy. Nearly had a disaster in the last race as I’d written down that I’d backed the winner at 14/1 but, checking my betting history it wasn’t there but luckily managed to get on at the last minute at 9/1. Tiger Roll bugs me, as does Doomesday Book [especially as I follow the jockey when she rides for Pam]. For next year; course form, course form, course form and never ignore old favourites! May rewatch the Irish preview to see what horses they mentioned [apart from Laibak]; it may have been the funniest preview but I reckon it was the most informative as well.
March 18, 2017 at 23:17 #1293474Yeah Moe, no fun the same people winning everything, but these things do go in cycles, and I’m sure things will change.
Course form really is a big deal Moe, as well as previous Festival Form, and it’s something I do pay attention to. Like yourself, I thought it had everything, and there’s been a helluva lot worse Festivals.
I can’t you have you getting bugged by Tiger Roll moe, he’s a good boy lol. His win, along with Cause of Causes will live long in the memory, happy happy days.
As you’ll probably know from my thread, I’ve always followed Jessica Harrington, and I managed to catch Supasundae in running. Still gutted by not having more on Sizing John. He was a nice winner on my “book”, but I should have boosted him, as he’s by Midnight Legend, and he’s an old favourite of mine. He was an Ante-Post of mine for The Arkle last year, and he also made my Ten To Follow last year
and Rock The World is a horse I’ve always followed, and I bet him in The Grand Annual last year, he was an Ante-Post of mine………..how the hell I missed him yesterday, I will never know. I was gutted to miss out on him.I wouldn’t pay too much attention to the preview nights moe, for every nugget you get, there’s constant rubbish you’ll have to listen to.
