"I’m not sure how you expect anyone to spot burn marks on the inside of a horses mouth while they are wearing a bridle but I’m sure you would have done." Mmmm let me think about this one, perhaps by removing it in the half hour they were waiting around prior to the race going ahead, just an idea.
So you want to remove the only device that has the horse under control while out on the course?
And why would they be looking for burn marks when it wasn’t certain (it still isn’t) that the other 2 horses were possibly electrocuted?
Do you live your whole life in hindsight?

Why would they even think of running the horses when 20% of the field were killed in the parade ring 30 mins earlier for an unknown cause.
There is the facility on this site where you can look at posts at the start of the conversation, you will see I was calling for racing to be cancelled straight away, not sure if you consider this hindsight? .
Rather than looking at the most recent comment you can look at the first few posts, pm me if your not sure how it works.

I’ve read the whole thread & it’s all about you banging on about "never watching racing again" and "they shouldn’t have run the 1st race"
As I’ve stated, the trainer of The Merry Man reports that he came back a bit stressed & wished he never ran him. The other horses came back FINE! There are unconfirmed reports of burn marks on the inside of their mouths. Which, if true, don’t seem to have upset any of the horses in any way.
Now, can you confirm whether you are leaving racing and this forum or are you going to continue watching and posting, once you have got over your little hissy fit?

To be honest I think I’m getting under your skin so more than likely to stay if it annoys you that much.
I wouldn’t get opinions like your anywhere else bar a looney bin

Re: Newbury
So an unknown (at present) incident has killed two horses and caused others to be shaken, yet most trainers are running their horses regardless.Take a leaf out of Hendersons book, he withdrew Kid Cassidy, withdraw your horses and let this fixture go, obviously unsafe.
Trainers and owners put your horses first here and don’t be so cruel. Ridiculous this meeting hasn’t been immediately cancelled.
Posted well in advance of first race. Your understanding of hindsight is remarkable….

Nobody is really arguing with you about whether or not the first race should have been run. You’ve (repeatedly) made your point that you think it shouldn’t have been. Others have just pointed out that you aren’t in possession of all the facts so aren’t really in a position to provide the decisive voice on the matter, other than to provide a speculative viewpoint (which you have done).
You’re also not in a position to make a judgement on
why
the decision was made, because you simply don’t know. You’ll have to wait, like the rest of us, until the facts emerge.
Sorry to rain on your parade (crusade).

Opinion? I’m dealing with facts!
As for your first quote of "take a leaf out of Henderson’s book and withdraw your runners" are you aware that Nicky Henderson trained Oasis Knight, who came 2nd?
So just to confirm, you are going to continue watching this "cruel sport" once you’ve got over the fact that Newbury ran the 1st race?
February 12, 2011 at 19:30 #340221And as for "finding opinions like that in the Looney bin" I do believe it was YOU, Joncol, who suggested that the parade ring should be turned into a crime scene and, I assume, the police should be called!
Would you like to run that 999 call through your head?

No I won’t be watching it.

February 12, 2011 at 19:38 #340223Good.
Maybe it will do your blood pressure the world of good!
Interesting you chose to ignore running the 999 call through your head & asking for a crime scene to be set up. Or the fact that Henderson left his other horse in.
But hey-ho, why let the facts get in the way of opinions?

Just to be clear re @NewburyRaces not one vet, trainer or jockey mentioned anything about burn marks in, b4 or after official enquiry

Don’t let Joncol read that, it will spoil his conspiracy theories.

Id rather hear that from someone at ground level or wait to see what Alice Plunkett (who reported it says) rather than listen to anything Paul Struthers tweets

Can I ask why my link to that site was deleted? It’s a factual site which I feel is important to highlight, why was it deleted?

Nope, DS, it clearly hasn’t, he’s unphased!

Lol – not able to accept any facts at all! As far as I’m aware, Alice Plunkett did not look into the horses mouths. Unless the horses were hanging around the weighing room steps, where Alice was all day.
So why would you want to wait on her thoughts rather than those of the officials?
February 12, 2011 at 19:48 #340231So I’ve been making a mistake in my posts all afternoon, I didn’t know there had been such a gap between the incident & the first race getting underway. Apologies for that.
I still think all this talk of whether the first race should have been run or not is a bit of a sideshow. It doesn’t turn the clock back to before the incident. We should be focusing on what on earth happened in the parade ring.
Incidentally, you’re a lucky man Joncol, any other internet forum would have declared you a ‘troll’ long before now.
