I was pretty impressed by that. Cape Amber and Moonstone did plug on and will assert themselves well over 12f, but Lush Lashes was still going away from them at the line. The only way I’ll even hear of that form being reversed at Epsom is Cape Amber perhaps needing the run today.

Awful IMO, I hate people who belittle our classics. They are taking all the romance out of the sport.SEND THEM TO EPSOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just casue they aint going to Epsom doesnt mean they are belittling the classics, it’s Irish Trained so makes sense if not going to handle Epsom to win your Home Classic
Yes it does why not go for both?
It appears to be a new thing creeping in to "ignore Epsom or knock the Derby etc".
I don’t like it one bit.
May 14, 2008 at 14:40 #163430Has some one connected to Lush Lashes said anything to back this up Flash?
May 14, 2008 at 14:41 #163431I find myself agreeing with Flash (in a way).
Bolger and the owners are absolute idiots if they do not run at Epsom.
The filly is well balanced. Sound and in form (may not be either come Irish Oaks time). Acts well on a sound surface which usually prevails more often in England than Ireland. And got the form to win it.Where we differ Flash, I hope Sheikh Mo does buy Lush Lashes, at least the great man (Mo not Flash) knows the Epsom Classics are worth winning.

Value Is EverythingMay 14, 2008 at 14:41 #163432Is everyone certain Lush Lashes will really get 12 furlongs? I’m not so certain. York isn’t the stiffest track and its an extra two furlongs.
Not saying she won’t but I wouldn’t say its a cast iron cert that she’ll be as good or better over twelve furlongs.

I was just about to befriend you Ginge till you said the Sheikh Mo thing. Now I feel we are destined to remain enemies.

May 14, 2008 at 14:47 #163435One side question.
Is it time we set tradition and history aside?
Trainers and owners are increasingly aware that Epsom is an undulating course that can put a big strain on a horses soundness. It may be a test but no owner wants their horse to come back injured, not able to run again that season. Epsom’s plan would be unlikely to be passed if it were a new course today.
What about revamping Newbury and having it there. Fairest course in the country.

Value Is EverythingMay 14, 2008 at 14:50 #163436Newbury?!!!!! Dump. That would definitely belittle the classic.
Will be interesting to see how Marjalina gets on in the blue wind stakes at Naas this evening after the performance of lush lashes. The ground probably beat the latter when they met in March but if Marjalina is improving she could be very decent indeed.

Ginge I will have to consider putting a contract out on you if you continue in this vein.
No it isn’t time to sweep aside history and tradition. The politicians have done their best to do that as it is we don’t want it in racing as well.
Epsom has been perfectly sufficient for over 200 years lets embrace what we have rather than destroy it.
Epsom didn’t wreck Mill Reef or Nijinsky or Sea Bird or Dancing Brave or Sir Ivor or Shergar or a whole host of others.
If trainers are so worried about their horses now how about encouraging breeding along the lines of stouteness and stamina rather than fragility and speed.
Problems grown out of seeds sown.
May 14, 2008 at 16:16 #163455When the going is on the firm side these days there does seem to be more horses not racing again after the Derby.
I note those horses you quote Flash, not one raced later than 20 years ago.
Do agree, breeders should try to install soundness in to their horses. And stamina is an attribute many stay (get it?) clear of.
I talked to one "stud groom" (better job than it sounds), his bosses no longer try to iron out conformation flaws by putting a mare to a sire with particularly good conformation.I too love the tradition and history of the Derby, just wonder if it is worth it these days.

Value Is EverythingMay 14, 2008 at 16:20 #163457If connections don’t want to go to Epsom, in favour of staying at home, then I don’t see the point in running in races like the Musidora in the first place – York is hardly a conventional track.
The attitude of some trainers mystifies me at times.
May 14, 2008 at 16:36 #163461Those of you wishing to invest five-figures at York this summer, or simply enjoy placing your wagers with a gentleman, may be interested to know Freddie Williams is now present on-course in Tattersalls ring.
May 14, 2008 at 16:45 #163462I honestly cant see why Bolger isnt willing to have a go at epsom, his filly is so much further ahead of all the opposition at present that the Oaks is probably her best chance of a classic (although she would also look a brilliant contender for the Pretty Polly).
She lost ground coming down the hill at newmarket in what was basically a 4f sprint for home, but made ground in the last furlong. She will not be expected to all out sprint downhill at epsom, and with such a convincing win today it is hard to see her being beaten by anything we’ve seen so far, even if the ground deteriorates to good as is fairly likely.
Bolger would currently look to be a complete wind up merchant IMO
.May 14, 2008 at 17:25 #163469Lush Lashes was impressive today but I don’t think it actually makes the Guineas better than it seemed at the time. On the day it was a pretty average race, horses like Lush Lashes and Infallible may go on to win at the highest level but most likely that will be over 1m2f+ and 7f respectively.
May 14, 2008 at 17:28 #163471Bolger, according to the RP site, has only run one horse at Epsom in the last five years.
Suggests he’s not keen on running his horses down the side of a mountain.

May 14, 2008 at 17:42 #163474How many people have actually been to Epsom?
You need to go to the course to really understand the test it presents.
May 14, 2008 at 18:48 #163485I go every year, Aragorn, and this years tickets came today! I’ve walked all over and round the place. I even attend the terrier Derby and the Shetland pony Derby.
Although I love the Derby, I reckon Jim can run his horse wherever he thinks best. Nobody has ever run horses for folk on messageboards.
Since, and including, say, Kriskin, few winners have been much good after the race.
