She’ll be back in the breeders paddock over the weekend and she’ll stay there until we find a good home for her.

She’s a lovely big filly who moves well and has no real vices. We’ll ensure that she has a long, useful and happy life in front of her,

We envisage perhaps a riding school or a horse for an advanced "novice" rider.

She’s such a nice looking and well moving filly that even some form of show or eventing career wouldnt be out of the question for her

Whatever happens, we will ensure that she’s well looked after.

Thanks so much for the info on Wendy, Grey Desire and apk.

It is good to know that you will ensure that she goes to a good home and is well looked after, as it is always a concern what happens to so many horses after their racing careers have ended, especially if they have not been so successful on the racecourse.

What is especially nice to hear about are owners who do look after their horses so well. Back in the early 1970’s, I used to follow a horse of Barry Hills’ called Kentucky Fair (1969 Crocket – Monet Royal), owned by Sutton bookmaker John Manley. He was a winner of three flat races (including a ladies race at Newbury ridden by Brooke Sanders), two hurdle races and a steeplechase, and many years later, I wrote to Brooke Sanders (after Double Dutch had won the Cesarewitch for her) to congratulate her on Double Dutch’s success and also to ask about Kentucky Fair to see if she knew what had become of him. I had a very nice letter back to say that not only was he one of her favourites, but she knew exactly where he was and had passed on my details to his owners, who subsequently got in touch with me.

The upshot was that after the Whitbread Gold Cup of 1990, my wife and I paid a visit to the stables in Newdigate where Kentucky Fair was living and we were able to meet him and watch him enjoying a very happy retirement at the age of 21, being well looked after by his owners who thought the world of him. :D His original owner John Manley had retired him after he won over fences because he felt that the horse had done enough, and he did not want to risk him being injured.

I am sure that Wendy will enjoy a similar happy retirement and thanks once again for the update.

We have taken a quarter lease in two horses as replacements for Wendy.

One is her half sis Groundhog Day.

I know you will all think why but she is ready to race and if she can get over her stalls problems (she is fine at home) she has the ability to win a small race.
Certainly is thought to be a lot better than a 40 rated horse and will hopefully be running next week.

If it doesn’t work out with her we have a replacement for her which will be ready to run in the new year.

The other is Chamerion who has shown promise in bumpers for Michael Dods and will go novice hurdling in the autumn.

We thought it was only fair to to get the nervous watchers amongst the syndicate an inexperienced novice hurdler

I specifically told Michael Dods i wanted the dodgiest jumper he had :D

I’m sure we could accomodate you Grays.

Might mean trips up to the likes of Hexham and Kelso which I know would upset you greatly.

Groundhog Day is entered at Beverley on Thursday and will be given a race entry for Nottingham the following day.

Declared to run, just waiting for confirmation of the jockey booking.

No doubt the agents are clogging up John’s phone line with suitable riders for her!!!!

Sadly won’t be there as I’m finally going to Great Leighs to see our works syndicate horse run in the novice race.

Best of luck for tomorrow GD and with Groundhog Day (does she have a nickname?) for Thursday. What’s the work’s syndicate horse called?

Won’t be running today as she bled yesterday and that gives us a valid excuse for why she stopped so quickly.
Hopefully she’ll be ok to run again in about three weeks time.
The slow ground wouldn’t have helped either.

Oh joy a bleeder, like Trade Fair who also bled, what a royal pain in the neck, I hope it was a one off.

Groundhog Day will hopefully be ready to run in a couple of weeks time.

The bleeding is a worry and if she did bleed again we would call it a day and switch to the Toubougg filly.

If she doesn’t bleed then we can have a few runs and see whether it is worth persevering with her.
With her low rating it makes life difficult especially with the removal of the banded races so we’ll just have to see how she performs and take it from there.

Chamerion is fine and will hopefully be ready to run early November.
The way she has stayed on in her bumpers suggests that she will need a trip.
