May 16, 2008 at 11:06 #163864That would certainly make sense.
(EDIT: A search of Google images would seem to confirm.)
May 16, 2008 at 11:26 #163869The 50s equiv of Matt Damon and George Clooney *ahem*
May 16, 2008 at 12:17 #163880Get MP back, was good to see another female so ‘passionate’ (if that’s the right terminology to use) about horse racing. Never thought she was that out of order with what she said, surely a friendly warning would have been enough?
May 16, 2008 at 12:23 #163882On the subject of avatars, Kauto, are you the one on the left or the right?
May 16, 2008 at 12:26 #163883The other one is MP….
May 16, 2008 at 12:35 #163886
While back on the subject, I’d say the three stallions that also did well in the Irish Derby were way better than the others mentioned.
Can everyone see why some trainers/owners/breeders may swerve Epsom now?
I love Epsom, but as I don’t make my living from bloodstock,I quite understand when some folk don’t want to run here.
It’s that old bottom line again, Drone ( and, no, I’m not making reference to any film star avatars or anything like that).
Btw, what the hell is an avatar? I’m sure we didn’t have those when the "elders" were young?
May 16, 2008 at 12:38 #163888Do you think they would ever move the derby and oaks away from epsom?? i dont think it would be the same at a different course…
and an avatar is them little pictures underneath some peoples names
May 16, 2008 at 13:26 #163895Bullers, it wasn’t really you that wound me up last night. You have my apologies. (I quite enjoy your stuff).
I think Sir Percy bashers in general are all misguided lunatics, but you are perfectly entitled to disagree with me on that point

The mischievous reincarnation who possessed the MP account was the displaced target of my ire and I’m glad he’s been exorcised once more – though of course, like all mischievous reincarnations, he will be back.
May 16, 2008 at 13:38 #163898Randolph Scott and Cary Grant it is, honourary drones both
Of Bachelor Hall fame or infamy, take your pick… that’s pick
Two of my favourite actors that’s all, interpret my choice any way you choose
May 16, 2008 at 15:33 #163920Regarding moving the Derby and Oaks –
My argument would be that the unique layout of Epsom place a balance of demands on physique, temperament, ability, speed, stamina and soundness which, if satisfied, provide a sound base upon which to influence the future of the breed.
May 16, 2008 at 19:26 #163943Yes, Epsom is unique and folk tend to either love it or hate it.
As for Mick’s question about whether they’d ever move the Derby elsewhere (again), I would hope not, BUT, we can never tell for sure.
For instance, I never thought they ( yes, it’s always "they", isn’t it?) would close Walthamstow dog track, but that’s what’s happening now!
To be sold off to the developers because they ( there i go again) can’t make it pay because of the off-course competition which is now tax-free.Racecourses will start to go within the next five years , imo.
