Energuamine is a magnificent looking horse and I’m a sucker for that. Camelot another just gorgeous animal. Btw amazed how well flooring porter took the celebrations as he’s considered to be a bit of a loony.

My issue isn’t with the gambling. I know racing is tied to it. My issue is with the idea it’s a way to get rich or get a fat wedge in an instant.

When there’s so many people saying “gamble responsibly” it’d be nice to see some evidence of what responsible gambling is on the coverage. It’s certainly not talking about ten grand bets on coin flips.

The way sensible people talk about casinos in Las Vegas is about right. You’re paying money for the experience with your bets, it’s not a way, for most people, to earn money. Having a horse in contention coming up to the last is worth a few bob for me but the way the TV shows it it’s all about stacks of twenties wrapped in rubber bands. I hope if I ever had that amount of money I’d still be happy with a bet that costs no more than a pint.

That’s quite a big bet FiftyP

‘The cost of a pint of beer could rise by 50p as pubs experience increased pressure from surging inflation and supply chain problems.

Punters in London would spend as much as £7 on a pint as some pubs in the capital already charge over £6. ‘

( London krone average is currently £4.84 however different story in the shops – I bought 10 large cans of Guinness with the widget for £9 from Tesco recently – well I bought 2 cases and most are still in evidence hiding in the kitchen)

Strange the article calls em punters 🤠

I paid £5.95 for a pint of Fullers ESB in London on Monday. Reckon that will be well over £6 in a few weeks. £7 for a pint of the Liffey Water at Cheltenham is expensive but not that far out of line.

They charge that price because they have a captive audience. And after hearing all the rowdy shouting and bawling towards the end of the card yesterday, the Guinness tent was clearly doing lots of business.

When the sun is shining, 5 favourites romp home and groups of lads have got plenty of money from the bookies, they are not going to care less how much the beer costs. They are too pissed to notice anyway!

I have on occasion paid over £5 a pint and that would be in the proximity of bankrokeciti and I can tell you it left a bad odour each time.my wallet opened.
In greater london you can still find the sub £4 pint but then you have to contend with a Billynomates who might want a chat rather than a Hooray Henry or just a Henry who don’t.

I hope to return to the totally tee fold after this sort of Cheltenham weekend finishes and enjoy once again my one Saturday night solitary biscuit.

I wish they’d change the intro. It’s getting increasingly bothersome.

£7 a pint, lousy weather, and a string of 33/1 winners (I’ve backed).

I’ll enjoy watching that unfold from the comfort (and safety) of my home.

Is that a police car siren in the background?

Stopped going to Cheltenham festival 5 years ago. Far too expensive, considering i like a drink or six whilst there. The hassle of trying to get to the loo, and back again, in time for next race aint for me anymore. And even though it is a captive audience i wont pay £7 for a pint.
Bad enough at Newbury a few years back, with the drinks prices.

I am going to Aintree on the Thursday. I think a pint of Guinness was £5.50 when I was last there in 2019, so I expect it will be £6 or more this year.

Thought there’d be more and better analysis on ITV of the races today.
Ruby Walsh does it so well at Cheltenham / over jumps. Don’t see why someone can’t do it on the flat too.
