My biggest annoyance is a lack of objectivity especially from those who have in interests in the runners. So many races they are tipping horses who they want to win rather than they think will win by studying the form. Nuba nega looked a certainty to me yet not many tipping him. That’s just one example. You could list loads where even a cursory look at the form would get you a decent chance of winning. I struggle to watch itv racing now and only Chapman and Ruby are worth listening too. Oh for a Julian Wilson. He may have went to the same school as big mac but he made racing interesting and important.
To me the coverage is just a sign of today’s vacuous and bland coverage elsewhere on TV. Ssr is occasionally is brilliant especially with Chapman and seb Saunders.November 19, 2021 at 07:37 #1568025The Sunday forum on at the races was my favourite show with Pete,Julian and aussie Jim mcgrath. We’ll researched and hugely entertaing. Just what itv racing should be IMHO.
November 19, 2021 at 10:55 #1568029I’m surprised you liked Julian Wilson.
Have you read his book? Either he made things up or or there were a lot of ladies with white sticks in his circle.
November 19, 2021 at 11:51 #1568035I don’t much like Clare Balding, but I disliked Julian Wilson far more after his petulant “R Sole” email to humiliate her live on air.
He had seemed to me (shows what a lousy judge of character I must be) to have a bit of gravitas prior to that.

Agree with that. I know Chapman divides the crowd but I do like him on SSR.
Sanders is becoming a very good pundit. Like Chapman, he is not afraid to give an opinion and it is good to hear a former champion jockey prepared to call out what he considers a bad ride. I do not always agree with him but I prefer someone to give an opinion instead of an empty soundbite.
And it is quite amusing to hear Sanders give an opinion on the greyhound racing. He does not really follow it and is only doing it in jest but he does pick a few winners sometimes!
November 19, 2021 at 21:27 #1568123For gravitas read pomposity.
Let’s us not forget that he wanted exchanges outlawed as it was disgraceful that “ordinary” punters could have their cards marked about unexposed horses before he had had the opportunity to get on. Awful man, sneering down the camera lens at the great unwashed.
November 20, 2021 at 06:50 #1568153Wrong thread – ffs!
Thanks Homer!
Btw, think the above post has it about right regarding Wilson.

November 20, 2021 at 12:15 #1568231Did elements of it need any help with that endeavour?
Only joking!
Or am I?

November 21, 2021 at 07:11 #1568358I was actually only joking – any glitches have passed me by, it’s a free forum to use and I am actually enjoying visiting it more now than at any stage during my membership of it.

JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...December 4, 2021 at 16:33 #1570664Absolutely disgraceful that Lee motershead comes on itv racing and says bryony has been ostracised by other jockeys yet doesn’t comment that shows exactly why bryony had to go outside to be heard. A whole lot of jockeys behaviour is contemptible in my eyes and as someone said earlier dunne wouldn’t have dared to speak to someone like keiran fallon in that way. He’s a bully and a coward and so are the jockeys who allowed him to carry on with his disgusting behaviour. They all owe bryony an apology. Imagine if dunne had spoke to their wives/ girlfriends like that. Would the code of conduct still apply .
December 4, 2021 at 17:52 #1570688Doubt it would have applied if he’d spoken like that to Megan Nicholls either Mickey and I have no doubt that this is the reason Bridget Andrews hasn’t, apparently, had a problem with him. In racing it’s very much who you know (or, more often, who you are related to) and I’m afraid Jimmy Frost won’t count as one of the big guns.
December 6, 2021 at 08:49 #1571006Surprised at Richard Hoiles last Friday plaigirising one of Graham Goode’s best commentaries (He didn’t have that many) with the immortal line “The King is in his counting house.”
