No idea what he looked like in the paddock (would be interested to hear) and he always runs as if hes not ready for anything!
November 20, 2006 at 16:10 #31648Thanks Clivex
Just canvassing opinion, finding it a hard race to weigh up tbh
Trainer of the 2nd
. Trainer Tom Mullins said: "I’m thrilled with that performance. She should come on a lot for the run
So if, BI wasn’t ready either as Aston points out then there is no wasy it’s a 165 performance imo

November 20, 2006 at 16:20 #31649the week before the race all i read was brave inca was fitter than this time last year, and various connections saying they expecte him to take all the beating. after the race all you hear are excuses. imo he had an extremly hard season last year with mccoy taking him to the well once too often. it will suprise me if he is the same force again over hurdles, possibly the time to go chasing??
iktitaf won well enough i thought, for a moment i thought he was another harchibald coming there full of running, and not seeming to find much, but watching it over and over i think asian maze was coming at him hard and he was finding enough to hold her off. imo!
having said that, i would take the mare if offered one! she will def come on for that.
newmill won a poor CC and is over rated. mister mcgoldrick in third! please!
November 20, 2006 at 16:26 #31650Spot on Dave on all comments but can you see him being a reliable enough jumper to go chasing?
Also, i tend towards the view that the more extensive the hurdle career is the harder it is to convert them into jumpers
November 20, 2006 at 16:38 #31651he would be a good lay first time out over fences tho!
your right, i cant imagine him being a reliable jumper of a fence, or really enjoying it, but he does neither over hurdles really anyway!
my prediction for the champion hurdle is detroit city, macs joy and noble request will be fighting out the finish, ahead of iktitaf and harchibald who dont like a scrap. but what order the first 3 i have no idea! i think noble request is a spring horse and could be up there. what do you think!?
November 20, 2006 at 16:51 #31652I thought detroit City was exceptional last week. Yes he was entitled to win (even off top weight) but the manner of it couldnt be ignored…
I like Macs joy and couldnt rule out Hardy Eustace who cruised round on Saturday, hurdled beutifully and looked a picture.
November 20, 2006 at 17:10 #31653ive never really liked hardy. (prob sentimental because he beat rooster booster!) but that aside i think his best chance this year is in the stayers. looks like they are planning to test the water at ascot in the long walk rather than take him to cheltenham for the old bula.
a wise move i feel

Lol. Same here.
My own personal view is 2m might be a bit sharp for Hardy these days at the top level.
November 20, 2006 at 21:59 #31655Boys at Sleepy Hollow have Iktitaf on 168P
Same applies to that rating as applies to the RPR imo and i look forward to laying Iktitaf when he meets the likes of Hardy Eustace, Detroit City etc
November 20, 2006 at 22:16 #31656Timeform have Iktitaf on 164p.
Trainers of Grade 1 winners have just seen their charges beaten by one of last year’s leading novices on their season reappearance. Do you really expect Mullins or Murphy to come out and say ‘Yep, we we 100% and beaten by a better horse, we’ll either go up in trip or over fences now.
November 20, 2006 at 22:23 #31657Thanks for puting me right on the mark DJ and no i do not expect trainers to say we wre beaten by a better horse(though some do), but what i do expect is handicappers to look at race, look at the previous form of the horses contested it, weight it up, weigh what trainers are saying, before and after the race and rate the race properly seeing they are getting paid decent sums to do so
All i can say is i’m glad i do not rely on either sets of ratings for my betting
Are you sure you don’t mean agree with you?
Surely anyone that punts seriously relies on more than one piece of information than a ‘master’ rating in any case.

you,re asking the handicapper to listen to what the trainer says????
November 20, 2006 at 22:44 #31660No DJ, i don’t mean agree with me.
i actually don’t want them to agree with me, it benefits me, when those that believe these ratings to be correct are backing these horse, not only does it allow me to lay horses that are overated at overbet prices, it allows me to back underrated horses at value odds
However that does not stop me giving my opinion on these ratings and what i think they maybe should be
Agreed, relying on one thing, be it a master racting, a spedfigure is not the Holy Grail
November 20, 2006 at 22:46 #31661tiger
I’m not asking anyone to do anything, i am giving an opinion on a message board
November 20, 2006 at 22:51 #31662btw, welcome to forum tiger
November 20, 2006 at 22:54 #31663I don’t understand your turn of phrase then ew, whilst I don’t know for sure, I’d hazard a guess that the handicapper at both Tf and the RP have come up with an informed and considered opinion, rather than just pulled a figure out of thin air as you insinuate by suggesting that they need to ‘rate the race properly.’
I wouldn’t have all that strong an opinion on what Iktitaf should be rated, but I’m not sure I’d want to go much lower.
