Anyone wishing to have a punt on this should just back Whisper at 10s NRNB, forget about the Mullins merry go round and sit back and watch as all the opposition gets re routed to other races. You’ll be sat on a stress free 10/1 ticket thats probably gonna be half that on the day. Entered in the R.S.A. but i think he’ll never make the hill at top pace so the J.L.T it is.
Does he need soft ground though?
Why is this even a question?
February 3, 2017 at 12:40 #1285470Top Notch is 20/1 NRNB with Bet365. If he wins tomorrow that could half and if not then connections might abandon Cheltenham plans this year altogether.
2nd in a Triumph, 2nd in a Fighting Fifth, split The New One & Identity Thief in a Champion Hurdle, 20/1 for the JLT after 3 wins from 4 runs over fences seems more than fair.
February 3, 2017 at 13:07 #1285483The more I look at this Top Notch is outstanding value at 20/1. Entered in the Champion Hurdle but the JLT is where he should end up. Hard to see the race at Ascot (because of the fog) but if you watch the race at Plumpton he jumps his fences beautifully (beat Romain De Senam easily conceding 12 lbs). I am a massive Yorkhill fan, but if I had the choice of backing Top Notch at 20’s or Yorkhill at 15/8 it’s an absolute no brainer in my book, not just based on ability, but also on how many of those ahead of Top Notch in the market are likely not to come out (Buveur Dair, Yorkhill, Might Bite, Coney Island).

agree
February 3, 2017 at 14:13 #1285501Be careful about the ground with Top Notch.
February 3, 2017 at 14:20 #1285504Surely there is little to go on there?
His best ratings were on Good-soft but he wins in heavy and soft?
February 3, 2017 at 15:08 #1285509Suppose it depends if you believe that RPR160 in the Champion Hurdle or not

Just won well at Sandown. Hendo said JLT the aim as well
February 4, 2017 at 14:36 #1285744Yeah I think he’ll be exposed there as needing soft ground, because that was a perfect performance from him. Strongly suspect conditions were in his favour.

Doesn’t matter what the ground is for Top Notch he’s the one they all have to beat in this if he runs…including ‘Yorkhill’ 8/1 is still huge after that performance at Sandown.
February 4, 2017 at 17:13 #1285771Be careful, it’s been forever since the Scilly Isles winner won at Cheltenham. Maybe the introduction of this race will change that though.
February 4, 2017 at 21:40 #1285808Top Notch will be fine on Good to Soft. Very impressive today.
February 4, 2017 at 21:48 #1285809Top notch 0/3 at Cheltenham.
February 4, 2017 at 21:50 #1285810Surely Yorkhill is the certainties of certainties.. the ultimate no-brainer.

Nope…The horse doesn’t like chasing, its like watching Morley Street all over again.

He might not even run in the JLT so he cannot be a considered certainty IMO. If he lines up is he the most likely winner? I think he is, but I think they will send him Arkle or more likely Champion Hurdle.

tbh if you listen to the hype on forums almost every horse at cheltenham now is apparently switching from fences to hurdles or from one intended target to another. perhaps shock horror some of them will actually stick with their original target?

Top Notch done me a favour today but im a believer that this horse really wants to get his toe in. Even on good/soft i think its a lay. A bunch of below standard fencing by the opposition exaggerated the performance. Good luck to anyone whos weighing in,but its not for me
