” too difficult for broadcasters to use the fellow who made the caustic comments. ”
True. I remember the furore after coverage of Aintree’s Ladies Day. The human in me thought it cruel and unacceptable but the dark (and generally dominant) side found it hilarious. It won’t happen again. However, it’s easy for a clever presenter (few & far between) to cover fashions without making overtly judgemental comments though. Let the viewers make up their own minds!
June 16, 2022 at 20:37 #1602597Watched it on sky sports. A pleasant change to just hear about the horses. Really struggling to watch itv at all now. Only matt and jason worth watching.
June 17, 2022 at 10:31 #1602673Chapman & Harvey are far better when they’re not playing the clown; There’s no need for it.

Some might argue this place would be the same…
But I’m still here.
Value Is EverythingJune 17, 2022 at 13:40 #1602715Matt and co out of date as usual.
Inspiral “out to 7/2”, is now back at below 11/4.
Value Is EverythingJune 17, 2022 at 14:10 #1602723I’m on ITV Racing viewer strike today – I refuse to even watch it on mute.
I will tune into the races at post time at betting platforms on my phone.
That’ll show ’em!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 17, 2022 at 15:37 #1602756I had to nip out earlier, so had to listen to a few races on Talksport; they went back to the studio, and Martin Kelner isn’t a fan of Ed’s extreme positivity; not everything can be fabulous, marvellous, fantastic….I’d agree, and as I’ve said before it’s a bit OTT; he needs to dial it back.
June 17, 2022 at 17:32 #1602808They spend too much time worrying about what the racegoers are doing than talking about the horses and the formbook. I have Racing TV for the sake of my sanity.
June 18, 2022 at 12:58 #1603018Before Royal Ascot thought Ed a pretty good presenter. But he’s had as bad an Ascot as Frankie. I hadn’t realised quite (agree Andy) how Ed throws the superlatives around and seems too concerned with how women look. The old attitude of what a woman looks like is the most important thing about them. That they should have more stars of stage and screen in the royal procession… And how any woman in the carriage has to be described as “the wife of”. What year are we living in?
Value Is EverythingJune 18, 2022 at 13:42 #1603051If you love racing, but you’re not actually in favour of a constitutional monarchy, how exactly do you cope at times like this?

Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
June 18, 2022 at 14:26 #1603067The pageantry and fashion is part of Royal Ascot. The television coverage aimed at a non-specialist audience is always going to include it.
June 18, 2022 at 14:38 #1603078“If you love racing, but you’re not actually in favour of a constitutional monarchy, how exactly do you cope at times like this?”
Not really too bothered to be honest. It’s just entertainment and, as Cork All Star says, the pageantry is all part of it. It’s their role in government that I don’t like. That said, it’s pretty galling to see the number of liggers & hangers-on today. Not a single proper royal in the entire procession, and very few with any excuse to be there at all (perhaps it’s been like that all week. I only saw today’s). Fair play to Ed Chamberlain for suggesting that they might consider including a few that people actually recognise (and want to see).
“how any woman in the carriage has to be described as “the wife of”. What year are we living in?”
100%. Having spent the entire week highlighting the changes in attitude to female jockeys, to then revert to this sort of 19th century language beggars belief.
June 18, 2022 at 14:42 #1603082I wouldn’t regard anyone – male or female – in a carriage at Royal Ascot as top of my list in the “Life Victim Sympathy Stakes.”
I’m sure females on council estates up and down the land have to contend with far worse, sexist remarks would be the least of their worries.
My earlier remark was tongue in cheek – CAS is quite right, this fixture has always been like this.
I wonder if they will change the name to “Republic Ascot” if we ever abolish the monarchy?
(Yes, that’s tongue in cheek too).
