I’ve had a bet on Blue Point at 5/2 (Paddy Power)

I can’t rule him out when he’s never tried 5F and as Degaussed has said, I thought Blue Point was looking likely to take Harry’s Angel in the Commonwealth Cup before Caravaggio came to mow both of them down, with Blue Point not quite maintaining his run.

Charlie Appleby said “Blue Point is the fastest, and always been, horse in the yard” and I just feel he has scope at only 4YO to be improving and strengthening up as a Sprinter. Ertijaal sets a strong standard but he’s probably as good as he will ever be now and at 4/7 he makes no appeal with a horse who sits very near his level already and could easily improve this season.

The trainer was confident about Blue Point in his Meydan preview, when he shortlisted the horse with others such as Gold Town as the ones to keep an eye on. I would rather risk less money at 5/2 than go Nap on Ertijaal at 4/7 and have nagging doubts.

    2.30 Blue Point 5/2

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Doesn’t look my kind of races but will back these to minimum stakes though

    3.05
    SPRING OFFENSIVE 16/1
    MUSUWAAT 10/1
    4 Places e/w

    3.40
    PORTAMENTO 16/1

    4.15
    LIGHT THE LIGHTS 9/2

    4.50
    DREAM CASTLE 7/1
    WHISKY BARON 14/1

    6.00
    HUGE FUTURE 14/1

All pretty speculative but as I say not really my kind of races.

    Good Luck Guys :good:

Just had an ealry morning cuppa and a look down the card and it looks a tricky day but a few decent horses running to look forward too…

    2.30 .. BLUE POINT **NAP**
Has the class to beat Ertijaal and distance should not be a problem.
Reverse Forecast with Outdo just for fun.
    3.05 .. NATHR – Each Way
Jim Crowley deserted Tafaakhor for this one. Altough badly drawn Nathr is well in at weights and has each way chances. In past races he has finished in front of both Secret Ambition (10 lengths) and Galvanized. Interesting to see how this pans out today.
    3.40.. RAVEN’S CORNER
Previously with John Gosden, I like this horse. Not Group class but carrying a stone less than the favourite Kimbear and showing signs of returning to form he is definitely in with a chance.
    4.15 .. FOLKSWOOD
Down in class from his last races, runs well fresh and hopefully will turn out well later today.
    4.50 .. DREAM CASTLE
Have to hope that he gets his act together at the finish today with big danger Bay Of Poets.
Both horses with Classic form last year Dream Castle 5th to Churchill in the 2000 Guineas with Eminent and Top Score behind him and Bay Of Poets 3rd to Cracksman in the Derby.
Looking forward to this one. :good:
    5.25 .. DRAFTED
This flying grey gelding in great form beating Yalta last time out and the ill fated Scrutineer.
    6.00 .. EYNHALLOW
This time he will show a clean pair of heels to half brother Gold Star after being badly hampered last time out. Like MOM really love this horse and this makes the last race of the day one of the most exciting as think they will both be battling out the finish.

    DAYS DOUBLE:
    Blue Point
    Eynhallow

Good Luck everyone who plays, it’s not going to be easy..Jac :rose:

Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...

well looks pretty overwhelming that Blue Point is the horse to be on today and with so many good judges of that opinion it will make for interesting viewing. I still think (even looking at the race replays ) he may not get to the fav, hope I am wrong and the backers collect.

Hope there is enough pace in the race for Leshlaa to collect. IMO was undone by lack of pace in race when third first time, bit of a worry is there is plenty of cash around for the classy Folkswood.

Played it a bit safer with a fair bet EW on Bay Of Poets at 3s. Played it EW as just feel at times he can hit a bit of a flat spot and that’s the worry. Championship was disappointing first time up and is better than that, but the draw(10) is a bit off putting. Janoobi just chucks in to many ‘bad’ ones to be confident about, while Noah is held (x2) by Championship

In the lucky last, its a question of who was hampered more last time out, Eynhallow or Gold Star. TBH I thought Gold Star would have been shorter than the price he is, but again on here (and you ‘aint normally wrong) are siding with the Appleby inmate. But at 2s I am enough with GS to confirm the form

GL to all and lets hope the thread keeps delivery winners

A very difficult card to assess today. I can understand the case and love for Blue Point, he delivered for me on Sagaro day at Ascot but I just think Ertijaal will be too quick and nimble over 5f for him. 5/2 is a fair and tempting price. If it was 6f id say BP would have his number.

Later on in the card I really like Folkswood, if he can recapture his old form. A nice trip to Aus before here has surely done him the world of good.

As I said, theres no real betting angle of major confidence from me so I will have a little Yankee for fun but in the meantime my selections below:

    14.30 Ertijaal
    15.05 Secret Ambition
    15.40 Kimbear
    16.15 Folkswood
    16.50 Dream Castle
    17.25 Footbridge
    18.00 Gold Star

Looking back…I think I may have a soft spot for the boys in blue!

Good luck all….bring home the bacon! :good:

    Hi Guys here we go.
2.30–No bet. It’ll be a great clash. Initially i was tempted to just go with the bigger price, but i honestly am not sure who will win this.

3.05–Tafaakhor 25/1 e/w, chancing this as there are pieces of form that make me wonder why hes that price. I could be showing my Meydan inexperience here but i will give him a go. Hes been dropped 5 after a bad run, but before that he was competing well.

    3.40– no bet.

4.15– Another tricky race. I like Leshlaa as a horse but he’s short in this. Folkswood is an unknown as well, his form is decent at the track, but his comeback run last year proved he might take a run to reach high enough figures to win this. His run with Decorated Knight wins this. No bet again, some fence sitting today lol

4.50– Championship at 8s looks quite overpriced, but it wouldn’t be a bet as hes been shown to have bled.

5.25– Drafted over a mile then? Yalta a speedster, 7furlongs for me was too far for him last time, so drafted mightve been flattererd there. The HK horse is an unknown. I wont be betting again.

6.00– RP Spotlight states Huge Future had a better trip than others last time when 5th. For me, hes arrived to the front too early. The others looked eyecatching no doubt, and it will be interesting to see how Wolf Country gets on. 12/1 ew on huge future worth a go.

So after that, just 2 bets!

My other five bets to go with the two mentioned above (Hit The Bid each way at 16s and Whisky Baron each way at 14s) are:

    3:05 – Spring Offensive each way @ 16/1

    3:40 – Kimbear @ 4/6

    4:15 – Folkswood @ 5/2

    5:25 – Drafted @ 2/1

    6:00 – Eynhallow @ 7/2 (NAP)

Please please please can I have a good Thursday at Meydan.

    Good luck all

Just want to share some thoughts on Classic Emperor in the penultimate race.

He is a rare HK racehorse bred for dirt (by Medaglia d’Oro and out of Malibu Moon mare). However he only had first start on dirt last Nov. He won that easily by 6 3/4 lengths.

You may say his last victory is not that impressive when facing a more competitive field.

His jockey, Derek Leung, may be a weak point. He partnered Classic Emperor in his only defeat on dirt over 6F. He jumped out of gate slowly and did not take his chance to take up prominent position in early stage. I am afraid he is not good at dirt track.

Some local punters fancy him. Even some thinks he is a big player in World Cup night after his first victory on dirt. I just believe that is a bit over-optimistic. I think the key point if he can take a prominent spot in early stage.

You can view his past performance with this link: http://www.hkjc.com/english/racing/horse.asp?HorseNo=T193&Option=1#htop

Charlie Appleby has said that Blue Point is not 100% fit but he is confident he can give Ertijaal a race. This race is part fact finding and they may learn whether 5F or 6F is the way to go with him.

The trainer expanding by saying that he is not concerned about the 5F trip today because he feels Blue Point has natural speed. The Al Quoz is the main early season target while the Jubilee and July Cup may be the targets if they go the 6F route, with Kings Stand and Nunthorpe the probable goals if going 5F.

I would say avoiding Baataash should be a priority really.

16/1 for the Diamond Jubilee could look big odds in time so I’ll have a little bit of that.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Decent run from hit the Bid. Not quite good enough to get the place in the end but good enough run.

That was a massive effort from Blue Point there. Conceding fitness to the local hero he gave him a fright and odds on backers must have been screaming for the winning line.

As said, early opinion is divided on the Al Quoz with different favourites across the card.

Odds for the Diamond Jubilee are unchanged but there is no way I could have Blue Point a 16/1 shot having just watched that. The admirable Hit The Bid was in third and Blue Point came past him and left him 3 lengths in arrears fairly readily.

Happy enough with Blue Point ante-post for the Al Quoz and that was an excellent race to watch today. Hopefully the battle was lost but war will be won.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
