I think thats fair SHL provided we arent sent away with excuses (didnt C Murphy work with AOB for a while  )
I like Colm Murphy though and like Paul nichols hes always kept the public informed
November 23, 2006 at 14:34 #31682Something that occured to me last night that no-one else has mentioned, is what was the point of Barry Geraghty riding Brave Inca at the weekend? Clearly he’s going to be unavailable throughout the rest of the season and it also gives him a better knowledge of Brave Inca and therefore he’ll have a better idea of how to beat him.
Surely they should be looking to get a rider for Brave Inca for the rest of the season rather than hoping for McCoy to be available, that looks unlikely with Straw Bear likely to be campaigned at the top level.
November 23, 2006 at 18:54 #31683Good point but the benefits of Mccoy on this particular beast possibly outweigh the other factors.
which other jockeys could drive Bi in quite the same way (up the cheltenham hill too) ?

Valid point DJ. The horse seems to need vigorous driving. Who would you suggest as the ideal man on top?
November 23, 2006 at 19:02 #31685I’m not sure to be honest Lingfield. Most of the top boys look to have a ride in this year’s Champion. If you could compare anyone’s riding style to McCoy’s (which you can;t really because the guy is different class) but personally I like Robert Thornton. He has a pretty busy style which would suit the horse I think but he’d be a far from likely source to get the ride. Presumably it will go to one of the other Irish lads. I do like Andrew McNamara too but he’s unlikely to be available next time because he’ll be on Newmill.
December 6, 2006 at 14:19 #31686After seeing Brave Inca beat Asian Maze will handicappers be re-assessing the performance of Iktitaf?
December 6, 2006 at 14:22 #31687Asian Maze not giving her running today leaves you to question in hindisght whether she gave it in the Morgiana. Brave Inca again ran below his best today, the bare form looks to mean very little in today’s contest with Brogella beaten little distance.
December 6, 2006 at 14:24 #31688There is only one conclusion I would draw from today’s race: AP McCoy is different class. Otherwise, the race looked a complete mess on awful ground with the 66/1 rag beaten less than three lengths.
December 6, 2006 at 14:39 #31689But it will be Straw bear for him in the champion….
December 6, 2006 at 14:54 #31690I dont buy this Brave Inca needs McCoy…he just needs a top class jockey. Walsh showed on the card today he is just as strong as AP in a finish when he needs it.
December 6, 2006 at 15:19 #31691Barry’s not top class? ;)
Walsh is my fav jockey but surely his strength is his quiet balanced style? would RW really be at his best driving along a lazy BI?
December 6, 2006 at 15:28 #31692i cant see brave inca in the top 3 in the champ after that
December 6, 2006 at 15:32 #31693Barry’s not top class?
Not Cash anyway!
So, in hindsight would you trust Iktitaf’s Morgiana rating, and if not would you go back and revise the rating?
December 6, 2006 at 15:52 #31695"The conditions were not ideal but he’s a hard horse. He’s getting older and a bit cuter.
Did Mccoy let slip there that hes even less straightforward than last year? ;)
The race might well "bring him on" but might also "put him off" too. It was a slog. I bet Brave inca is moaning all the way back to the stables…
Asian Maze was desperately disappointing.

Clivex,
Agree with you re Ruby’s balance, but what about his driving finish on My Will a few weeks back? Made a couple of lengths difference on the run in against idle talk. Superb to watch..
December 6, 2006 at 16:13 #31697I backed My Will that day
So i havent forgotten…
Just more a case of whether driving him throughout the race would be something Ruby could execute quite as well as Mccoy
Apart from Francome (and my memory is only of his very last days), i have never enjoyed watching a jockey as much as Ruby though. Absolute pleasure
