Barry’s not top class?
Horse clearly was not ready for his seasonal debut and McCoy pointed out how good a job Barry G the last day by not pushing him too hard when he clearly was not ready.
Asian Maze ran poorly today but clearly gave a much better show in her Punchestown run. Impossible to draw a firm conclusion that because she did not perform today she did not the last day. She had a hard race the last day and looks like Meade was correct in giving Iktitaf a break.
Did Mccoy let slip there that hes even less straightforward than last year?
This is not the first time you hinted or suggested the horse is ungeniune. He is a tough but straightforward ride….as genuine and tough as teek as they come.
The race might well "bring him on" but might also "put him off" too. It was a slog. I bet Brave inca is moaning all the way back to the stables…
Again how many times have you said this? Every time the horse has a tough race you question weither he will come back from it but 99% of the time he comes back. And what is the reason? Simply because he does the bare minimum ensures he is not extending himself in these races.

THere is also the fact that his ears was pricked…this to me a whole different language of a horse sulking. He

December 6, 2006 at 16:39 #31700Asian Maze has stood up to repeated racing in the past. Three wins in a month as a novice. But although she seems a bit in and out, this hasnt done wonders for ikitaf’s credentials
December 6, 2006 at 16:51 #31701Ok simple question Clive…do you think Asian Maze ran the same race today as she did against Iktitaf or are you just suggesting it for the sake of it?
December 6, 2006 at 16:58 #31702Well, if we take a direct line through Brave Inca, then no. But BI was expected to improve a lot from that run wasnt he?
She ran a bad race today but iktitaf’s race is even harder to weigh up now…

The HG is run over a half-mile further than the Morgiana, is pretty much an anomaly as far as traditional ‘Champion Hurdle trials’ are concerned, and can safely be ignored, imo, as a pointer/knock to any particular horses Champion Hurdle chances – same as it was last year.
With that thinking we should be questioning the Tingle Creek and Kauto Star ability

December 6, 2006 at 17:19 #31704Bookmakers divided over BI’s run.
Some shorten to 9/2 for the Champion, others push out to 7
December 6, 2006 at 17:20 #31705Why would you question Iktitaf’s Morgiana form, on the back of the Hattons Grace, clivex?
Because the extra half mile should have suited AM better. She has always looked like she needs well over 2m to me. Makes today’s performance even more disappointing
December 6, 2006 at 17:26 #31706In a nutshell Ikt beat;
1. a chaser having a warm up
2. a champion who was nursed round a bit and needed the race (so we are told)
3. A lovely mare running over a distance which looks inadeqaute (even maybe on soft going) and who has badly disappointed today
and he didnt exactly thrash them either
I think Ik is going to improve but wouldnt be carrying any money of mine just yet. Especially with his fine trainer’s strangely rodinary Cheltenham record (why is that???)
December 6, 2006 at 17:29 #31707The fact that Asian Maze has run poorly today casts some doubt as to how well she ran in the Morgiana I think. I’m not saying Iktitaf isn’t a Champion Hurdle contender, but his form doesn’t look as strong as what it could.
December 6, 2006 at 17:32 #31708Dj beat me to it :)
strong as what it could.
But could improve his english ;)

December 6, 2006 at 17:37 #31709All past performances are relevant Grass, thats what i’m trying to say
As DJ states there has to be a doubt cast over the Morgianna race and in regard to Iktitaf’s championship aspirations
December 6, 2006 at 17:46 #31710Grass
The ground today was probably worse than the Morgiana, but either ground would not be to Asian Maze’s liking imo, add to this, the trip (shorter than Asian Mazes best ) and it puts a big ? against Iktitaf’s Morgiana form imhaho

Asian has form in heavy/soft. Not sure that was a problem for her
December 6, 2006 at 18:23 #31712Aye Clivex, Asian maze does handle it, but is it’s best form on it?
Is it’s best form at Aintree on Good and G/S, Punchestown on Good or in the other races?
Me think’s the former and the RPR’s aslo reflect this
Aidan, are you seriously suggesting that Brave Inca did "the bare minimum" today and won unextended?
Must speak for himself but maybe he means it wins narrowly.
In reality BI had another hard race of which it surely can only take so many – http://www.sportinglife quotes"all out to hold on near finish".
