Top Notch will be fine on Good to Soft. Very impressive today.

Top Notch done me a favour today but im a believer that this horse really wants to get his toe in. Even on good/soft i think its a lay. A bunch of below standard fencing by the opposition exaggerated the performance. Good luck to anyone whos weighing in,but its not for me

    Spot on

He’s only needed to run as well as Whisper did on his chase debut!

Surely Yorkhill is the certainties of certainties.. the ultimate no-brainer.

He might not even run in the JLT so he cannot be a considered certainty IMO. If he lines up is he the most likely winner? I think he is, but I think they will send him Arkle or more likely Champion Hurdle.

tbh if you listen to the hype on forums almost every horse at cheltenham now is apparently switching from fences to hurdles or from one intended target to another. perhaps shock horror some of them will actually stick with their original target?

    You make some sweeping statements

I think Whisper is the value play in this race. 10/1 is a great price with doubts about the few ahead of it in the market. My main bet is American Tom 25s,but i may of done my dough in cold blood after his Christmas exploits so i’ve taken the 10s e/w on Whisper as back up

Slight knock to Whisper’s form with Clan Des Obeaux well beaten. Have a feeling this horse will be totally ground dependant, Nicholls wouldn’t speak so highly of him if there was nothing special to him, unless he feels the pressure to do given his owner.

However, I am very jealous of anybody who has Top Notch at 20s, what a classy little animal! Only worry is he could be done for speed on better ground..

Thought Clan jumped like a pig. Sam Twister said that he thought Clan was his best novice chaser, yet he rides Politologue in the J.L.T. Clans a massive lay for me until i see him back at Newbury

    Hi All, Newbie here…

Been reading a lot of posts but thought it time to have a little input, advice required firstly!

Have four ante-post bets on this race:

    Yorkhill £40 win @ 7/2
    Politologue £10 e/w @ 14/1
    Whisper £10 e/w @ 10/1 NRNB
    Top Notch £10 e/w 20/1 NRNB

My question regards Yorkhill, he doesn’t seem to enjoy his jumping and with Faugheen a big doubt regarding the Champion Hurdle, is it worth having a ‘saver’ on him for the CH? On the chance he is supplemented. :good:

    I should of cashed out.

I dont think you need to, hills the only book you can take yorkhill on because hes not entered, and at 9/2 even if he was to be supplemented i dont think he would be muxh shorter than 9/2 considering hills are NRNB, i would wait it out

    Thanks Ham.

Yorkhill is 8.6 to place on the exchange which is tempting. I know I would lose my outlay if he weren’t to run but its still tempting

Top Notch 7/1 NRNB each way (1/4) looks a good punt with B365.

Be careful about the ground with Top Notch.

Official going reports are just someone’s opinion.
Two of Top Notches best performances came at the Cheltenham Festival, Neck 2nd in the Triumph Hurdle to Peace And Co and Champion Hurdle 9 3/4 lengths 5th to Annie Power. Former run in a time 10.4 seconds slower than Racing Post standard and Coneygree posted 5.5 slower than standard on the same day. Suggests to me the ground was not as soft as the official “Soft” discription. Ditto last year’s Champion Hurdle, time 5.9 seconds FASTER than Standard and in a new course record. imo It was more like GOOD ground despite the official going report.

imo Top Notch is equally effective on Heavy or Good going. In that Champion Hurdle, Top Notch seemed to be outpaced. Softer ground may well have helped bring out his stamina at the trip. However, over this distance he could get outstayed on stamina sapping going. ie Over this trip on a stiff course with likely decent/strong pace – I’d rather it was GOOD or GOOD-SOFT than softer.

Given Top Notch’s form, effectiveness on likely ground and Cheltenham Festival record – looks a good NRNB each way bet to me.

I backed him yesterday but I wouldn’t be quite so keen to support him at the Festival. I think the smaller the field the better for him. Given his size and that he is a safe, rather than spectacular jumper it isn’t going to be quite so easy to bury him away in a big field. Add in better opposition and it is debatable whether he is value.

Glad to have 20’s on TN but I still think if Yorkhill goes elsewhere that Whisper is my best bet. Course and festival form are two massive ticks in the plus box

I don’t think Stilvi was bragging atall, Judge. Just using the fact he backed Top Notch yesterday to illustrate that although thinking very well of the horse he doesn’t fancy him for the JLT.

Why even mention it at all though? Just say you don’t fancy it for the JLT.

Never heard him back a loser and he’s on every winner there’s ever been.

If just saying he didn’t fancy Top Notch then it would sound as if he doesn’t think much of the horse – which is not the case… And I’ve not noticed him aftertiming, usually gives his opinion somewhere on TRF beforehand in one or other of the sections.
