I can’t let my dear friend Space Blues go unbacked today. He’ll have his work cut out against these faster horses over 6 1/2 furlongs but I’m sure he’ll go close.

£25ew Space Blues – 5-1 – Prix Maurice De Gheest winner

Well done Joni he won that entirely on merit from a bad draw and a distance not guaranteed to suit.
He justified all the faith that Charlie Appleby put in him and rewarded him with a Group 1 win.

Did I back him?..You bet I did.. :good:

I always like backing what I call “proper Group 1 horses” and there’s no doubt that Circus Maximus is a proper Group 1 horse. Obviously he may be up against one or two more today but he is a street fighter who never runs a bad race and I see the ground is heavy in Deauville today which might blunt the speed of some of his rivals. Should be a fascinating race anyway..

    £50 win Circus Maximus – 11-2 – Deauville 2.50 loser
£20 rev f/c Circus Maximus/ Palace Pier and Circus Maximus/Alpine Star loser

Thanks Jac. Yes a fascinating race in prospect today. I think if the real Ghaiyyath turns up then he wins. He is a monster this horse and York should suit him well. For me the danger could be Kameko who was very unlucky last time and for whom this trip should suit. Elsewhere I don’t see why Mogul should be opposed in the Voltigeur. He strikes me as a horse who will keep getting better and better.

    £50 win Mogul – 2-1 – York 2.45 lost
    £50 win Ghaiyyath – 11-8 – York 3.15 winner
£25 rev f/c Ghaiyyath and Kameko lost

Thanks Jac. Yes a tough day but I thought I was in there with Glencadam Glory and it took a group horse to beat him. I have to say it does make me laugh how trainers get away with things. If you watch all GG’s races this season he has been slowly away, awkward leaving the gate, too keen at the back etc etc Yesterday he jumped straight out to lead and showed absolutely no signs of quirkiness whatsoever. They must be cursing that Fujeira Price – the best laid plans hey?!

A couple for today. This has been a very disappointing year for Frankel so far and I think Quadrilateral could be vulnerable today. She SHOULD be good enough to win this but she doesn’t seem to finish off her races and so I’ll take her on with Lady Bowthorpe who was super impressive last time.

However in France, one who might run a big race at a decent price is the Frankel colt Collide. He has moved to David Simcock’s yard and it is interesting that he comes straight over to France for a Group 2. Conditions are ideal – just the usual caveat that most French races are tactical so I’m hoping Micael has his wits about him..

    £25ew Lady Bowthorpe – 7-1 – Sandown 3.05 lost
    £25ew Collide – 7-1 – Deauville 3.25 lost
    £10ew double
