January 28, 2011 at 03:07 #337991I wish I checked the forums before the races so I could have declared Presvis a good thing.
Presvis is one of the better horses going around but is a very quirky character. In several races last year his connections tried to have Presvis closer in the run which he resented. The most notable example is his final run at Ascot but the first Dubai run is another key example. They only did this with Kieren Fallon on.After the Ascot race Luca Cumani blamed himself for trying to change the horse’s racing pattern. More importantly, he promised to from then on ride Presvis where he is comfortable.
I’ve always rubbished views that Presvis’s FORM was below-par last year. Throw out the Fallon races.
-His win in the G2 leadup to the Duty Free was as good as his 2009 Duty Free 2nd; in both races he treated an on-form Alexandros with contempt
-He got blocked for a run well into the straight of last year’s Duty Free, ending his race
-He ran huge in defeat in Hong Kong. The race book says he ran 5th, but the pace was an absolute crawl and he stormed home from an impossible position. I follow HK racing intently and the sectional times tell you that Presvis ran as well in winning the previous year’s edition. Running the final 2 furlongs a length and a half faster than HK’s Collection and Super Satin off that pace is ridiculous
-In Singapore he didn’t handle the loose ground, and struck interference both ends of the raceHe still needs a pace that isn’t excruciatingly slow (like it was in Hong Kong) and a bit of luck in running but he is a very serious proposition now that they’re letting him run his race.
